  2. Hope you are right about JCD leaving, although he and his agent are making noises about wanting to stay. His lack of composure in finishing has been a major let down. Add to that his inability to regularly finish games and injury prone nature and I would not be unhappy to see him leave. I agree that Velicka could be used in the same way as JCD but with a better finishing ratio.
  3. I can understand bringing in a youngster with potential as the sell-on could be very good. But surely this can only be done once you have got your priority signings covered? Walter has himself been quoted many times towards the end of the season that we want to bring in more flair and creativity for the coming season, so unless it is players at the Euros he is targetting, why are we not even being linked with this type of player yet?
  4. I'll go for Croatia to beat Turkey. Got Croatia at 12/1 E/W pre-tournament so quite happy that they have got Turkey in the QF. The next one is very tight, but I think Portugal will shade it. Scholari will have then tactically spot on to beat the Germans who have not been that good in the poorest quality group. Holland all the way in this one. Playing some great football and I have got them at 12/1 for the tournament which generous only because of their group. Russia are a good side but I think Holland will be too good for them. This is the one I am looking forward to the most. Can Spain finally (11/2 pre-tournament) nail a big competition. I would love to see them against Holland in the semi, but I fear that the experienced Italians will scare them off and the Spanish will bottle it as usual. One good point towards Spain is that both Gattuso and Pirlo are both suspended, so I will go for Spain. Then Croatia to beat Portugal, Holland to beat Spain and Holland to beat Croatia and I am quids in and have paid for our opening away European fixture.
  5. Are we just bitches now to any decent club with SKY money. Surely we can run our own club at our own level that we can afford to buy/keep players at our level and only sell them if and when it suits us, not having to sell to break even or pay off debt. 7 years of downgrading, 7 years of cost-cutting, 7 years of predominantly poor players coming in, 7 years and the highest fee paid is £2.5M, 7 years of john McClelland/Martin Bain. It appears that our chairmans desire to beef up the balance sheet is taking precedence over the team on the park, and any decent if unspectacular cash offer is going to be snatched at, despite what it does to the team.
  6. I hope they asked for his resignation. I am quite sure they did no such thing. At the very least told him that he is there to serve all 12 clubs equally and fairly, and to tell him that any requests for postponements of our fixtures that do not suit us and us alone will not be granted, so dont even ask. If there is another POD case this season, we have already answered the question.
  7. We had a relatively easy start to last season. I remember thinking that we should have 15 points from first 5 games no problem, giving us an early advantage as their start was a little trickier. And so it turned out, but I keep telling people (of both sides) the league cannot really be taken seriously until 22 games have been completed. Then everyone has played everyone home and away and you get a true reflection of where things are at. Before that stage it is good to be ahead but you may have difficult fixtures to play that your rivals have already played.
  8. Surely the greatest movie of all time. just burst out laughing reading the line, without even clicking the link. Could get dusted down and watched after the footy tonight. Altogether now..............Always look on the bright side of life:cool:
  9. Just worked out what NSFW means Just as well I work for myself BTW, Sweden for the cup(s)!!
  10. It looks from an interested observers viewpoint that your above point is absolutely correct. He can see that the people who were running it have left, and he doesnt like who that leaves in charge, either directly or indirectly. Also by attacking only 1 person in the article, it is making clear who DM (sorry, an RST insider) believes is responsible for this and is already attempting to discredit him, and by association the RST itself.
  11. Sadly, I thought as much. However I find it very interesting to see that he posted it himself where it can be picked up and quoted back, rather than get someone else to do it for him, as has been the way recently. It is clear now that the real reasons for the resignations will not be issued by the current board.
  12. Agreed. With the board meeting last night now over, we should expect something concrete about the resignations in the next day or two, no? Unless of course the facts are unpalatable and cannot easily be dressed up to look good.
  13. Agreed. His comments about MMcN were interesting I thought and was the first time anything has even been hinted at in the open about the resignations.
  14. That would not surprise me in the slightest mate. Have you seen the GS "charm offensive" today elsewhere. Well I got one of the words right.
  15. Been looking for a thread like this. Just need to share with you all my footy coupon for last night. Normally my footy predictions are poor to say the least and I always seem tog et tempted by the odds on offer rather than what I think will happen. But yesterday I popped into the bookies to collect on a small coupon I had on with 2 x £2 doubles on the first 2 days games and thought I would reinvest a tenner on alst nights action. So I went for a £5 double on Portugal/Turkey, £2 on 3-1 to Portugal, £2 on 2-1 Turkey and £1 on Deco for first goal. I will be going back today for over £73 back I usually go with a scattergun approach to betting on big games and place a few small bets on different things and am happy if one comes up, but to place 4 bets and they all come up makes me a happy bear this morning. Dont mean to sound full of myself, I am genuinely shocked at winning! Will probably get nothing right on tonights games now.
