None. And like I said, if these players won't play under Smith or McCoist they won't play under a Irvine or a Davies. The man with the perm and the moustache may be the only one capable of stamping his authority but his managerial peak is arguably long gone.
-
Yep, I understand that so the management team should be - as a priority - renegotiating the bonus structure at the club as a first step to showing players constant under par displays are unacceptable. And I certainly wouldn't be amiss to dropping a senior central midfielder such as Thomson or Davis for a younger player. Thomson's lack of sharpness can be attributed to his long spell injured. Davis has no excuse other than being shuttled about a bit too often. Rothen is an experienced player yet has contributed one decent 90mins so far. Why shouldn't these players be dropped for a Fleck, Shinnie, Ness or AN Other. McCulloch has also been better than any of them in midfield so far this season despite the eagerness of some to blame him for everything wrong with the team. The management and fans should not be held to ransom by under-performing players.

That's fair enough CB but lack of quality shouldn't mean a lack of work-rate and commitment. Sure our current Rangers squad is as poor as it has been for 20+ years but that doesn't explain the inability to complete a pass, control a simple ball or take a dangerous set-piece. The odd game where this happens I can accept (no-one is perfect) but the only consistent thing about our team this season is that we're below average in every department. We can only hope we get better but unfortunately these problems have been evident now for long enough so are indicative of a struggling management/coaching set-up as well as poor quality players. Yet they still get paid thousands in win bonuses for that performance? As I look around the country at the moment as people are paid off in their thousands because of a recession, that makes me physically sick.

Club management have also been naive. They should have said nothing publicly until they knew the full story other than Bougherra hasn't been selected due to travelling problems and a lack of match preparation. Anything else just lends weight to conspiracy theories.
-
All seems a bit strange. The game against Rwanda was last Sunday - 8 days ago. Even accounting for a couple of days off after that, why did it take him until Thursday to travel back? Even taking that as fair enough, the story that he couldn't contact the club after he had his stuff nicked is nonsense. Seems to me the club are trying their best to bury the story so as not to punish him in the same way they punished McGregor and Ferguson. Next time they should send a club employee to meet Bougherra in Paris.

The biggest worrying sign for me is that of motivation and lack of commitment. If players refuse to go the extra yard for an experienced manager like Smith and a former playing legend like McCoist, then I'd hate to see them play for someone with a lesser CV. I'm happy we won on Saturday but I guess our inconsistent play this season does sum up the club as a whole at the moment. Everyone at the club should be asking themselves why consistency can't be achieved - including the support.

Mystery as Madjid Bougherra fails to return from qualifier
Frankie replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Given he was dropped this is obviously a disciplinary issue. Will he play on Tuesday or will he be given the same punishment Ferguson and McGregor - 2 week fine and suspension from first team duties? -

Well, so far we have Little and Fleck who the manager seems happy to play... Wylde and Wilson and perhaps a little behind them in their development but the latter especially may feature depending on our central defenders' fitness. Ness and Loy are less likely to get a game but have good reputations as does Shinnie. I doubt Jordan McMillan has a future at the club considering he can't get in the team ahead of Little at right back.

Takeover Rumour - Gillespie, Souness and Mahdi Al Tajir
Frankie replied to kevinthomson8's topic in Rangers Chat
Who told you...? This rumour has been posted before including the Mahdi Al Tajir part and, to be perfectly honest, I don't believe it. Feel free to pm me your source. -
Agree with Gribz... Broadfoot is a very useful squad player and will prove important over the coming months.

The Ongoing Media Challenge - Can The Assembly Force Change?
Frankie replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Pretty sure Walker has written a couple of tedious articles before - despite being mainly an English game reporter. Will see if I can find them. As the Assembly have said, he's been found out big time.- 32 replies

The Ongoing Media Challenge - Can The Assembly Force Change?

Agree with that. However in the absence of anything more radical, I'll settle for the former...- 32 replies

Article here for those interested... http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/display.var.2532425.0.0.php Martin is another hypocrite that offers nothing interesting or knowledgeable in his commentary/punditry of the game. How these blood-suckers can make a secure living I'll never know...

The Ongoing Media Challenge - Can The Assembly Force Change?
Frankie replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
So we shouldn't attempt to try and influence positive change just because it is likely to be fruitless? FWIW, I don't think you're being overly pessimistic, just realistic; as I share your doubt. However, I've seen the signs that change may be possible with the right nudges in the right places. Will that change the position of the club? Probably not. Will that change the apathy of the majority fans? Possibly not. But it is worth a go in the absence of anything else.- 32 replies

Good point but they haven't been putting their lives on the line like the troops often do... Maybe an interesting concept to approach Rangers and see if they'll set aside further dedicated seating for special cases submitted to the club? Carers, doctors, nurses, teachers etc who deserve a bit of free R&R...

It is carried easy to be carried away by the almost omnipresent negativity surrounding our club - from depressed fans rightly concerned about our future, to a media always desperate to put the boot in, to the club itself struggling with their PR. I try and avoid this by attempting to enjoy the basics. The odd exciting piece of skill during a game; the tasty victories against Celtic, the UEFA Cup run of 07/08, the charity and dignity of our support and just walking into Ibrox every other Saturday. I try my best not to take those small virtues for granted and it helps me cope with the many valid problems we read about on a day-to-day basis. I'm sure the troops attending the CL game next week could put it all into perspective for us.

An excellent gesture from the club - I'm sure all these heroes will enjoy Walter Smith's 4-5-1 against the Romanian's next week. If we don't win may I suggest they take our players on a few weeks PT at their base...

I think these cases are examples of if you can't beat them, join them unfortunately... Other national teams have been utilising players of different nationalities for long enough and while I don't necessarily agree with the concept I don't blame the SFA for looking to do the same if FIFA refuse to make their rules clearer.
