Lee Wallace pulls out of the Scotland squad

Recommended Posts

Rangers captain Lee Wallace is among three players to have pulled out of the Scotland squad. Derby County striker Chris Martin and Aston Villa right-back Alan Hutton have also withdrawn from the friendlies against Italy and France. The Scottish Football Association announced the withdrawals on Twitter but gave no other details of why the players are out. Wallace was one of several Rangers players caught up in violent scenes after his side’s William Hill Scottish Cup defeat by Hibernian on Saturday when fans invaded the park. Ibrox manager Mark Warburton had hinted he would withdraw Wallace and Barrie McKay if Rangers won the final and qualified for Europe. Goalkeepers Allan McGregor and Scott Bain pulled out with back injuries last week, while Hull players Andy Robertson, Robert Snodgrass and Shaun Maloney, plus Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan, are unavailable for the Italy game in Malta on Sunday as they play in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final the previous day. Swansea left-back Stephen Kingsley, Derby midfielder Craig Bryson and goalkeepers Scott Fox and Jack Hamilton were called up last week

Lifted from FF:

LEE WALLACE has pulled out Scotland boss Gordon Strachan's squad - and headed to Belfast with Rangers instead.

The left-back was left out of the national side by Strachan for Sunday's World Cup qualifier in Malta.

But as Celtic pair Leigh Griffiths and Kieran Tierney withdrew from the squad through injury, Wallace was called up alongside Hearts striker Tony Watt for the clash.

However, Wallace has been snapped aboard the Rangers flight to Belfast as they get set to take on Linfield in a testimonial tomorrow. The picture was shared on Rangers' official Snapchat account.

The Premiership club say he has pulled out of the squad due to a muscle strain and won't play in the friendly at Windsor Park tomorrow lunchtime, and it is believed he will receive treatment over in Northern Ireland.

The injury leaves question marks over his inclusion for next Saturday's trip to Celtic Park in the first derby of the season.

Now folk, sit tight:

Scotsman

Rangers’ Lee Wallace out of Scotland squad for Malta match

Rangers left-back Lee Wallace is out of Scotland’s match against Malta on Sunday.

The SFA announced the news via an 11-letter Tweet.

It read: “Scotland update. Out: Lee Wallace. No further additions to the squad.”

No explanation was given for the defender’s withdrawal.

Wallace was only called up on Tuesday following the withdrawal of Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney.

Hull City’s Andrew Robertson is now the only specialised left-back in the squad for the World Cup qualifier at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium.

Late call-up Lee Wallace pulls out of Scotland squad through injury

The left back will not travel to Malta for the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Lee Wallace has withdrawn from the Scotland squad to face Malta through injury and has instead travelled with Rangers ahead of a friendly against Linfield.

The Rangers captain, who was drafted into Gordon Strachan's squad on Tuesday, was excused by the Scotland medical team on Friday due to a muscle injury.

Within hours Wallace boarded a flight with his club teammates to Northern Ireland, where he will watch them take on Linfield in a testimonial match on Saturday.

STV understands the left back will receive treatment from club doctors on the trip.

Wallace, who has eight caps, has previously been overlooked by Strachan. Although he was called up for the friendly double header at the start of the summer, which he withdrew from through injury, his last Scotland appearance came in a friendly against USA in 2013.

It leaves Andy Robertson as the remaining left back in Gordon Strachan's pool of players for the trip to Ta' Qali. No additional players have been added to the squad.

I hope he won't play in Linfield.