  16. Never seen that Zlatan goal before. A beautiful sight. Never thought the big man had that in him actually. Brilliantly clever footwork.
  17. Never been a fan of players having a second shot at a club, so although I thought PL was a decent player if played in the right position in the right system, I would have no confidence in him being right for us for next season with Walter's systems of play and players available. Probably best he is remembered for the '02 cup final and some great Euro goals, especially the one against Inter that qualified us for the CL last 16.
  18. Shock Horror! Daily Rebel run stories without checking facts!! However there are parts of it which if not exactly true are very close to being true I would imagine. It truly is a sad day when "a trust source" chooses to use the rebel to leak the story, unless of course the "trust source" came from within Ibrox itself.
  19. Mine also, so consistently brilliant. I could understand totally Jim White's "Tell me Brian, why are you so good?" question as that is probably all I could have asked him as well.
  20. Thanks for the welcome and it is always nice to discuss the Rangers with like minded bears. I have been posting infrequently for years on FF (WestEncRanger) and more recently on RangersMedia and am finding that boards like this and RM a breath of fresh air to the clique driven politics too often sadly shown on FF. So like it or not , I will probably be popping in for a chat and to keep updated with what is going on.
  21. I have it on good authority that the final fee is 1 million euros, which because the Euro is so strong just now makes that about £800K. I actually think we have sold him too cheaply. Before you all call for the nurse let me explain. We signed him for about £1.5M if memory serves me and although looked a complete disaster in front of goal, he has achieved respectability with a mid-table French Ligue1 side who have probably over-achieved this season, and he has played his part in that success. That would say to me that he is still worth the price we paid for him, but we all jump on the fact that we did not rate him as an excuse to think that nobody else willr ate him either. The French league is superior to our own in terms of finance and exposure and I think we have jumped in too quickly to sell at a figure some feel is a steal, and so do I but not for us.
  22. Fair enough, absence makes the heart grow fonder etc I can understand. 67 games in 43 weeks in 9 different countries was my final total for 07-08 so no wonder I am not missing it yet. My wallet is certainly not missing it that is for sure. It has cost over £4000 just on tickets and transport for me and another £1000 to take my 12 year old boy to all home domestic games, about half a dozen away league games, all cis and scottish cup ties plus lisbon and manchester away in Europe. And that is without a pie or a beer (I am known to be quite fond of both!)
  23. We have had enough workrate players in our squad, we want flair players and creative players. Unfortunately they seem to all cost a lot of dosh these days, and we are left with the workhorses. I have no problem with Miller signing having been a failure at the scum. I have a problem with Miller signing having already been a failure with us. I have a problem with Miller signing having been a failure at Derby. But most of all I have a real problem with signing someone whose first touch tends to go 30 yards if running and 5 yards if standing still. Whose finishing is not bad but not great either. I think the only thing Miller has improved since he left us in 2001 is his salary. In the case of JCD or Cousin they got the benefit of the doubt when they signed because I (like many others I am sure) did not know too much about them. I can say personally I had never heard of either at all. In Miller's case we all know him, know what his qualities are, and the fact that we can sing for him to be stuck up Walter's back passage whilst 2-0 up in a cup final shows that most fans dont rate him at all. Are we all wrong, and he is going to come in and be the perfect foil for Boyd? Time will tell. I doubt he will get it any worse than real Rangers fans like Hutton from the supporters in the ground, but we will have to wait and see.
  24. After the longest season I or anyone else can remember, I can honestly say that I am not yet missing the football one bit. Normally by about this time after the season ends I am already getting bored with no game to look forward to or just been to, but the run-in to the end of last season was exhausting. I suppose I would be feeling a bit better about things had the season ended better for us, and I am still bitter about losing to Zenit in the biggest Rangers game I have been to in my life but I am quite enjoying no games to go to at the moment. I also make sure I avoid the papers during the silly season when we are linked with so many different players who wont end up at Ibrox. I take the approach that only when I get the official text from Rangers that a player has signed do I believe it, and this keeps the blood from boiling at some of the rubbish that is written in a desperate attempt to continue to sell papers when there is nothing genuine to say. Having just joined the forum here today can I say hello hello to all the bears and bearettes on here and hope to have many good discussions about the Rangers in the future.
  25. Just a couple of wee corrections required to an otherwise spot on post. It is only the opening ceremony that is being held at the piggery and indoor arena is a cycling velodrome and badminton arena. It is that arena that it is well understood to be going to be sold off to the scum at a knock down price for a new facility for them.
