In doing so he raises questions not only of his competence to be Convenor of the Cross Party Group on Combatting SectarIanism but also of his fitness for public office at any level. We do not believe that Mr Dornan is a fit and proper person to act as convener of that group and we will now write to his colleagues to request his removal. It is incomprehensible that Mr Dornan was able to take up this position in the first place given his selective approach to sectarian issues - including an incident where he posed in front of the flag of a proscribed terrorist organisation. We will also contact Rangers to make them aware of this incident and to urge them to be extremely cautious over Mr Dornan’s publicity seeking, public announcement expressing his wish to meet with them.

Rangers and Club 1872 should always engage with any individual or group seeking to genuinely address issues around unacceptable behaviour. We firmly believe that Mr Dornan does not fall into that bracket.

Now that would contain a good bit of wording for a petition.

Agreed but there is another way. If 72 are absolutely certain on the facts, as I’m sure they are, they can write to a reputable newspaper if they can fnd one (Scotsman, Herald of several decades back) drawing the editor’s attention to Dornan’s Parliamentary Group creation and its ostensible purpose     and contrast that with his conduct as set out in the statement. They don’t even have to call him a liar. “Failure to state accurately” or similar lawyer’s weasel phrase would do.

 

Complain also to the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee of the Scottish Parliament.

As for the SP the contortions of the Committee might be valuable as negative publicity. Also a chance for Conservatives and respectable Labour to stick their heads above the parapet.

In what way have I misrepresented the facts? They talk about the issue being the ‘sensationalising’ of Sectarianism as the big issue and that’s a clear misrepresentation of the problem. Club 1872 abuse me regularly on their website so this doesn’t surprise me at all.

Hollyrood public standards is the correct place with solid evidence and political sponsor.
