[FT] Rangers 2 (Wilson 56; Morelos 76) - 0 Motherwell

Recommended Posts

We do have some peculiar people with even more peculiar opinions on the loose in Scotland these days. Take Ryan Bowman. Instead of shutting up or indeed showing at least a modicum of dignity and apologizing to Cardoso, he heats up the atmosphere for tonight with strange comments and challenges. Hope he snaps and Beaton can flip a few cards. Though I would expect that McCrorie and Jack will be first in the book.

Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso's reaction to nose break was OTT and he won't get an apology from me says Ryan Bowman

Motherwell striker Bowman is set to face Cardoso tonight for the first time since they clashed in the Betfred Cup semi final.

Ryan Bowman won’t seek out Fabio Cardoso today to apologise for breaking his nose – as he accused the Rangers defender of overreacting to their previous encounter.

The Motherwell striker is bracing himself for a hot reception when he steps out at Ibrox today, as the lingering bad blood from October’s League Cup semi-final threatens to boil over again.

Bowman was branded a thug in the wake of that 2-0 victory for Well at Hampden after badly injuring Cardoso with his elbow as the pair clashed in an aerial challenge. The fallout even saw Motherwell compared to WWE wrestlers.

But Bowman, who admits he was hurt by the condemnation, insists he won’t let that get to him today. He said: “Their reaction after that game is up to them. Cardoso was all over Instagram with his nose.

“It’s a physical sport, you’re going to get knocks. He’s a centre-half, he’s not going to go through the game and not get touched.

“I’ve not spoken to him. This would be the first time I’ll see him but I won’t seek him out before. I’ll treat it as a normal game.

“There’s no point going back to it and thinking about it again. You have to move on from it.”

Bowman knows he will face the full fury of a Rangers support who have not forgotten the events of that semi-final.

He added: “Every player gets stick and maybe I’m going to get a little bit more. You need to just play your game.

“It’s the same at Celtic because of that Kieran Tierney challenge last season. The stuff I got was a culture shock at first. It couldn’t happen against two bigger teams.

“I was getting messages on Twitter saying I should have been sent off and people calling me a thug. You have to try and mute it as best you can.

“There were a couple of dodgy ones but if you react to them it makes it bigger.

“It maybe affects you a little bit before the game because you know you’re going to get a little bit of stick. But when you’re on the pitch you just get on with it.

“There is a lot of pressure now. If the referees are going to look at that more now as soon as I go up with my elbows I’ll get punished for it.

“If you keep on thinking about it, it will put you off your game.

“It made a difference to my performance in the next game after the semi, at Dundee. I’ve gone up and won a header for the same thing but it’s still in your mind.

“ But now it’s forgotten about. We’re now a few games on so you forget about it and I don’t let it affect me.”

The fact that this technically limited 'footballer' ( a talentless thug in more accurate parlance) can earn a living in the top flight of Scottish football illustrates rather neatly why our national game is going nowhere other than backwards, at Club and International level.

What I don't understand is why was there not a full programme yesterday when everyone was free from work and the games could be played in the afternoon as in England. Another stupid decision by the SPFL in my eyes.

I think it may be down to police and stewarding costs ,double time on Boxing Day normal time on 27th saving clubs finances, smaller crowds probably levels out, typical SFA stupidity.

Seems like last weekend's yellow pushed Windass over the line. Regarding tonight, someone wished him luck and he replied:

Joshua Windass Verifified Account @WindassJnr

Suspended mate . ...

That will shake a few things up, maybe Murty will send Morelos to the leftish side and play Herrera through the middle?

Better still, keep them occupied in their own half ...

Foderingham

McCrorie - Alves - Wilson / Cardoso

Holt - Jack

Candeias - Kranjcar - John

Herrera - Morelos

There was the rumour he got himself booked so he would miss Motherwell and be available for the OF game. I think that gives him far too much credit for his level of intelligence personally!

As for the team line-up, please Murty just play an attacking line up that doesnt have 7 defenders in it, has some creativity in a central area, and some support for our striker.

Hows about;

Wes

Tav Alves McCrorie John

Candieas Pena Holt (a winger, either the boy from Man City or whoever is next in line in the youth side unless I have forgotten someone!)

Morelos Hardie

Motherwell, with 1 point out of the last 12, are a pretty average bottom 6 side who are in poor form. Lets go at them with all guns blazing and get some revenge for the thuggery at Hampden with some good attacking, fast-paced, quick-passing, high-pressing, football.

Caveat - With Beaton in charge I am guessing we will have to be 3 goals better than them to get a draw! If we go out knowing we are getting nothing, then we shouldnt be surprised when he starts his cheating, and our team talk should most certainly involve not breathing anywhere near a Well player in or around the box, hence giving Beaton the chance to give himself a late Xmas pressie by getting his cards oot. Anyone red-carded tonight misses Saturday, so Morelos better not put a tackle in at all tonight or he is getting it!
