Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo says Joleon Lescott DID pass Rangers medical

ASTON VILLA boss Roberto Di Matteo says Joleon Lescott's Rangers move collapsed due to personal terms - NOT because of a failed medical.

Reports have claimed Lescott's switch to the Glasgow giants was axed due to issues with his fitness.

But Di Matteo, who has been left frustrated that he now has an unsettled player still at the club, insists that's not true.

He said: "He passed a medical and everything.

"They didn't agree personal terms so the move has fallen through and he is back with us now.

"It's a headache I've been dealing with from day one, there are a number of players like that.

"They have been involved in the group and then I have made a decision on ones who expressed wishes to leave. I will work with the ones who want to be here.

"Lescott leaving depends on what solution he will find, one which suits the club and the player."

The English Championship club's chairman also echoed the Italian's words on social media.

Dr Tony Xia said: "No problem with medical check."

Joe Garner has joined Rangers from Preston on a three-year contract, according to Sky sources.

Mark Warburton has completed a deal for the striker after missing out on former England centre-half Joleon Lescott earlier on Friday.

Personal terms could not be agreed with Lescott, according to Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo, but Garner becomes the Scottish club's 10th summer signing after ending his three-year spell at Preston.

The 28-year-old scored 57 goals for North End and counts Carlisle, Nottingham Forest and Watford among his other former clubs.

Really? What makes you think that?

Maybe this could suggest that to be a possible scenario?

Nobody I suspect will come out and say the guy has failed a medical as that would put a move to any other suitor in jeopardy. We need to remember it has been reported that he failed a medical with Rangers, that doesn't mean to say his fitness would not be adequate for another possible club that may fancy him? Its not like taking a driving test, what one club deem to be ok will be different to another club for example.

Its all speculation tbh as only a few know what really happened? One way or another it would seem he isn't coming to us. Senderos was given a return ticket by the club when he went away for a few days, hopefully he will come in and do a good job, no reason why he shouldn't be able to cut it in the SPFL.
