Agreed, but our chance to do that was after our illegally enforced demise and when we were working our way back. We've gone about it "arse over tit" and left ourselves boxed in with very few avenues of escape from a dire predicament.

Can a high profile 'face' help with sourcing investment? That may remain to be seen, but it surely wouldn't hinder such an exercise. 

But just assembling a higher calibre squad, with more money, doesn't necessarily bring success. He needs to be able to manage and coach them into playing in a successful way. 

 

I'm sure players were desperate to play under Maradona too, but he was sh*te as a manager.

There was no chance given the priorities of those in charge at the time.

 

The appointment of Warburton and general approach appeared to be on the right track, only to be derailed further down the line.

 

Then it was scrambling around, waiting on the eventual knockback from Ross Wilson and a hurried bout of "institutional failure".

 

Now, in the absence of a glowing list of potential candidates, it appears to be 'stick to strategy' but go for 'stardust' and not a simple 'laptop' (eg.Cathro type).

Attracting better players and keeping your best, is a start.

Maybe it's attempting to short circuit things, but if the Board feels it needs a high profile coach/coaching team, and it can't afford to approach/poach the biggest names, then surely it runs its collective finger down a list to the point where profile and price coincide.

Of course it's a risk, but, given what I assume is  the salary, etc. constraint, and the absolute lack of attractiveness of Scottish fitba' (another soapy mouthwash beckons) does it settle for a supposedly safe, middle of the road appointment?  Like Mcinnes? 

 

It does seem odd that the Club has gone from kale and potatoes to scouse, which makes me hope that some method may have emerged from the madness.

Hard to tell in internet days and any story with Gerard's name is going to be picked up and spread even if only emanating from  Scottish Gutter Press to begin with.  So, it's "everywhere" by now, as you can see by looking at the links listed on the site below

Rangers have held talks with Steven Gerrard over the possibility of becoming the club's next manager.

Ibrox director of football Mark Allen is leading the search for the next boss and Gerrard is in the frame to replace Graeme Murty.

It's understood a number of candidates have expressed an interest in the post.

The former Liverpool and England captain, who retired as a player in 2016, was appointed manager of Liverpool's under 18s team last summer.

It's understood Allen is speaking to a number of candidates to take over the Ibrox hot seat, with Gerrard's name expected to be on a shortlist.
