Veteran striker close to penning contract extension and the 37-year-old's future could even be sealed ahead of weekend clash with Celtic.

Kenny Miller is set to commit his future to Rangers after being offered a contract for next season by new boss Pedro Caixinha.

Talks began in earnest with the former Scotland striker last week after he impressed his Portuguese gaffer with his leadership skills on and off the field.

Miller, 37, is out of contract at the end of the season and had been targeted by first club Hibs, but is now set to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Light Blues.

Caixinha is committed to a radical overhaul of his first team squad in the summer and sees the influence of the former Celtic and Wolves frontman as key for his future plans.

Miller has long spoken of his desire to end his career with Rangers and has rejected the notion of combining playing and

He has been arguably the best Rangers player this season, despite his advancing years, and Caixinha has recognised his worth to his ambitions going forward.

Miller could even sign a new deal before the weekend’s Premiership clash with Celtic - and Caixinha’s desire to have him on board underlines the influence the veteran still holds on the training pitch, as well as the sharpest competitive level.

No brainer really. He isn't finished and can offer us another year.

Does it potentially mean that a few of the other strikers aren't in Pedro's plans? If we could get a million back for Garner Id be happy, hopefully Warburton wants him at Forest. But I think Dodoo is worth keeping even if we convert him to a winger.

He deserves another season, puts most of our players we have to shame with his work ethic and determination alone. Great influence to have at our club.

Yes we also need a more clinical striker on board but I am happy to have him for another season at least :)

As Frankie says, ideally we don't want to be relying on him, but he's been good for us this season both on and off the pitch; he is deserving of a new contract.

Hopefully we get someone in and he doesn't feature much...
