Rangers go to battle with football authorities

Recommended Posts

Thanks for posting these links Ian.  I've read them and it just shows how corrupt many of these people are.  It will be very interesting to see how committed they are to the SPFL/SFA board positions when their dirty washing is reviewed and hung out in front of everyone.  This is the sort of thing that was easy to suppress in the past before social media.  Now though, there are millions of media outlets and they can't suppress them all.  I wonder how interested certain authorities will be on some of these matters.  Could be very interesting!!!

SFA chief Ian Maxwell responds to Rangers’ criticism following Gary Hughes saga and says: ‘My door is always open’

Ibrox chairman Dave King has been on the attack since it emerged SFA director Hughes referred to Gers fans as 'the great unwashed' in a 2006 interview.

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell has defended the independence of the governing body following yet more criticism from Rangers.

Ibrox chairman Dave King has been on the attack since comments made by SFA director Gary Hughes in 2006 in which he referred to Gers fans as the “great unwashed” resurfaced last week.

Hughes has now decided to step down from his position.

But Rangers have demanded assurances that Hughes was not party to actions which “could have impacted negatively” the Ibrox side during his three-year tenure.

Maxwell said: “I’ve not seen any sign of anybody (working for the SFA) being anything other than wholly independent. “It’s hugely important that we are seen as being independent. “We’re a governing body and part of our function is to govern the game.

“To do that properly there has to be real independence and I’ve not seen any sign of anything other than that in my time on the board and it’s important that continues.

“My door is always open and I’ll always be here to speak to any club about any concerns they have.”

Maxwell insists Hughes’ decision not to put himself forward for re-election at the AGM was his alone, and denied pressuring the former retail and healthcare chief into effectively resigning.

And he urged clubs with grievances to go directly to him rather than sling mud in public.

He said: “Ultimately, it was Gary’s decision. “He thought things through and said to the board he wasn’t going to put himself forward for re-election and the board accepted that.

“We didn’t really get into the whys and the wherefores. It was a fairly straightforward conversation once he put forward his position. “I’ve seen the statement but I don’t think we’ve had anything official from Rangers yet.

“I have had a couple of calls with (Rangers managing director) Stewart Robertson over the piece and that’s fine. “I’m here to answer the phone and he’s there to do the same when I need to contact him about anything.

“It’s important that we have that relationship with every club. My door is absolutely always open and I’ll always be here to speak to any club about any concerns they have.

“But in terms of the process, we will review that as a board. However, I don’t see the need for any real change. It’s just about making sure we get the right people.”

May I be the first to thank Ian Maxwell for saying the square root of zero!

You might say that he said S.F.A. about the S.F.A.

Mustn't forget a big shout out to the Scottish Sun for bringing us a report on a man saying nothing.  I usually need to go to The Onion for this sort of thing.

Basically saying ''Nothing to see here, more along now'' I don't think Dave King is for turning. In that case let us get along to Hampden with our briefs and let them know what exactly what we want to happen to the Rangers haters in high office, the time for action is now.

Open doors don't equate with investigations into what is and has been going on.

Exactly...by putting it out to the media, it gives less opportunity for SFA/SPFL to gloss over or ignore it.
