Time to right a few wrongs - Rangers v Celtic

Recommended Posts

Thing is the only way to rebuild is with money and Europe even if only the Europa league is the most lucrative avenue out there. We're never going to catch them dodging Europe.

It's not about dodging Europe. But if you're talking about rebuilding, and about money, then perhaps not take a punt on O'Halloran for 500k and Garner for 1.6m, and wages for Barton and Krancjar whose Rangers careers are over before they started.

Fix the defence, get a goal-scorer, and Europe will take care of itself.

Doesn't need to be years. Depends on investment and the willingness of our Board to fund such playing staff investment.

I said it when they were in talks to sign him but I really wish we had attempted to gazzump Celtic and sign Dembele.

They're offering a chance at Euro football while at the moment we're not which is another reason aside from money we need it.

You have to say, Dembele looks the real deal and they appear to have played a blinder there. They'll no doubt top up their millions from him after a year or two as well.

I agree with Craig. The addition of a couple of strong, proven centre-backs and a goal-scorer would put a fair bit of shine on this Rangers team.

The sad thing is that we spent 20k a week on Barton (I liked the signing at the time to be fair) when we already had Halliday in that position and, even though he was injured, we were being told that Crooks could play in there too. I know Halliday prefers to play further forward but I actually think defensive holding mid, pulling the strings, is his best position - doesn't have the pace for me to play attacking mid.

That being the case, we didn't really need to sign Barton at 20k a week and would have been better served getting a better standard of striker or CB in. To be fair to MW he was trying, certainly in the CB position, but kept getting knocked back by his preferred choices.

We are certainly competitive, but it really cant be denied that they have a better standard of player - they spent more on one player than we spent on our whole team in pre-season. In fact they spent more on their manager than we spent on our whole team this pre-season.

But we shouldn't be kidded.... we are behind them, there can be no doubt - but those additions of a couple CB's and a striker would make us a stronger unit, team and squad.

The unfortunate thing for us is that we cant really afford any mistakes in our recruitment as we don't have the money for mistakes.

AN 11-year-old was rushed to hospital before the Old Firm match after he was struck on the head with a bottle outside Hampden.

The young Rangers fan is believed to have been walking along Aikenhead Road with his dad when he was he was injured, around 15 minutes before the League Cup semi-final kicked off.

He was treated by a police medic at the scene and had his head bandaged.

The boy was then taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 1400 hours on Sunday, October 23, an 11-year-old boy sustained a head injury after being hit by a bottle whilst walking along Aitkenhead Road, Mount Florida.

“He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

“Details of the seriousness of any injury is not know at this time but it is not thought to be serious.

An eyewitness said police riot vans and mounted officers responded when the alarm was raised.

The area is traditionally used by Celtic fans to enter and exit the national stadium.

In February 2015 schoolboy Kieran Duffy was bottled by a thug as he travelled to Hampden in a minibus.

The Rangers fan lost two teeth and was lucky not to be blinded when the vehicle was attacked.

Kieran was with dad Robert, 39, and twin brother, Declan, when the vehicle was surrounded by yobs as it was stopped in traffic on Cathcart Road.

They rocked the vehicle and forced open an emergency door before one thug launched a bottle inside.

It missed Declan by inches and bounced off dad Robert’s elbow before hitting Kieran’s face.

Despite a £1000 reward being offered by a local businessman the suspect remains at large.

Celtic fans condemned the attacker and helped raise more than £4000 for Kieran.

Six weeks ago ugly scenes marred the first Scottish Premiership clash between the Glasgow giants for four years .

The game, which Celtic won 5-1 at their home ground, made headlines for all the wrong reasons after Hoops supporters hanged sex doll effigies of Rangers fans and displayed an offensive banner during the game.

And after the match fans in the away end of the ground caused thousands of pounds worth of damage by trashing the toilets at Parkhead.

Offensive sectarian chants from both sets of fans included IRA songs and The Billy Boys.

Surprised they got him to be honest. He will be gone at the end of the season

We wouldn't make any money unless we progressed and then not enough to compensate for having no chance in the league. We are far from challenging on one front. Opening up another would mean even more league points dropped. What kind of money are we talking about for a qualifier in Gibraltar and another in Kazaghsthan or whatever the early July jaunts would take us? We'd probably be out of pocket!
