  1. Gavin Rae was captain for about 3 games when PLG went to war with his players and thrust the unfortunate Rae into the spotlight to make a point that he could pick his worst player and make him captain if he wanted to. It is unfair to Rae to include him as a Rangers captain as he may have led the team out for a couple of games, but everyone and their dog knew he wasnt the Rangers captain. I thought I was quite clear, but to re-emphasise I am talking about the worst football player ever to captain us. Not anything about leadership, professionalism, etc. Is he the worst player to have been official Club Captain (for more than 3 games!!). In my book Jig has no positive attributes to his game other than being a good guy to have around. Passing - poor, tackling - poor, heading - poor when challenged, positional sense - poor, pace - non-existent, finishing - poor unless tap-ins. I fail to see what he brings to any side he has ever played in. I will say that given he has had a long and successful career on paper means he must have kept himself fit and easy for a manager to like him, and must fit into a squad environment well. Walter Smith was on record as saying he only played Jig at left midfield in our 2007-08 season so he could aim for someone with height in our midfield at our goal kicks to ensure we did not immediately give the ball away in open play. I must say that tactic alone kept me awake at nights that season and we all despaired at this tactic that usually seen us give away possession as a throw in from every kick-out as Jig could never win the header aimed at him and keep the ball in play. Sums up Walter tactical awareness I suppose more than a pop at Jig who was happy to play anywhere he could get a game and do what his manager told him.
  2. I usually discount Ricksen as Captain as he was only acting Captain as I recall and not the official club captain (cant remember who was) but in reality Ferguson coming back in the January captained the side to our league triumph, alongside Marvin's inspirational leadership and spirit. It actually spoiled the day (but only a tiny bit) at Helicopter Sunday when we allowed Ricksen to raise our league trophy. I wasn't talking about a better Captain (as in leader of men), I meant worst footballer to captain us. Of course it is a healthy debate, but as I said in my original post, I really dont like debates that involve a race to the bottom.
  3. :yay::yay::yay: I actually did LOL and nearly spat out my soup here when I read the Gary Caldwell line. Great retort SBS.
  4. And a better performance than any of them have managed too. It was a no-brainier to take off the talented but work-shy Vuckic at HT after Jig forced McCall into a change. When the sleeves need rolled up he is not the man, when we need to create chances and put in good entertaining performances against much poorer teams, there would be a place for him in the current setup. Not worth £5Kpw plus a 500K promotion bonus but that is not the lads fault.
  5. I thought it looked around the 40K mark from my seat. The number most of the guys I was talking to at HT ranged from high 30's to low 40's so can't argue with the official number.
  6. A good shout but I'm not buying that BlueSolace, Paterson while not the greatest was not as bad a player as Jig. But it is a good shout and as close as anyone has got to date!! I respect your opinion if you believe CP was worse than Jig as I didn't see a lot of CP, but I have seen far too much of Jig!
  7. Ratings are pretty much spot on this week, though I personally thought Murdoch was like a Stuart McCall in his prime in the engine room today and was my MOTM by a fraction ahead of Law. Makes you sick that we had to watch Law and Black stifle the life out of our midfield for months when we had this lad and McLeod that could have made a great CM partnership. Hopefully Murdoch is well looked after and he can maintain his focus and not get carried away with the rave reviews he is picking up, as he could nail down a CM slot for years if he can replicate the kind of performance we saw yesterday. Finally, 3 for Jig, seriously?!!!!!!! A sympathy vote for sure!!!!! A big fat zero is still too good for him, but I know I'm biased!!
  8. Spot on!!!
  9. Great argument DB, completely tore me apart there with your own excellent language and debating skills. Thanks for your contribution.
  10. I speak only for myself when I say I have never liked him as a player. Let's not kid ourselves on that he stayed out of loyalty to the club, he couldn't get another club to take him on the £15Kpw outrageous wages we were paying him. He is an imposter to me as I have never believed he is Rangers class, and believe me I know that term itself has been completely downgraded in the last few years, and no matter how low we set the bar for "Rangers class" Jig will be well below it. Im delighted that he will be absent from the side for at least the next few games, and content that his failed tenure as Rangers player and Captain is almost at an end. While I have no intention in a race to the bottom, I would like to hear your opinion on the worst player to have captained us if it is not him. The only player with anywhere near as poor technical ability who was captain in my 30 years of going to games was Ricksen IMO.
  11. My point was that we caught a Celtic side that were miles in front of us under Advocaat in no time at all. Not saying Ecks tenure was all glory and some of it was downright awful. Was merely pointing out that what appears a massive gap can, in this sport, be closed easily if you get some basics right.
  12. You got one thing right in all of that. He IS an imposter. Amongst the things you got wrong are that we all loved him once. Nope. He has always been a terrible footballer. Bereft of any vision, he tackles poorly, his defending is abject, he has no pace, he can't win a header without fouling, he slows the game down to his pace, he has a lack of ball control and clearly cannot motivate his teammates. In short, he is the worst Captain in our history, and yes, he is an imposter.
