What's the best atmosphere you have seen at Ibrox?
Tannochsidebear replied to Ser Barristan Selmy's topic in Rangers Chat
so many to pick from; domestically, aberdeen on last day of season in 91, aberdeen when gazza won us 8IAR, tims in 97 new year, tims when Edu scored in last minute, tims 2-2 with 9 men, tims 5-1 with wilkins volley were all special I remember vividly. On European stage, Kiev, Leeds, Fiorentina (tension!), Parma rematch, Moscow in 93 when we drew 0-0 and failed to reach final the atmosphere made me as proud as i've ever felt, everyone was in tears! Thursday night was a great reminder of how good we can get the place given the right mixture of opponent/match/performance. -
I want to see a lot more of him playing to a high standard before I offer a deal. A few good games in among a few bang average games is not consistent enough, yet. Given his age and position, consistency is usually the last thing these guys add to their game, so the young man can have a decent future ahead of him if he keeps working on his deficiencies and shows a good attitude. When he has a good game he was been great to watch and a nightmare to our opponents, but his bang average games leave us well short in a vital area. Similar to Coulibaly, we dont need to be doing anything hasty with regards to tying these guys down, lets see at the end of their loan agreements how they have fared over a whole season.

cheers SBS for the correction, it was indeed the Swans. the figures are not individually in the accounts, it only shows the profit on player trading for the year, which includes value write-downs, players released, youth fees as well as buying and selling first team players. you would need to collect all the players in and out during the financial year, guessing all the non-disclosed figures to see a total, and lets be honest nobody in the media is going to do that to prove the bheasts are lying.

Calculate using a mixture of Dembele dollars and Tierney tokens and get a figure that is ridiculously high, double it, and leak it to the papers that Liverpool are lining up a bid at that level. If we sell him for £5M, leak it to the press that it was £10M. That is what happens across the city and was proven in the Ki scenario. If you recall celtic released that they got an undisclosed fee, but leaked it to their compliant puppies that they got £5M. Two days later the buying club (Cardiff I think?) announed the signing of another player for a club record £4.5M, which kind of blew away the celtic claims they got £5M. Nothing said about that up here of course. We have to learn to play this game.

Surely two members to propose and second your application is enough given it also then goes to a member vote after a hustings, personal statements etc to determine who the members want to represent them. This sounds like deliberately trying to prevent members from becoming part of it, rather than encouraging.

Have the tims not played as many games at Murrayfield in the last 4 years as Hearts have? They used Murrayfield as their "home" ground in 2014 when the Commonwealth games were busy funding the rebuild of the entrance and walkway to the piggery, and upgrading their executive boxes FOC.

Really looking forward to this game today. I think it will be another really tough test against a very stubborn, physical side who will try to prevent us from having any space in the final third, and try to win aerial battles up front with long throws and long balls into the box from any opportunity. A side full of confidence from a great point at Tynecastle last week, they will have the belief in front of the tv cameras that they can derail the Ibrox juggernaut. This will be a different type of test to what we have faced to date, on a plastic pitch with a egomaniac ref who has plenty previous for bad decisions going against us, and frankly it is these type of games that we have pretty much always come unstuck at over the last few years. Just when we think things are going better, along comes a game like this and deflation hits again. Add in the fact we have 2 points out of 9 from our away games to date this season and we certainly shouldn't be over-confident. Of course, today has every chance of being different. This is a different manager, mostly different players, a different way of playing. Confidence is high, goals are flowing, the passing and moving have been great, and we have every reason to believe that we have a new toughness that should be able to cope with the test outlined above. This is a very big week with 3 big games before the next international break. Livvy today, Vienna on Thursday and table-topping Hearts at Ibrox next Sunday. 3 wins in a week will see us go into the break with real belief that we can challenge for trophies this season, with the ultimate aim of "55" at the back of everyone's mind. The depth of the squad now that we are getting most players back from injury means that no matter who plays, the team has much the same look and feel to it, and a similar quality. I'm not sure anyone, far less Gerrard, knows what our best first 11 is? My first 11 would be; McGregor Tav Katic Goldson Barisic Dorrans Coulibaly Ejaria Middleton Morelos Lafferty You can replace Worrell with either CH, Flanagan/Halliday/Wallace provide adequate FB cover, any of Rossiter, Halliday, Jack, McCrorie, can cover the 3 midfield slots, and Candieas, Kent, Grezda provide good cover for the forward places, although we really only have 2 CF's with Sadiq being pretty much written off as inadequate by SG. From all the summer signings this is the only one that has been an absolute dead duck and I dont think many of us would believe you could bring in so many players and all bar one have worked out well. I'm not sure we will see the above 11 today, as with a big game on Thursday he may not want to risk some players he has in mind for that game in a game like this on this surface, but for the first time in a very long time I am not too bothered with what 11 are picked as they all seem to know what their role is and all are playing pretty well. A good Rangers team playing well will always beat any other Scottish team (bheasts apart) on paper, lets hope our players also prove this on the park today. -

