Once again on Radio Scotland in aftermatch interview....... ''I'm a supporter and have concerns forget me being a manager. If nothing changes before the end of the season, even if we win the league, the club is in serious trouble, anyone who believes otherwise is severly deluded''.

Walter Fears The Summer - Another Warning
chilledbear replied to chilledbear's topic in Rangers Chat
Reading his comments in various papers, he could actually be saying to the consortium. Stop pussyfooting around or you will have no team when you do takeover. -
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/2010/02/03/rangers-face-new-fears-over-future-as-walter-smith-is-ordered-to-slash-ibrox-wage-bill-further-86908-22015075/ WALTER Smith last night expressed fears for the future of Rangers as it emerged the club will be forced to offload more players this summer. Less than 24 hours after Robbie Keane became Celtic's eighth new arrival and the highest player in SPL history Record Sport can reveal Smith has been instructed to drastically slash the wage bill. Rangers raked in £1million and reduced their operating costs by £40,000 a week after the January departures of Pedro Mendes and Jerome Rothen. But, Smith will not be allowed to use the savings to make an enhanced contract offer to Kris Boyd, who has an £18,000-a-week deal sitting on the table. Instead the Gers boss must attempt to plot the downfall of Celtic while trimming his threadbare squad even further. Smith, who saw a third transfer window pass without any purchases, is deeply concerned about the situation and feels it will only get worse until a new buyer is found for the club. He said: "It's a bold move by Celtic and in many way they should be congratulated for doing that. Robbie Keane is an imaginative signing and one that will be a good one for them. "From our own point of view we have known the situation for a long time. It's obviously in stark contrast to what happened at Celtic. The only thing that bothers me is this is a look into the future for Rangers Football Club and that's the way it seems to be. "Unless something is done that is something that will continue to happen on a regular basis." Smith admits Celtic have raised the bar with their January recruits, however, he is backing both himself and his players to meet the challenge. He said: "With what's happened at Celtic means the lads will get a full test between now and the end of the season. "It's a challenge they will look forward to. It's a challenge I look forward to as well. "Since I came here nobody could ask any more from the group of players I have here. "They have been brilliant in their whole attitude towards playing for the club. "Guys who are out of contract are still giving 100 per cent and I was interested to read Steven Smith's article the other day about not playing. "He typifies the attitude of a lot of players in that he gets fed up not playing but he comes into training every day and there is nobody more committed. "If I ask him to play he comes in and gives 100 per cent. "That is typical of the group we have and I can't speak highly enough of them."

Taken from FF It was me who posted way back in October about the consortium and I have been confident ever since My stance on this hasn't changed - the information is coming from a positive source which has been verified by Admin I do expect the consortium to move now with a second offer pretty quickly It has been somewhat delayed by the non committal of a certain member of the consortium who I believe is now out of the picture - (Take a guess at who that is ) I also think they would be better coming clean to the support to galvanise our attention but obviously there is not a lot we can do about that, I also don't blame people for not trusting them either - thats the price you pay for playing it that way I suppose There has also been a lot said about capital and fan investment - as I understand it they have more than enough capital and the plan is for future fan investment once the club is stabilised and away from MIH which is the must at the moment I can't name the consortium but it isn't hard to guess as I have said previously I am still confident and I would be extremely disappointed if after one bid they don't follow it through If anyone has any questions I will try and answer best I can - bear in mind I want this to happen as much as you and I am only trying to give you all the best info I have

They may have better players now, than before the transfer window, but a better TEAM! You may be right, but it's a big ask, to blend all these new players in the short time that's left, and they can't afford to drop any points while they are doing this. If they have improved the team, it's surely up front, they have not improved their defence, in fact argueably they are weaker in that area. In a way this Keane signing should also benefit Rangers, if there was any chance of complacency setting in, the transfer window should have put a stop to it, and of course when we win the title it will be all the sweeter.

RANGERS have made a move to take Danish international Simon Poulsen on loan from AZ Alkmaar. SunSport can reveal Walter Smith has contacted AZ boss Dick Advocaat in a bid to sign the left winger, 25, until the end of the season. Poulsen is highly rated in the Dutch league, but he has been in and out of Advocaat's side this year. Smith hopes to get the go-ahead today from the ex-Ibrox boss. Gers also made a bold bid to take midfielder Martin Petrov on loan from Manchester City. But City boss Roberto Mancini has told the Ibrox club the Bulgarian is NOT available. West Brom ace Chris Brunt was also on Gers' radar, but the Championship outfit wanted a loan fee which scuppered any potential agreement. Gers look set to survive the transfer window without selling any of their key players, despite Sunderland's £3.5million bid for Madjid Bougherra. Meanwhile, reports in Portugal claim Rangers will pay HALF of Pedro Mendes' salary for the next 18 months. Sources claim Sporting Lisbon only agreed to shell out the £1million fee if Gers stumped up on the wages. Mendes said: "I'm glad we reached an agreement because we had a lot of conversations

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/8488667.stm Rangers manager Walter Smith has criticised the club's decision to say that they did not need to sell during the January transfer window. Confirming that Sporting Lisbon's bid for Pedro Mendes had been accepted, he spoke frankly about the wisdom, or lack of it, of such an announcement. "I didn't think it was a good statement to make at the time," said Smith. "I don't think that statement should have been made when it was made because it gives the wrong impression." Earlier this season, Smith told BBC Scotland in a post-match radio interview that the bank (Lloyds) was running the club. Rangers and Lloyds Bank quickly issued statements denying that was the case, though there can be little doubt Smith knew the effect his comments would have. While Friday's utterances were not as powerful, they were nonetheless further evidence of a gulf between what might be termed the "football people" and the "financial people" within the club. Smith went on: "Football is more complicated than that. It's not a matter of needing to sell, at times it's the player's wishes as well. "If a player wants to go, that can happen. There are always going to be transfers and they are not all going to be financially-based decisions that are going to cause a player to leave the club." Though his mood was light-hearted, his frustration at how complex the financial situation is was apparent as he was asked if money would be available to spend in light of Mendes' proposed move. "I'll need to find that out as well. It used to be we could find out a lot quicker than we can now," he added. "I would hope a little bit of money would be freed up but we will wait and see. "I won't take anyone unless it's someone I really feel can come in and make a difference for us." Asked whether he had identified any targets, Smith replied: "It's not quite as simple as that because we had to get rid of a few before we could look so it's not really been possible to do that. "It's just one of those situations that we are in. We can now at least have a look and, if it doesn't come to anything, we just carry on in the situation that we're in."

Mendes - UPDATE: Will join Sporting over next 48 hours

Dundee have signed Rangers youngster Andrew Shinnie for a second time on loan until the end of the season. The 20-year-old Aberdeen-born player made 20 appearances for Dundee last season after joining Jocky Scott's side in November 2008. Midfielder Shinnie, who has made two first-team starts for Rangers, is a former captain of the Ibrox club's Under-19 side. Shinnie has won two caps for Scotland at under-21 level, scoring once. Best thing for the lad, too many players going for the same position.

Fleck refusing contract a misunderstanding apparently...
chilledbear replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
"John wasn't fully aware his agent was negotiating a contract and the negative press was a little hard on him''. Sounds more like a breakdown in communication between agent and player, than a fault of the Club. -

It is not a great advertisement for Supporter participation in the ownership of the Club. You pay your money and unless you are in the loop, you get told only what they think you should know. We know what is happening, trust us, is not what I would want to hear if I have invested money.- 94 replies
