The guy's background does appear difficult to decipher but he's certainly persuaded enough people that he's genuine so us proles will just have to be patient until the club comment further (which apparently will happen sooner rather than later). All the signals are that this deal will be going ahead. -

I don't particularly fancy McCoist as manager but he has had ~5 years experience of working 'under' Walter so if he's not ready now, then he may never be. The issue may be determined more by how successful we are this season than anything else.

I think even if Whyte wanted a new manager, then he'd keep it to himself for the time being. McCoist may well still be his preferred candidate for continuity reasons but if we don't win the league, that position may well change.

McCoist is the cheap option - simple. However, he's had 3 years now under Smith so if he's not ready for such a job next summer, he never will be.

For players under 24, other clubs have to pay compensation for their 'training/academy' costs if they buy players... I doubt it will be too much though and a tribunal will have to sit in judgement.

We were offered upwards of that sum for Boyd last January IIRC... There is serious interest in Miller and I think we could achieve a decent sum for him because of it. Apparently the lad doesn't want to move but, as usual, we can't match the wages being offered from elsewhere (particularly the Middle East) so he is considering his future. I don't want to sell him as his contribution has been invaluable over the piece but if we did have a suitable and certain replacement in mind then as is the case with Bougherra and McGregor, perhaps the bigger picture has to be appreciated. Like you say, very risky though as one of the main reasons we're doing so well is because of our squad continuity.

Most probably but it makes AJ's praise of the bank (and our relationship with them) all the more grating... In saying that, I don't blame the bank for being less than willing to fund transfers when we waste over a million on the likes of James Beattie.
