Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

Yes.

I don't think it's a prerequisite to success. Rodgers had no experience of the 'Scottish game', and neither did Tommy Wright, Steve Clarke or Steve Robinson.

C'mon, Stevie Clark played for St Mirren and Scotland is actually Scottish, Tommy Wright was an assistant at St Johnstone before getting the job, likewise Steve Robinson was assistant manager at Motherwell under Baraclough. Rodgers I'll give you.

I'd rather have just about anybody than McLeish. That guy sent me to sleep on a weekly basis when last in charge.

I predict difficulty in selling season tickets if he gets the gig.

Same here. I remember that spell when we didn't win in 11 games or thereabout. One of those was a 1-1 draw at Livvy and it's the most bored I have ever been at a match.

McLeish worked wonders with the team Advocaat left him. As soon as he started bringing his own players in it all went tits up.

We don't have De Boers and the like in the team these days, like we did when McLeish won the treble.

Fair enough, but I took it as managerial experience in the Scottish game.

My point still stands.

Or Turkish going by his name. There's a big Greek population in Australia though.

Aren't Australia one of the strongest nations in Asian football? Has he really done remarkable things? Japan, S. Korea and Australia are the perennial qualifiers from Asia, no? Since Oz joined the Asian FA they've not failed to qualify for the World Cup.

I'd never heard of the guy before today.

Born in Greece.

Yes.

Yes.

Okay... :D

Seriously--I've been aware of him for a few years but I can't recall how or why. It was his tactical approach that drew me in, along with his record of success -- I'm not sure how appropriate his A-League success is as it's not the greatest of quality; but winning several league titles has to count for something. I think it was the way they played in the 2014 World Cup, rather than their results -- defeats against Spain, Chile and Netherlands in a tough group.

Have we had any clue whether he has put forward an application for our job?

Interesting to see that Mr. Potter does not make the top slots amongst the bookies ...

As much as I like the idea of Potter, I think the board would see it as too much of a risk.... Personally, I think he should at least be a contender, but, looking at some of the names mentioned (all rumours I know), I don't think a risky hire is what the board/DoF is looking for.....

This isn't a dig at anyone in particular but it doesn't half dishearten you coming on this forum just now and seeing that the thread of this title hasn't been changed to "Mr ......... .......... appointed Rangers manager!

It is a bit disheartening, but everyone is saying that on one hand they don't want the appointment rushed and proper research/due diligence carried out, but on the other hand they want someone in place immediately (or quickly)

From what I've ready, the application window only closed on Friday. Why they kept it open for 3 weeks, I don't know, but I'm sure there will be a reason behind it.

We have to believe there is a process, and it's being followed. Hopefully at the end of that process we will get a manager that can be successful in the job.
