Statement from King

Recommended Posts

No he was fully aware but refused to accept it. On wednesday they verbally resigned and that resignation was accepted by the board. Thursday the agent tried to cancel the deal/resignation and wanted the club to pay £700k if they still wanted the three to leave. On thursday the board had another meeting to decide what to do. They decided to uphold the original resignation made on (edit mistake) wednesday. The agent then tried to say it is not valid as not in writing it was then pointed out that verbal resignation in Scottish law has the same standing as written. The agent said they would fight this and did not accept the decision. MW and co where informed by the club that they wereno longer employees. MW refused to accept this and tried to strong arm the board. He turned up for fridays press conference dressed in his Rangers gear as if butter wouldnt melt in his mouth. Unfortunately by the time SR found out what was happening the press where already in place and it was decided wrongly or rightly to let it play out. MW was then again informed he was to leave upon which he did after some argument.

It is believed by the board that it all came down to the fact NF had offered them the position at their club but after being informed of rumours regarding the three from brentford NF recinded the offer leaving the agent to try and get the pay off from us back on the table

That version sounds plausible to me.

So, over some timescale the board wanted rid of the management team that they employed but couldn't afford to sack them? The management team knew this but had no option other than to continue working for Rangers FC until they found another club.

Eventually the agent representing the management team found them another club, the board rejoiced with a big sigh of relief only for the deal to fall through. That's when the shit hit the fan.

There is only one side to blame here for that massive clusterfuck! THE BOARD!

Here's hoping their next appointment has a happy ending.

It is difficulty to get your head around exactly what happened here and it is all more than a bit unsavoury. Neither party come out of it with much credit. The bottom line for me is that I am not unhappy about the manager leaving. Better now than at the end of a failed season which is what we were in line for. The board are now under increasing pressure to deliver, after all he was their appointment.

The Board is made up of Rangers people who are all high end business-men who wouldn't be there if they weren't. So they are no dolts.

One may turn and warp it as one likes, at the end of the day, the management team gave their agent the OK to talk to another club. All fair and square, but you have to live with the consequences. It doesn't matter when the club desided to accept the resignations.

Now we need to look forward, which is strange for those players who signed because of MW's pedigree with them. But that is the stark reality. If we mess this afternoon up, it will be a hell of a week and we're once again A Feast for the Crows. The reason is quite unexpected though. You'd hope the senior players do their job.

Trublu I think the deal was that they would be prepared to carry on working (i.e. cancel their resignation so long as any club that came in from them would not need to pay compensation- in other words MW DW could negotiate golden hellos when they got a new job). The resolution will boil down to the technical detail on how this was communicated, what constitutes an offer and acceptance etc. The 3 amigos have come out of this as money grabbing bastards who couldn't commit to the club. Particularly disappointed with DW and certainly MW has taken the pysh out of those of us who wanted to give him time.

A side aspect of this which demonstrates we do not manage the club effectively is that given the board assumed they had resigned then how the hell did they have access to auchenhowie and were allowed to do a press conference.Given the nature of their supposed departure desks should have been cleared, security should have been advised, and they should have been clearly advised that keep away. Either we were incompetent at MD level. The day to day running of the club needs massive improvement.

I think the major question that needs answered and the main flaw in the Club's argument is that if the agent met SR on Monday and the Board met and agreed the deal on Tuesday, why was the so called "immediate termination" delayed until approx. 9.00pm on Friday night? This makes it appear as if the Club's action was contingent on the agent going back to renegotiate, which shouldn't have been the case.

Nobody is coming out of this looking good. We need the man at the top present each day and accountable for everything that goes on. That's not a dig at king just my feelings on the matter. Said it a few months back we desperately need a DoF who is onsite all day every day.

There is a CEO, in situ, although how much leeway he has (is given) to manage is perhaps moot.

Quite whether a DoF would be the person to deal with the current imbroglio is likewise debatable, although it seems a matter to be more the province of others.

Agree BH. The club are not obliged to openly write back and accept resignation in any particular timescale. They are also not obliged to accept a change of mind by MW. The only constraint on them is they cannot legally refuse a resignation. We also don't know the details of his contract (for example it can be stipulated any resignation must be in writing). However letting him continue his duties without clear communication that his employment was terminated or that there was an agreed end date over the period from Tuesday to 9pm on Friday has put the club in a more akward position than necessary.

its more i want someone with a football mentality and experience dedicated to that role. Let SR deal with the company, i dont have any confidence he has the desired experience in things like purchasing players etc. He might have done freebies at motherwell but has he, before us ,ever actually dealt with a signing fee negotiation for example?
