It's one of the few unfortunate downsides of the upcoming Ultra scene in football, but "No Pyro No Party" is doomed to failure because the authorities will eventually start hammering clubs for it and it'll force the fans to stop doing it.

The Government was fast enough out of the blocks with the Offensive Behaviour Act.

Flares need to be licensed and their sale properly restricted. They are inherently dangerous. Even more so in the hands of neds on Buckie.

If there was a will, flares could be marked so that they can be scanned at point of entry and identified at grounds - Clubs actively helping to put a stop to them.

Anyone crosses the line, hammer them hard.

But that will appear to be like too much like common sense for the powers that be.

Have you seen the bigoted Daily Record headline?

"Falkirk fury at 'mindless' Rangers fans". The whole thing is propaganda to make a whole set of people seem 'mindless'.

Firstly, it was one flare, so how do you translate that to the plural for 'fans'?

Secondly the quoted word was taken out of context as the Falkirk official was exhonourating Rangers by making the point that their is little the club can do as "some mindless people do this kind of thing" (quote is from memory and so probably paraphrased).

So a truthful headline would be "Falkirk fury at 'mindless' people who throw flares onto a pitch" and even with a bit of anti Rangers fudging should at worst have been "Falkirk fury at 'mindless' Rangers fan".

But instead they go the full Goebbels and write a headline that implies that ALL Rangers fans are considered 'mindless' by Falkirk and they are furious at Rangers fans in general.

They can argue all they like how it is meant to look but as so called jounalists, you'd assume they know what sticks in people's heads.
