Rangers defender Sebastian Faure hits back at Light Blues critics......

......and says it's not easy playing on 's**** pitches'.

FRENCH defender Sebastian Faure last night lashed out at Rangers' critics and accused Ibrox fans of being too harsh on the club.

Sebastien Faure last night blasted back at Rangers’ critics and insisted the team’s achievements have been “staggering”.

Despite romping to the League One title without suffering a defeat, Ally McCoist’s men have copped stick for their performances.

And fans raged at the players when they suffered a shock defeat to Raith Rovers in the Ramsdens Cup Final.

But French defender Faure returned fire as he insisted:

? Fans expect Gers to play like Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

? Any other club in Scotland aside from Celtic would have lost three or four games in League One by now.

? Gers have been forced to play on “s*****” pitches.

? It’s impossible to take more than two touches in the lower leagues.

Faure, who moved to Ibrox from Lyon in 2012, said: “The fans have seen the club in the top division for 140 years and because our name is Rangers they think we are still a Premier League team.

“They expect us to win every game 6-0 and play like Barcelona or Bayern Munich. But that is not possible.

“We have to play on some s***** pitches and that is not easy. Put any team from the Premiership, except maybe Celtic, into League One and they'd have lost three or four games by now.

“Our opponents want to beat us at all costs. The fans think we should just take one or two touches on the ball but that is not possible.

“What we have achieved is staggering. So it’s fair to say the fans are a bit harsh with us. But that is the way they have always been so we are used to it.”

Faure, though, relishes running out to a packed Ibrox and can’t wait to take on Celtic in an Old Firm game once Rangers get back to the big time.

The 23-year-old said: “At Ibrox you feel you’re playing an English Premier League fixture with the huge crowd. If a top French club fell so far down the league ladder they wouldn’t get so many fans.

“I’m looking forward to playing against Celtic. It would p*** me off to leave without playing an Old Firm game.

“We hope to meet them in a cup tie next season. It is a game like no other.

“For the players who will have helped the club win three promotions it will be a historic achievement. It is a huge adventure to be part of the comeback. It will leave an indelible memory.

“The club may have gone down but its aura remains intact.”

SPFL HEADS FOR MORE REVOLUTION CHAOS

Rangers defender Sebastian Faure today plunged Scots football into yet another period of uncertainty when he called for radical changes at the heart of the game. The Frenchman hit out at the way the game is run and called for:

Only pitches which receive enough sunlight each year to grow rich, lush surfaces to be given licences to host games, down to 4th tier level;

Fans who can't tell the difference between a mince Rangers team and Bayern Munich to be banned from stadia;

Teams which don't lose league games to ride down Edmiston Drive on Asses, while fans bestrew their path with rose petals and sing Hosannas;

Opposition teams to be banned from sending out eleven players, as this hampers top players' ability to take more than one touch.

In a hard hitting expose of the amateur ethos which he believes permeates the game in this country, Faure, with his extensive knowledge of Scotland's lower leagues, has presented fans with a dossier which they can only ignore at their peril!

all i want is an honest assessment from someone. We dont play well as a unit. we dont function well as a team. we have next to no tactical ability or awareness. We can all see it. We have all said it. It would make me feel better if our manager came out and acknowledged our problems on the park. But he doesnt. He tells us something different from what is staring us in the face.

Dont know if its arrogance, stubbornness or just lack of ability but if our manager cant actually see what is happening on the park then there is very little chance he will change anything. McCoist actually believes hes doing a good job.

I take it that's an exclusive, Andy.

Problem about Ibrox though is that we need to use the higher powered lights to make the grass grow lush and they might fall victim to the review!

Opposition teams to be banned from sending out eleven players,

is a fair shout though we often play better with 10 ourselves.

It's often more like 8 when Daly, Shiels and Aird are playing. There's a few more that are good for hiding for 90 mins too!

all i want is an honest assessment from someone. ...

Played - 33

Won - 31

Drawn - 2

Goals scored - 100

Goals conceeded - 16

Points - 5 shy of 100

Never in my time as a Bluenose (some 30odd years now, though only roughly 22 with regular live footie) has a team played consistently well throughout a season. Individal quality more often than not still took care of results. These days we don't have the quality of days gone by, a fact well known and debated and lamented. Yet, for the time being, nothing can be done about it. Never before had a Rangers team to play two seasons of essentially cup football non-stop in the doldrums of the Scottish leagues - well known for state-of-the-art arenas. So should we judge our players on the games and by the performances that they managed to lose or play "bad" in? Or did not live up to standards you (not me) would expect of the - still lamentable - quality they have? Next season will be the ultimate test for these players and McCoist's managerial skills (if he gets a new contract). At this moment and time, Faure is right in expecting some credit for what he and his teammates have achieved this season. And not many are willing to give them even that, which indeed shows you a certain lack of objectivity.
