  1. What bothers me is that we haven't made much headway in the transfer market in January whilst Celtic have. Our transfer dealings have seen us replace Ehiogu with Dailly (neither should be first teamers) and seen us replace Carroll with Alexander (Alexander will push McGregor harder but will probably still be back-up, we potentially will be keeping a player who does not want to be here, we have lost Thomson for 4-6 weeks with no replacement and we have sold our prized asset and best player. They have signed an unknown Jap (big deal....) and Samaras (they did need more players up front but who knows what kind of player they will get), they look like getting Robson today (decent player, scores goals and will strengthen their midfield) and also look like getting rid of Jarosik which is a decent move in itself but it is a swap dal so MIGHT be getting a decent player in return. They have also signed a very promising (if you believe the media) young striker from Middlesborough. Anyone else underwhelmed by what we have been doing in January ? Seems like we have rested on our laurels and/or think we have a good enough team and squad to get us to the end of the season. I don't buy that... just look at Celtic, they at least seem to be strengthening (on the face of it) whilst, if anything, we have weakened. I am very underwhelmed with what we have done in the transfer window.
  2. 1. Do we really need another striker ? 2. Would we really spend almost 7 mill on a striker ? Why is it we are going for more strikers when the defence and our midfield is what needs more personnel ?
  3. Dont let the door hit your arse on the way out !
  4. Only started 10 games for Derby, they shipped him on loan to QPR and he played more games there apparently.
  5. Apparently Motherwell want to sign him.
  6. I hope we have 1. A sell-on clause 2. First option when he next moves (although we probably won't be able to afford it) !
  7. Aye Gribz... come on get with the program ya lazy fooker
  8. 4 yr contract. Do you really ? With the way the Club treated him ? We have seen many players leave the club where we have said "dont let the door hit your arse on the way out" but usually because they have been shite. In Hutton's case they may as well have kicked his arse on the way out, the way they wanted him out as the cash was "too good to refuse". Even though it was great money, the lad wanted to stay and shouldn't, in my opinion, have been forced out. I think he would have a harder time of it coming back given the way he has been treated. Having said that, I would love for him to get homesick in the next 2 years or so and we get him back for a cut-down price - we can but dream huh ?
  9. My younger cousin was on the books at Gers but the coach he had was changed to a guy that he didn't get along with. Ended up arguing with him and told him to screw it. Was with Ross County on loan at one point, didnt want to stay up there in the boonies so left. Went to Ayr United but couldn't be bothered (female got in the way) and now plays at Cumnock Jnrs (and the whole family are Talbot fans... for anyone that knows the rivalry....)
  10. Same applied with Gary Holt. He played in the same team as me at Killie boys club and he was decent but only average. Had a good engine but that was about it. Ended up being capped ten times.
  11. No worries man, I know what you mean. The comment I made was in earnest and I agree with you for the same reasons. WS seems to contradict himself very very frequently these days. Some examples are 1. Backing Cousin for "only scoring goals and sometimes not doing anything else... we just need to put up with that" at the same time as not providing such comforting words to Boyd 2. "We will only be looking to sign players who will strengthen our starting XI... we have a squad big enough to cope with losing a couple of players". Now... he may NOT be contradicting himself here if he expects to use Dailly.... but does Dailly honestly strengthen the starting XI ? No sir.
  12. I played in the same team as Gary Holt...... hahaha - I played county football when a kid - played in goal too Frankie..... my career was blighted at age 13 though when I realised I would never be taller than 5ft 6 !
  13. Oh well..... I think we have debated the Hutton transfer to death. Good luck to him and I hope he is a HUGE success at Spurs (despite me being a gooner) and has a long and rewarding career. Sad to see one of, if not our best, players go but it is a lot of money ! I wonder if we put a clause in the contract getting us a % of any future transfer fee.
  14. Bit of a dark horse Frankie ! What happened ?
  15. You calling me stupid ?
  16. As has been said, he will only be a squad filler. Perish the thought that we ever needed to utilise him. But with Hutton away, Thomson injured, Ehiogu gone, Faye gone (or has he ?) then we do need some cover and seems to me WS is taking Dailly to cover CB as well as DM - one player to cover multiple positions rather than getting 2 players in at 10k a week he can pay Dailly 15k and save 5k. Not saying it is right or wrong but this, to me, seems to be what WS is trying to achieve
  17. Too fucking right Gav !! The lad is being pushed to go to a team which he obviously doesnt really want to go to and not at this stage of his career. He has a young family and likes being settled just now. But SDM is basiclly telling him to fuck off so the club can reap the cash rewards - I understand the desire for the cash rewards but how about taking into account what the player wants and needs ?
  18. Papac has done well at LB. With smith on the way back we would have a very decent player at LB (Smith) with adequate cover in Papac. Whittaker plays RB...... what back up do we have there ? NONE. I am sure we wont agree but I think that RB will be more of a problem than LB.
  19. I can see it now.... Dailly playing RB for us...... looks like the title is on its way back home.... This is very much a depressing day.
  20. I think it is almost a stick on that his attitude wil stink if the transfer doesn't go through. Wasn't like he was showing a great attitude anyway. Boyd will be frustrated...... I think though that you hit the nail on the head br1ndy - we keep a player that doesnt want to be here and lose one who did. The main winners in this are SDM's bank account (that one is for the cynics.....) and Celtic IMO.
  21. I would prefer the 3 mill for Cousin than the 8 mill for Hutton - we have strikers to cover for Cousin but not enough cover in defence. 3 mill would be a good piece of business for Cousin - oh well..... hopefully if he has to stay he can keep the same mentality and work-rate (note sarcasm....)
  22. Agreed. The financial aspects are obvious for all to see. It is the manner in which this deal was done that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Is this really what Rangers want to be ? A club that pushes a guy out the door who doesn't want to go (and who is probably our best player) ? If any of this were common knowledge that he was pushed out the door then what kind of reputational impact would that have on the club for future signings ? Probably none, but you never know.
  23. Interesting to note that WS is saying that the decision was Hutton's..... would be interesting to know what Hutton says about it. Seems though that the official line out of Ibrox is that he wasn't forced to go but decided upon himself..... maybe the Club "prompting" Hutton to move was the reason he will leave (why stay somewhere you are not wanted). This transfer, much as though I understand the business and financial aspects, leaves a very sour taste in the mouth as to what is happening at the club.
  24. Again, a fair point. Makes you wonder sometimes...
  25. Fair point Frankie. Which puts even more emphasis on the RST to highlight the inherent problems at our once great club !
