I agree that holding a degree doesn't equate to being intelligent but it does show one is capable of reasoned thought. BTW, Spiers considers himself a 'lapsed' Rangers fan - certainly not a Hibbee!

Not surprising that the BBC fail to mention Nevin's outburst against Celtic but do highlight Spiers attack on RFC fans: Amazing that they also use pundit backing for their headline but ignore academic contribution. Really quite incredible. - Pat Nevin and Graham Spiers back hate crime bill http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-14800819

If anyone wants a blow-by-blow account of the meeting they can read my Twitter time-line @GersnetOnline Generally, an interesting meeting with some good representations. It should be clear to the committee that the legislation is not required, is unworkable and needs vast improvement before it can be made law. Moreover, the apparent willingness of some fan groups to proclaim their innocence while reserving the right to be offended at Rangers FC came across loud and clear. PS: Graham Spiers embarrassed himself which was nice.

A valid point but circulations are falling rapidly throughout the industry so it's difficult to blame one journalist for such figures. One would hope that any decent individual would see Spiers' flawed coverage for what it is but in the absence of genuine debate (or other points of view) within the forums he's present in, makes it the picture rather grainy.

He's certainly eager and it's good to know we've got fans from far flung places...

This was an interesting debate yesterday John and I'm sorry I'm coming to this thread late. I understand what you're saying but I'm afraid I disagree with it. Graham Spiers is completely aware of what he is doing with regards to the sectarianism debate. He's a graduate, a learned journalist , a son, a husband, a father and older than many of us on here. As such, his life experiences will be the same so he will know right from wrong. Now, right is embarking on a crusade to rid society of sectarianism. I applaud him on his tenacity for that and while many of his articles haven't been popular, there's also no doubt he's made some decent points over the years. Wrong, though, is conducting this crusade from only the one angle and downright refusing to discuss the issue from both ends. Granted his own personal opinions may differ from ours but when not only decency but the law suggests his opinion is flawed then that would indicate his approach lacks sincerity. Offering ignorance as a reason for this partiality is incorrect IMO. Not only that, the guy takes great delight and makes a lot of money from his imbalance. Moreover, he incites and adds to the hatred we see by constantly being deliberately obtuse when 'debating' the issue. Spiers is actually part of the problem because of his chosen behaviour - more so, given he's never offered any kind of solution to the issue he's made a career out of. Quite frankly, he should be ashamed and I'll bet his own father (as a man of the cloth) is on his behalf.

Some info on the Fleck and Hutton loan deal situation
Frankie replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
I agree with BD. The guys can't force themselves into an average team so a move away may help focus the mind. PS: They don't appear on our website so I assume the deals will go through at some point. -
Children - please keep the thread on topic and avoid the playground insults.

I agree that unofficial information about the club is somewhat saturated. It is very difficult for the layman to decide whether some items are new, old, common place, unique, good, bad or indifferent. This creates more stress than one should have as a common, garden fitba fan.

To me, this just seems an alternative to using Ticketus which was rumoured for long enough. Both strategies seem problematic to me and are, IMHO, clearly indicative of an owner who has failed to realise the investment he hoped and promised he'd get. I wonder if we'll have an AGM this year as so far there are far more questions than answers surrounding this new regime. The Emporer's New Clothes indeed.

Not being picky, it's just your comments are inconsistent. You don't think our signings are good enough for Europe (and Wallace himself struggled in that environment) yet you think the same player is much better than someone who has proven he can play well at such a level? Just doesn't make sense. Anyway thread closed as requested.
-
I think we have tried to play a bit more from the back but when under pressure (either via what is happening in the game or impatience from the home Ibrox support), we quickly resort to a more direct route. I've no issue with the long ball but too often Jelavic is isolated so we have no-one near enough to win the 2nd ball or offer support.
-
I understand it's easier said than done when it comes to transfers mate. I just think we could have been a bit quicker off the mark and benefited in Europe especially.
-
I find that statement a bit puzzling. You think Wallace is miles better than Papac yet he's a long way off being good enough for Europe despite Papac contributing very well on that front over the years. Do you think we'd have conceded the goals we did in Maribor (or indeed in the home leg) if Papac has been playing?
-
No, I'm not a huge fan of Papac (and his failure to close down crosses infuriates me as well). I also think Wallace is the ideal successor and am looking forward to seeing him improve over the coming years. As it stands though, he's still very raw and arguably not as defensively strong as what Papac is. To that end, he has a long way to go before we can be consider better than the Bosnian.
-
I'm a bit disappointed by our transfer activity but also realistic in terms of what is possible. Generally I'm comfortable enough in the squad we have but am frustrated at how slow our dealings were.
-
Fair enough analysis but not sure how you think Wallace is better than Papac 'by a distance'? Sure the lad has done OK and seems decent enough going forward but he was also found wanting for both goals in Maribor. Until he wins several trophies like Papac has done, plays regularly internationally like the Bosnian does and delivers the same kind of reliable consistency over a number of years, I'll defer my own judgement.

New feature is the Gersnet Player of the Month for August (and end of July)... Feel free to make your own choice below and we'll see what the forum's opinion is. For your consideration, you may wish to take into account the following: Main site MotM v Hearts - Steven Davis Main site MotM v Malmo (L1) - Allan McGregor Main site MotM v St Johnstone - Steven Naismith Main site MotM v Malmo (L2) - Steven Davis Main site MotM v Maribor - Dorin Goian Main site MotM v Motherwell - Steven Davis Main site MotM v Aberdeen - Allan McGregor My choice is :sd: Although he's been disappointing in a few games, he's been our best player in most of the matches so far and has taken the captain's responsibility well. I sincerely hope the likes of McKay and Bedoya will assist him creatively so we can see Davis perform well throughout the season. As ever, well done to McGregor who remains a fantastic goalie and so far Dorin Goian looks like a bargain buy at the back.

Hearts fan case in Lennon attack.... NOT PROVEN
Frankie replied to craig's topic in General Football Chat
Only one person heard the alleged sectarian insult so it was inevitable that needless addition to the assault charge was going to be difficult to prove. Ergo, if anyone is to blame for the bizarre conclusion to this case, it's the prosecution for doing what seems to be common by adding the usual unnecessary bigotry angle to an issue that it doesn't apply to. Meanwhile, this moron has essentially got off with a clear disgraceful assault (though thankfully he has already served several months in jail on remand). Bigotry is becoming hard to avoid in Scotland because we have people sensationalising what is a very small problem at every turn for their own questionable ends. Be it politicians or so-called journalists, it's a shame that society is finding it difficult to rid itself of the genuine disease because some people want to erroneously infer the problem is prevalent in almost every subject we talk about. -
I'd like to have seen us sign another striker but hopefully this will mean McCoist is forced to give Healy more of a chance. The Ulsterman isn't the best player in the world but he's done OK when we have seen small glimpses of him. Imperative now, that the manager gives him more game-time where possible as I think Jelavic, Lafferty and Naismith will all miss games over the season.

Agreed. Quite refreshing if a bit too in-depth at times.

Andy Little has gone to Port Vale on loan until January...
-
I think this has been discussed a fair amount previously. Whyte obviously feels he can improve the club via a different strategy from the previous regime - including new investment that has, so far, failed to materialise.
-
As it stands, we're still in debt. The debt was only moved from LBG to the Rangers Group (formerly Wavetower) who have, at this stage, only said they will waive the debt at some point in the future.

Rangers reject £6.5 million offer for Jelavic

Funnily enough, I think they mention £40million...
