ATALANTA manager Gian Piero Gasperini is set to sanction Sam Lammers’ £3million transfer to Rangers.

SunSport revealed the Ibrox club have stepped up their pursuit of the Dutch striker.

Veteran boss Gasperini has extended his own deal and is now ready to sell Lammers.

The Serie A side had put transfer business on hold while they held talks with the 65-year-old boss.

Gasperini has now agreed to continue his seven-year Atalanta stint but sees no future for Lammers.

The 26-year-old striker was signed for £8m in 2020 — and has since had three loans.

He was farmed out to Eintracht Frankfurt, Empoli and Sampdoria.

The 6ft 3in striker has been identified by Michael Beale as a key summer addition.

And Rangers have opened talks as they look to get a deal over the line soon.

Beale has already snapped up free agents Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling, and is chasing Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers and LA FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes.

The Ibrox boss is also an admirer of Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo, who spent last season on loan at Coventry City and would cost around £2.5m.

The Panzo interest comes as Ben Davies attracts attention from the English Championship.

Beale has also hinted he would be open to selling Glen Kamara and it’s understood there is renewed French interest in the Finland star.

Last I seen we had a bid knocked back for Dessers now we agreed a fee with Lammers wonder if it’s one or the other.

dessers chat has went quiet.

think lammers will play wider.

Panzo was with Beale at chelsea same as sterling.

I think Lammers fits if we're continuing with the 4-3-1-2.

We need a pressing forward, which is why we've been playing Matondo, who is not a striker but can use his pace to do a similar job as a pressing forward.

I also think Lammers will get goals at our level, but we still need another forward that can be the main goal threat.

Do we ever look at players in the junior leagues these days or do we consider ourselves above that

As in Pollok and Yoker, teams like that?
I doubt it, the days of Junior (few of them are Junior anymore since league reconstruction) clubs developing players is largely gone. Most players come through at senior sides and 'drop down' to that level if it doesn't work out for them further up. To be honest there's little difference in quality in those playing in the West and East Of Scotland League and the Lowland League and Divisions 1 and 2. Player regularly move between them.

Aaahh I don't know then, haven't seen anything concrete that he'll be a free transfer. If he is then it does change the perspective on it rightly or wrongly.

Actually, it looks like TM got entangled with his countless Italian loans. He's indeed with Atalanta, signed for them in 2020 for € 8m from Eindhoven, so probably a 4-year deal or the like.
