Rangers target Niko Kranjcar's father says the Ibrox club are still looking to seal a deal

THE former Spurs star held talks with Rangers boss Mark Warburton when he flew to the USA last month.

NIKO KRANJCAR’S father Zlatko - the former Croatia manager - has revealed his son is still in negotiations with Rangers for a move to Ibrox.

The former Spurs star held talks with Rangers boss Mark Warburton when he flew to the USA last month.

Kranjcar plays for New York Cosmos, but is currently sidelined through injury and is back home in Zagreb doing his coaching badges with the Croatian FA.

It was thought the move was scuppered because Kranjcar’s other half, actress Zrinka Cvitesic, does not want to move to Scotland. The couple moved to the States earlier this year as Cvitesic pursued a career on Broadway while Kranjcar signed from Dynamo Kiev for New York Cosmos.

However, his father Zlatko, who managed Croatia. Montenegro, Dinamo Zagreb and a host of Middle East teams, reckons his son wants to come back and play in Europe.

And he’s insisted a move to Ibrox is still on the agenda for the 31-year-old.

Kranjcar senior said: “Niko is doing his UEFA coaching badges, but his playing ambition is not dead, on the contrary actually.

His contract with New York is about to run out and he’s injured right now anyway.

“But he will be back and will play on.

“He could continue with Cosmos, who want to keep him or go to Rangers, who he is still talking to.

He wants to return to Europe and I think that would be good for him because he can play at a top level for at least another two years.

Rangers have already strengthened their squad with the addition of four midfielders - Joey Barton, Accrington Stanley pair Josh Windass and Matt Crooks and former Liverpool youngster Jordan Rossiter.

But the addition of the 81-times capped playmaker would still represent a major coup for the newly-promoted Championship winners.

Previous rumours said the deal is dead because his wife wanted to stay in NY. Well, I wouldn't argue with her ...

"Rangers target Niko Kranjcar's father ........"

Who does he play for? Will he not be a bit old?

Well, you can blame the schools. Certain schools. Or people leaving them early. Not least if you see some articles and the editing of late ...
