Whenever you vote in any election, remember that Patrick Harvie & his party wanted our Armed Forces charged under a Bill he opposed.

Interesting piece in the Sunday Times about the case for London's Independence from the rest of the UK.

 

Gives it a different sense of perspective, but I think it's becoming clearer that quite a lot of UK subjects are not too happy with the Status quo as it stands.

 

HS2 is another London-centric policy that will benefit the SE of England more than anyone.

That was always extremely unlikely.

 

Reason for this whole exercise is to stop these parades. They did it last year so we had to separate them from the Remembrance Sunday stuff and, now we've moved it, they're still offended.

 

Let's hope RFC and the MoD don't give in.

Even if the singing was offensive and I didn't hear any such at the time; it would be impossible to obtain a conviction under the OBA because you couldn't possibly demonstrate that it would "incite public disorder" with all those soldiers around. Who was going to riot, the handful of Stenhousemuir fans in the stadium?

 

That said, I was uncomfortable with some of the soldier's antics and would suggest that a more dignified parade would be in order IF the event is repeated next year.

 

How about some kind of display a la Edinburgh Festival, rather than just running wild all over the pitch?

Don't know if any Hooped Horror watched the Last Night of the Proms this year, or any before. They would probably be allmightily upset about the last few utterly "nationalistic" - some would say patriotic - songs. As opposed to the Stenhousemuir game, it was broadcasted all over the world. Didn't hear a whisper.

Funnily enough, the US conductor and the producers chose a few new songs for the final part, ahead of Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and God save the Queen. In amongst those was You never walk alone. While the Albert Hall, Hyde Park and that place in Cardiff was buzzing and singing along, the atmosphere in Belfast and Glasgow was rather subdued ...