  13. Did anyone in their wildest dreams think that the appointment of Alex McLeish would enable us to take on, and beat regularly, Martin Oneills side who were 20 points clear of us, while our club was downsizing and in massive debt? You never know what manager is going to work out well. Some managers fit really well into a certain club and not so in others, and some good managers just can't get things to work at other clubs. It is not an exact science. The current Celtic side is one of their worst in history, and won't take much catching. Any decent manager who knows what we are all about and fits in well enough can take on, and beat, Ronnie the fist-pumpers really average imposters. We just need to get there and improve with some shrewd additions and one or two clever buys and we can challenge them immediately. As for the rest of the Premiership sides, utter dross without exception who we will easily beat over the course of the season.
  14. Spotted this on Facebook yesterday and posted there that this was a great read and a piece of journalism that our Scottish hacks could only dream of.
  15. I might have missed this elsewhere, but is there a definite date sorted yet or is it still dependent on our finishing position and play-off participation? While out of the country on the 16th, there is a small chance I could make the 23rd, but dont want to influence a vote if I will not be able to attend.
  16. I agree with that also. I completely disagreed with naming our famous Govan Stand in his honour, and still do. The decision was taken for political and deflection reasons, not on merit IMO. You cannot compare Bill Struth with Sandy Jardine i'm afraid, yet they both have the same honour. What happens when Greig passes away? Was Jardine more deserving than other playing legends? While Jardine worked tirelessly in his last few years when our club needed it most, which I will be eternally grateful for, his previous two decades of employment at Rangers were more miss than hit, and I have many different reasons and events for saying that, none of which will be published out of respect for the man. The bust is a fine honour and that is where it should have been left. Another poor decision by that board that we will be left with, although in fairness I am much more content to let this one lie than the many other poor decisions they made.
  17. That was my first thought as well. Hearts loss was definitely our gain.
  18. It is all quite simple when you think about it logically Frankie. I hope others can understand this simple summation. I would urge fellow Bears to refrain from any further attempt to introduce scumbags rumours into the fray without any evidence other than what a mate read on a Tim/Irvine inspired blog. We must be clever enough to be able to understand what is clearly mischief-making from anything with a grain of truth in it. Some posters desire for our board (and/or King) to fail just to save face from a proven error of judgement is quite worrying.
  19. I have it on very good authority that the rumours are wrong, and have been created by anti-board antagonists who cannot accept the EGM decision. More spin and bluster from Irvine and his employers, and those of the 3names ilk. They remind me of tossers on twitter who still have a "45" twibbon 6 months after their defeat, and coincidentally i'm sure they are also usually to be found with anti-Rangers sentiments.
  20. Great work by NARSA to pay for this. (Thanks to barca72 for link)
  21. There is definitely something not quite right with this. I might be putting 2 and 2 together here and making 5, but it seems King was never a fan of AIM, and was looking for a way out of AIM while still having to be looking keen to remain part of it to satisfy the likes of R&M whose votes he got at the EGM, votes that may have been crucial in gaining power. The statement makes it too easy to blame the previous board for AIM refusing a new NOMAD, or a "reputable" NOMAD refusing the gig, but I am guessing had King really wanted to rejoin AIM, he would have found a NOMAD happy to accept the gig without any difficulty at all. As long as shares can be easily traded I will be quite happy. I do not want a matched trade facility, as there is no way to buy out those in power should the need ever arise. This was a big problem in the Murray era, and is a warning we should heed. For our fans groups like RST and RF who have successfully been recruiting members to buy more shares, these shares have to be readily available, not on a matched trade basis or through expensive stockbrokers. I see the RST have jumped to the defence of the board immediately with a spectacularly quick statement for a notoriously slow mechanical organisation. One would almost think it was co-ordinated! I would prefer them to have a bit more balance, while we are all happy (or should be) that the scumbags have been thrown out, we must still scrutinise our new board at every turn to ensure they dont get carried away, or take our support for granted. I certainly dont go as far as some on here with shameful accusations of lying or mistrust of the new board, but this delisting was well warned to us and has come about. It may be that it is like a broken clock that is right twice a day, but it is a little unnerving when that lot get something spot on. The new board will have to sort this out within the "few weeks" timescale they have promised - we will be watching with interest.
  22. "paid for by Rangers supporters" Any idea what group, if any, paid for this? I dont recall any group asking for funds for this, or this ever being mentioned before?
  23. That doesnt make sense to me. If the Auditors resigned several months ago, the Nomad only resigned a few weeks ago, so we clearly dont need auditors in place to have the services of a Nomad.
  24. Was just about to say the same. For the first decade Murray was a very good Chairman. From 1988 to 1998 I have no problem with him. Obviously from 1998 onwards his unchallenged ownership was detrimental to our club's financial future.
  25. He looks like a luxury player to me. He is not a worker and is probably always going to be best coming off the bench. Whether we can afford this type of player will depend on what players we have in midfield/forward positions as luxury players can win you games but you need the others to work so much harder to make up for him. If I am being harsh on him it is probably because he is being judged on only a handful of games, and he clearly lacks match fitness/sharpness. Time will tell if he can make the step up to 90 minute contributor and not go hiding for long spells in games. I look forward to seeing if he is the real deal, then we can perhaps talk about a deal for next season IF he is a free agent.
