Norwich and Rangers are keeping tabs on Schalke goalkeeper Martin Fraisl, with the Austrian attracting interest from clubs across Europe as he enters the final few months of his current deal

Norwich City and Scottish champions Rangers are monitoring Schalke goalkeeper Martin Fraisl.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe who are looking out for an experienced keeper as a free agent.

Austrian Fraisl has kept five clean sheets in the 14 appearances he has made this season for Schalke who are fifth in Bundesliga Two and pushing for a return to the German top flight after an upturn in form.

Fraisl only joined last summer from Ado Den Haag but signed a one-year deal so is able to talk to foreign sides now ahead of a summer move.

Norwich are fighting to stay in the top flight under Dean Smith and have Tim Krul, Angus Gunn and 37-year-old Michael McGovern competing for their goalkeeping slots which will be re-evaluated in the summer.

Rangers will also assess their options with current No 1 Allan McGregor now 40.

Fraisl has 15 Eredivisie appearances to his name but is yet to feature in the top flight of German football – or any of the other four major European leagues – as it stands.

Checked the German websites and they say - rather predictanly - that "reports from Britain say" that there is interest.

Haven`t seen the lad play, so no idea what he is like, though from what I read he only now had a good season at Schalke and was almost throwing the gloves into a corner last summer for good.

It does seem from that interview that NP finds himself in exactly the same situation he was in at Ibrox. For Tavernier now read Coleman.

I must admit I had no idea the first choice right back at Everton was also the captain. Patterson on the other hand should have known this and picked to go elsewhere. Looks like a bad move for him, and could have repercussions for his International prospects and career.
