If it really is 40 people then SDM needs to spend MORE TIME pointing that fact out. 40 people from, say, 40,000 people every other week is 0.01% Sorry, but SDM should therefore be spending more time defending that VAST MAJORITY.

Succinct, to the point and correct. I shake my head at time s with some of the "improvements" the games administrators have thrown upon us ! -
What Now for the Sectarian Songbook of Celtic Fans?
craig replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Mind if I merge this with the thread in Rangers chat S_A - I think it is relevant to the debate. It is a starting step but one which should be much more visible in SCOTLAND and the Scottish media. Sorry but it is our own media (and the game's administrators) which are tarring us as bigots but letting Celtic fans away with chants which are every bit as sickening (actually more so IMO).- 37 replies

Rangers manager Walter Smith has revealed Sasa Papac is set to sign a new deal at Ibrox later this week. Papac has been in talks with Gers officials for the last few months over a two-year extension to his contract. The Bosnian is set to meet Rangers chief executive Martin Bain after Tuesday's reaaranged SPL clash with Dundee United and Smith is confident the deal will be concluded quickly. "I would hope it would be finalised this week," Smith told the Daily Record. "Sasa is going to meet Martin and hopefully it will be sorted out as he has been doing well. "He came here as a centre-half but has adapted to his new role at left-back and shown he is a really good footballer. He deserves great credit." Must say I am glad to see him signing an extension. Has played very well since making the LB position his own - to the extent that it would be easy to think that LB is his natural position.

What Now for the Sectarian Songbook of Celtic Fans?

I think that all Rangers fans want is equality in treatment Ricky - and as a level-headed Celtic fan you must surely see that this is not happening and, indeed, is being perpetuated not just by the media but also by the powers that be at Parkhead. Instead of John Reid trying to convince his own fans that they should stop the glorification of the IRA ("Up the RA" chanting is indeed glorifying it) he decided it would be appropriate to castigate Rangers fans for verses in a song which have NEVER been sung by the Rangers support. So instead of doing what he is paid to do (look after his own club, its interests and its administration etc) he took a broadside at Rangers - a typical deflect and deny stance. And, as has been said by a few of us on here - the statement he made actually contradicted itself by stating that the famine was not sectarian - but then said that anyone singing the famine song WAS sectarian - a typical politician speaking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. Simply put - John Reid would be better off trying to eradicate the problems at Celtic Park before worrying about Rangers. I strongly believe that Rangers and its fans have made far greater strides in eradicating its issues than Celtic have. But the agenda-driven media wont ever accept that.- 37 replies

Re Boyd's 2nd goal Pete, I agree with you but those are the rules laid out in front of the teams. And it HAS happened against us and significantly so - against Villareal a couple of seasons ago. -
It was somewhat amusing listening to Booth justify why Celtic's 2nd goal should have stood........ That said it didn't impact on the result. The penalty incident was a very similar instance to when they got a penalty against us at Mechanodome last season and Broadfoot got sent off. The swan dive from McDonald to ensure he lands in the box. In both instances it wasnt a penalty. Yesterday it WAS a red card though as it was a clear socring opportunity. Just how inept were Hearts ?
-
Disagree Pete, Gow is only on loan at Rangers so it is actually Rangers news. Having the thread here is fine though IMO. Good to see him scoring and getting a full game.
-
You make a good point Gav. The police only enforce the law - but that then begs the question that someone within the judicial ranks should come out and state the position and also justify it.
-
I actually do believe you Gav, just couldn't pass up the chance of a wind-up (poor though it was)

Oh aye..... says the big, bad policeman..... wouldyou have said the same a year ago ? :fish:

No worries my man. Nah, no need to merge - mine was match preview - this one deserves its own debate, if there even is one !

Has he not just scored the once or twice ? Either way...... so has BOYD !
-
Too funny.... us bean counters always grasping on flawed math ! Yep, I think you are right BD. We can only get 1 out of 3 teams left which I think is a 2/1 chance.
-
I resemble that remark. You could be talking about me Gribz - but I don't eat kebabs.....
-
I hope you both get arrested :fish: Seriously, I actually DO hope someone gets arrested. That way someone can set precedent in the law courts on how STUPID this whole issue is and prove, once and for all, that there is NO CRIME in singing it. It is quite simple. The song is NOT sectarian and it is NOT racist.

IMO Broadfoot is showing better form at RB than Whittaker ever has. We paid 2 mill for Whittaker and therefore selling Broadfoot for 2 mill doesn't make too much sense to me as we breakeven on fees but end up with a player who doesn't look as comfortable in the position. Not having a go at Whittaker by any stretch although from what I saw of Whittaker whilst at Hibs (admittedly not a great deal) he was nowhere near Hutton-esque. At RB I felt his positioning was quite poor ! I would prefer to see Broadfoot stay too. He has proven to be quite capable at the position even if it isnt his natural position. However, if we could get a better player for the money received then sure, why not ? That said, would we not be better keeping KB to give him a run as natural partner to Bougherra at CB when Weir retires ?

He can only do it against the teams he is put up against. So, in that vein, if Smith doesn't play him against the better sides then I fail to see just how Boyd can convince him. His overall play has been much better of late, he scores goals, is starting to link up play - he is showing he deserves at least a chance to show he can do it against the better teams. But he also needs an extended run against those said teams rather then one game where, if he doesnt score, the consensus once again is that he can only do it against the wee teams.
-
I am not sure even a loan move is a good idea. He is the ONLY natural left back at the club with 1st team experience. If we loan him out and Sasa gets injured then we have to revert to playing Whittaker or Broadfoot over there. Makes little sense to me unless the loan allows us to recall him at anytime.

Very similar in substance to what I emailed to the SFA this morning.
-
I just emailed the SFA complaining about the inequality of their administration. Futile effort but it bugs the shit out of me having to listen to the "righteous" thinking we are the only culprits (and even in that regard I dont think that the famine song is sectarian, as sung by Rangers fans). A farce of the highest order.

Fleck is out injured for 6 weeks with strained mediate ligaments. Whilst the CIS isn't as important as the SC and league I think that the players will want to retain it so I can see a strong team being put out - it isn't as if Hamilton are a walkover. That said I would give Lafferty a run up front alongside either Miller or Boyd. Edu and Davis should work too but we also need to keep some of the experienced players who could turn a game on the bench - wouldn't mind seeing Bazza and Mendes on the bench.

Walter's ill-informed outburst riles the decent, web-savvy fan
craig replied to calscot's topic in Rangers Chat
Exactly Ricky. Sadly even some of the level-headed support are happy to jump on the issue as it is a way to "get one over" on Rangers - what they dont realise is it opens the likelihood of tit-for-tat and that helps neither team and neither support !- 51 replies
