The Winter 2019/20 Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

Recommended Posts

I was quite surprised about the idea that Jones might leave so soon. I thought his early season form was good and I was looking forward to him coming back.

Gerrard has made it quite clear how he operates though so we should be able to make sense of it. If a player shows a poor attitude then he goes (see Lafferty and Windass). If he wants to move a player on then he will bring in an alternative to block the path to the team (see King and Docherty).

These facts, combined with the recall of Jake Hastie, make it clear. Gerrard, and the director of football, want to move Jones on while he can still get a transfer fee. Then take that money and get a creative midfielder in to provide more options for the remainder of the season.

If Barker moves on then that will help too. It has always been clear that he was signed in case we didn't progress in Europe and couldn't buy Kent.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses but I think Helander might have been more useful the other day as he does tend to use the ball better.

In saying that it wasn't always the case Katic or Goldson had options with both having to resort to longer balls.  Those can work with Morelos in the team but not as much with Defoe, as clever as he is with his back to defenders.

The other day wasn't down to Katic or Goldson.  Even if his distribution had been better the midfield 3 spewed it up all day.

Agree with that. I’m all for praise of Katic as long as it’s not accompanied with comments about Helander who has been an excellent signing.

Helander has had his poor moments too - think it was against Accies where he struggled all game long.  Don't get me wrong, I like Helander - I just think Katic is better - all about opinions I guess.

Helamder has the experience of playing in Italy but he’s a s slow as week in the jail, watching him turn is like watching an oil tanker turn. Katic for me, also think Edmundson has something in the little ive seen him.
