  1. The thing is that some of us (well me) voted over a month ago before Edu had his run in the team....
  2. So refs are being forced to pull out of charity dinners due to Celtic fans. Utter scum! This was discussed briefly on Radio Clyde tonight with some hilarity. Peter Martin (McGuire) thinks he was guilty of bad timing. So there you have it. You can't be charitable at the end of a season.
  3. Stuart Dougal has moved to explain why he has pulled out of a charity dinner on Friday night. Some Celtic supporters have expressed unhappiness on unofficial fan sites at the former referee appearing at the event in a traditional Rangers area. The Sportsman's Dinner is set to take place days after Dougal - who retired from the game last week - admitted he was wrong to show a red card to Madjid Bougherra during last week's 2-1 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox. The Rangers defender is now likely to be given the green light to play in Sunday's crucial title decider at Tannadice when the incident is reviewed by the SFA's Video Review Panel on Friday. Speaking in a statement, Dougal said: "Like most senior and ex-referees, I get asked to speak at charity events and dinners across Scotland. "Several months ago I was asked to appear at a Sportsman's Dinner alongside Craig Brown and Bert Allan. "Although the event was at a Masonic Hall, I was assured by the organisers that it was not a Masonic event and that the aim of the night was to raise money for charity. "It is with some deep regret that I have informed the organisers that I will now not be able to take part. "I do not want to give any fuel to people who live their lives in the belief that everything revolves around conspiracy theories, nor do I want my appearance to detract from the aims of the event - which is to raise money for charity. "I wish the organisers every success for the night and have a simple message to the people who feel the need to always look for bias and conspiracy. "It is 2009 and I thought that we had moved away from this type of thing." http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1861_5339544,00.html
  4. Well done to all the winners. Thanks, Jon, for organising.
  5. Going back to the Ferguson to West Brom, Darryl king sugested that he could well go there as he would prefer to be playing for a team at the top of a table rather than playing for one fighting relegation. He also suggested that Fergie himself may have doubts as to whether he could hack it in the Premiership now.
  6. Gordon Smith should STFU, after his performance with the Fergie and McGregor fiasco. He proved that he's got no idea how to handle difficult situations.
  7. Denominational leanings that Spiers himself has highlighted on every possible occasion, together with Keevins etc. They then pretend to be shocked when it is highlighted by Celtic fans. The truth is that journalists are more to blame than the fans for the whole McCurry situation. McCurry has reffed plenty of OF games over the years. It appeared to me that he went out of his way not to favour Rangers because of his background. However Celtic minded journalists just couldn't hold back and went for him with the issue of the affair (no matter how deserved) and then the ludicrous highlighting of the fact that he said Jesus was simply the best, and used that for a song. All the best for the future, Michael.
  8. Great news.
  9. Oh, ah Huistra. I heard a story that after training he used to run up and down the concourse of the Govan stand practicing his ball skills. He did it in private because he didn't want the other players to find out as they would slag him for not going to the pub/bookies etc. If the story is true then it could be that attitude that's landed him this job. Good on him.
  10. Yes, because we need cover at left back..... That's how it works, isn't it Walter?
  11. I'm looking for a couple for me and my boy if anyone's got any spare. I'd even be willing to leave him at home if there's only one.
  12. Ian, I don't think that the fans come into it. Fergie got a great reception on Saturday, and a vast majority are still behind him. If they can sign Miller, then offering Fergie a new contract is fairly straightforward. Craig, firstly, would Fergie agree to a drop in wages of around two thirds? He's still got his contract for next season, I believe, so I don't see any way that he would agree to rip it up and take a lot lower wage. Secondly, I get the feeling that Walter wants rid of him for non-financial reasons. Perhaps he has come round to thinking that he's a bad influence, either off the park or on it?
  13. He's the PM and the buck stops with him on this matter.
  14. 23 August 2004 Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon will escape disciplinary action despite accusations he overreacted to get Juanjo sent off at Pittodrie. Inverness Caledonian Thistle forward Barry Wilson claimed that Lennon had cheated during Celtic's 3-1 victory. But Scottish FA head of refereeing and discipline Drew Herbertson said: "We will not be taking any further action. "The matter will not be taken forward and will not be the subject of a referral to the review panel." There had been suggestions that video footage could have used to take action against Lennon that would see him ruled out of Sunday's first Old Firm derby of the season against Rangers. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill had told BBC Scotland that Lennon claimed he was headbutted by Inverness winger Juanjo before the Spaniard was sent-off. "I genuinely didn't see it, but it looks like it was the fourth official who saw the incident," said O'Neill. "I can only go by what Neil has said and he told me that the guy came in late and then he was headbutted. "I haven't seen the pictures yet. But, if people are guilty, they have to face the consequences." Inverness are to appeal against Juanjo's red card. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/3588932.stm
  15. I can't see him going for either Fergie or Boyd. Boyd is too slow for the premiership and Fergie's best years are behind him. There is better value for money out there and I would be surprised if McLeish showed a lack of imagination by plundering Rangers.
  16. Fergie to West brom seems a possibility. I don't think it's his choice to move. The club want him off the wage bill.
  17. I thought that was last season, but I stand corrected. That incident was the lowest of the low, but it's open season given he's not an RC.
  18. I don't believe he has done Celtic this season either. It's interesting how these articles alwas stress his profession, as if to remind everyone of his religion.
  19. "Mike McCurry's career as a top-class referee is over. The 44-year-old from Glasgow has been omitted by the Scottish Football Association from the list of senior officials for next season. McCurry, a Baptist associate pastor, has been an often controversial figure in Scottish football. Craig Levein's comments about McCurry's performance in a match against Rangers in May led to a £5,000 fine for the Dundee United manager. Levein accused McCurry, who later admitted to mistakes during the game, of "bottling" big decisions during Rangers' 3-1 victory. The referee, whose private life also became the focus of newspaper news pages, has gone public in support of the introduction of video technology to assist decision making. Meanwhile, Dougie McDonald will referee Sunday's crucial Scottish Premier League fixture between Dundee United and Rangers. A win for the Ibrox club at Tannadice would mean they will be champions for the first time in four years." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/8056219.stm I'm sure that the timing of this announcement is deliberate.
  20. Or Loovens for his assault on Edu.....
  21. There were 2 or 3 performances with great football under Le Guen and that was it. I don't think the ratio of great football games is any worse under Smith. It should also be remembered that when he left, there was less of a points difference between us and 11th place than us and first place!
  22. Could be worse, I guess.
  23. The final decision lies with the ref. He should not be passing the buck back to the linesman. He had to make the decision on the day based on what the linesman told him, but with the evidence available, he should be taking over. Disgraceful.
  24. It WAS the Billy Boys: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/article1937649.ece I've seen the video and it was TBB and it was this that he was criticised for singing. What is wrong with the Sash anyway? Why would he have to resign because of that? I remember all the reporting at the time and he was criticised for the "Up to our..." line, and that is why he resigned. This is just an attempt by the BBC to criminalise the Sash.
