Omissions from the Euro Squad...

Recommended Posts

Surprising that Wright is in ahead of Kelly and Rudden before Hardie. Also McCrorie has been involved in all of the bounce matches, but Houston is named in the squad? Can only imagine that all three are about to go out on loan. If so, hope that it is at Premier level so that we can see what they can do at a higher level.

For the other omission, no real surprises other than Dodoo, but as was said above, we don't know how he performs in training or his attitude. I remember seeing him making his debut for Leicester versus Bury in the English League Cup and thought at the time that they had a real diamond on their hands. Was really pleased when he signed for us, but in all honesty, it does appear that his hat trick debut was, if not a fluke, a 1 in a 1000 performance.

Obviously, it would be that Hardie and/or Dodoo have picked up a knock of something. The amount of young players is interesting, but could be due to the demand of having a certain number of Scottish-trained folk in there.

Interestingly enough, while Dodoo as a left winger is out, Beerman is put into the midfielder bracket. He sure is rather direct, aggressive and likes to have a shot.

Remember the manager has a certain quota to hit....it may be that some players HAD to be included (to the detriment of others) in order to make that quota.....

Houston, Mayo & Rudden have yet to make a 1st team appearance, yet get included in the squad - to achieve the required quota of homegrown players.

Is that Mayo Naise

Isn't it the case that a different squad can be submitted for the second qualifying round? And I also think that yet another squad can be submitted prior to the group stage if we were to make it.

Yes, there are deadlines ahead of each round and you can add a wildcard during each phase also.

So with that in mind if we were actually to make that group stage the chances are we may see significant signings right up the end of this window taking advantage of the guaranteed income that group stage would bring. I think it's into September before a squad for the group stage has to be submitted.

I feel sorry for Halliday. He lost form last season but he was hardly the only one, I do wonder how he'd perform with better defence behind him and a better attack in front of him. I still think he's a better player than he gets credit for. Hey ho.

In fairness, PC has had a good amount of time to assess each player...he obviously doesn't think the Halliday has the required skills to progress with Pc's vision.

.................... by MW certainly but with his limited budget, vision & nouse, yes Halliday was fine in the Championship.

In which position would you see Halliday fitting into Caixinha's regime among our current squad ? (attacking MF, LB, Winger)
