Breaking: Rangers serve notice on retail agreement with immediate effect

Recommended Posts

he's got financial interests in Oldham as well. Wonder what will happen there. The rules also say he can't have financial interests in other clubs " without prior consent of the Football League". Has this consent ever been given before and if so, what were the circumstances ?

I really don't think this has anything to do with the football league. I am guessing this has been in the pipe line for some time.

We have always thought that the deal that was signed was not signed with the companies interest. I believe the board now have proof to back that up.

If he challenges us in court it shows without a doubt he has a financial interest in us. I think it's got everything to do with Newcastle's relegation...but time will tell........

Everyone knows that - but that wouldn't allow us to just tear up a valid contract. The football league rules are not greater than the law. Ashley is not scared of the football league or the SFA. But yes you are right I guess time will tell.

But I can say this I am one happy bear (sitting in Santorini having a beer or two to celebrate)

Rangers in Sports Direct kit battle as club withdraws badge rights

Grant Russell

18 May 2016

Rangers Retail Limited no longer hold the rights to manufacture branded goods.

Rangers have sparked a fresh battle with Sports Direct after effectively terminating the sportswear firm's right to sell goods featuring the club's badges.

The Ibrox side have terminated an intellectual property agreement with Rangers Retail Limited, a joint venture company between the club and Mike Ashley's business.

Under the terms of the deal, which Rangers are tied to for a further seven years as they serve a notice period, Sports Direct receive the lion's share of revenue generated through retail sales of club-branded goods.

The move, in theory, will continue to allow Sports Direct to exclusively sell goods manufactured by Rangers Retail Limited.

But with Rangers now the sole holders of the copyright, the products won't be able to carry club trademarks.

In a statement, the club said: "Rangers Football Club Limited has today served notice on Rangers Retail Limited terminating the IP Licence and Rights Agreement with that company with immediate effect.

"The club now needs to speak to its commercial partners to agree the next steps flowing from the termination and will make no further comment on this matter whilst discussions are ongoing.

"The club will endeavour to communicate further with its supporters and customers for Rangers kit and other Rangers products as soon as it is in a position to do so."

Records at the Intellectual Property Office already show all trademarks have been returned to the club.

Accounts for the last year of trading by Rangers Retail Limited are currently overdue at Companies House. Financial figures for the year ending April 30, 2015 were due on January 31 this year.

Sports Direct were unavailable for comment when contacted by STV.

2 MIKE ASHLEY turned troll in his ongoing war with Rangers this afternoon when his Sports Direct firm splashed the new CELTIC kit across the top of their website's homepage.

The company, whose controversial retail deal with Rangers is to be torn-up by the Ibrox club, were also offering cut price Gers strips with the tag 'Must Go'.

The Celtic promotion was accompanied by the words 'Like No Other'. "

That would almost constitute an admission from Ashley that there is little he can do about it :D

His shareholders/stakeholders must be loving this. Watching as the company is destroying any hope of future clubs/companies/business entertaining any involvement with them while he's involved, every bit of news with them involved is fat mike torching any reputation they had.

As expected Twatter is currently full of contract lawyers, mostly with 1888 in their names who predict financial disaster for Rangers and King when General Mike reaches his bunker.

I'm loving it. :rfcbouncy:
