It's been said that when Kenny doesn't have time to think about the shot he's about to hit on goal he's got more chance of scoring it. Don't know if that's true or not, but there may well be some truth in it. If he's not the brightest spark (stereotypical thick as shit footballer maybe?) then it stands to reason that he's not the greatest thinker. That's certainly appeared to be the case many a time I've watched him play & the shock of Boruc spilling it straight to his feet on Sunday was no exception. How many touches did he actually take there before realising/remembering what he was meant to do with the ball? I know I'm being a bit harsh, but I can't help it. I've watched KM play often enough to know that I didn't want him coming back to Ibrox because I thought we should be looking for a better quality of player. Well, he's here now & 2 OF goals doesn't prove anything imo.

His movement for his first goal may have been good but his finish was much less than sweet. Don't get me wrong it was a technically difficult finish but the connection wasn't sweet.

 

To be honest, I think that's splitting hairs a bit and very harsh. He kept it down, got it on target and hit it hard. Technically, that's a pretty good execution.

 

You ask a top golfer and they'll tell you they rarely hit the ball perfectly sweet. However, when they don't it still turns out to be a pretty reasonable shot. Golf is not a game of perfect and neither is football. Just ask Super Ally.

I completely agree - but to suggest it was a sweet strike is giving KM a HUGE benefit of the doubt !

I think the first touch was a reaction from surprise where he just gathered the ball. Unfortunately it then got stuck under his feet and to me he had the presence of mind to take another touch to bring it out rather than just trying to sclaff it into the net. He also gave himself much more room and a far bigger target, meaning McManus had no chance on saving it on the line.

 

It took an age but when you look at the replays, he kept calm and didn't bottle it.

 

I'd have probably tried to hit it first time, then sclaffed it wide while falling on my arse.

 

Would any other player have been so negatively judged on two goals against Celtic? I doubt it. Ehiogu wasn't a popular player but even he didn't get derided for his "toe-poke".

Fair enough. I've said my piece on Miller now anyway. I do want him to score goals if he's gonna be getting a game.

I don't think it is splitting hairs - it wasn't a sweet strike. Sorry but my version of a sweet strike looks like it may be different to yours.

 

I am not saying that it wasnt a good execution. And I did say that technically it was difficult and technically he dealt with it well, obviously - but I can't in all honesty see that it was a sweet strike of the ball.

I think it was a fine strike, it was coming to him quickly and he managed to hit it downwards which is a nightmare for keepers.

The questions was "Has Miller won over the fans?" Obviously, those who had already been won over are now even more secure in their position. They have now moved on to discuss how well they think he played in one game, albeit an important one. But their views surely count for little in such a debate anyway.

 

Since those who didn't want him back fell into two camps - those who didn't want soiled goods and those who just didn't rate him - these would appear to be the defining factors in any rehabilitation.

 

I certainly consider him to be damaged goods. He played for Celtic. I'm a Rangers supporter and I don't welcome those who have played for our rival. It's an unreconstructed attitude but it's what I feel and I'm inclined to justify it to no one. That is a point of view that will not change, no matter he should scored a thousand goals.

 

I also don't see much to rate him as a player. He's a striker and his goals ratio is pitiful, wherever he has played. That is a fact that bestrides his entire playing career and, as such, simply isn't open to question. He scored two goals against Celtic on Sunday and I was glad of them but that changed nothing more than the result in that particular game. He remains a low scoring forward with a dreadful first touch and mediocre distribution. His one discernible facet is the much-vaunted willingness to run all day and chase lost causes, a feature that, while admirable in itself, ranks fairly low in the traits of great strikers through the years. He adds energy but little else.

 

So no, once the dust has settled I see little to change my mind that we could have signed a far better striker for the money we spent on Miller and Lafferty.

 

There seems to be a tendency to jump on wagons where Miller is concerned, perhaps even circling those wagons at the same time. I have a notion it has become fashionable to display personal reasonableness by seeking to accommodate Miller. The new touchy feely inclusive New Rangers. Which is fair enough for those who feel the need. personally I'll always see him in those green and white hoops and he'd have to be a whole lot better player to overcome the emotions that raises for me - even then he struggle to gain acceptance.

I can't believe people are arguing about his goals, all the matters is he got 2over on them, that's good enough for me. If it hit the back of his head causing him to fall over and it stumbled by borat it still wouldn't take anything away from the game.

Whilst my feelings on Miller are not as strong as MF's, I didn't want him to sign because I believe him to be a crap footballer, I think his post is well written and although many may not share his feelings, well reasoned.