I think it was Charles Paterson, who does a lot of Scottish football reporting for Sky Sports. Gerrard gave him short shrift last week also when he tried to push him to say something controversial about something he didnt want to talk about. -
I’m being told the Hearts game on 7 October is to be shown live with a lunch KO. Very sceptical about this info and can’t see this being changed at such a late stage. Anyone heard anything?

This should have taken all of 30 seconds to sort out. Hearts v celtic at Murrayfield, Rangers v Dolly at hampden. One kicks off at 12.00, the other at 3.00, giving ample time for any extra time/pens needed in the first match. Doesnt really matter which way round, that can be up to the broadcaster. Had it been Rangers v Hearts same scenario as above with us at Murrayfield and tims/dolly at Hampden. Had it been Hearts v Dolly, Hampden could have been used on both days no problem. It could all have been announced prior to the draw and nobody could have a problem with it, perhaps apart from the broadcaster, but it gives them an excellent double-header to go up against whatever games are on from the EPL on Sky that day, so no big problem there either.

I have £50 on us at 8/1 I got pre-season. I am currently being offered a cash-out of £81. Previously there was only the nominal £45 cash out (stake less 10% which is normal for ante-post betting) The tims were indeed between 1/10 - 1/12 pre-season. I'm not getting carried away with being above them at this very early stage, as nice as it feels. Having listened to updates and reports from tynecastle on Saturday, Livingston play a long-ball physical game with a very solid defence and very well organised. This will be a very tough away game on Sunday which we MUST win but will need to play very well to do so. Not forgetting we have not won an away game yet, and our 2 poorest performances to date have been in our last 2 away league games. If we come through this, we have table-topping Hearts at Ibrox the following week, a few days after Vienna at home in the Europa. Come back to me after 2 more domestic victories and I will be more than happy!

it seems the prices are ridiculously high, £60 for a top with an extra £5 for longer sleeves, and over £100 for a full kit. Given they are only current for 9 months its a total waste of money if you are looking at it sensibly. Clearly we (like fans of all other clubs) are supposed to just buy out of loyalty no matter the cost.

superb result. like most i feared the worst after 43 seconds but we grew into the game and by half time i thought we were comfortable although we had done very little to try to score. second half i though Villarreal came out the traps on fire again for 10 mins but once we weathered that we again grew into it but this time tried to create chances as well and got a great equaliser. we then fell asleep and conceded a really poor second with at least 5 players guilty of not closing down their man but we just rolled the sleeves up and got into them again and i think a draw was a fair result overall. A deserved draw away from home against 5th best Spanish side. I want that to sink in a bit! The intensity of our European performances has been fantastic this season and its important we treat our Scottish opponents with the same attitude and intensity, which i think we havent quite managed to do so far. if we can do that we will definitely be title contenders. For now im looking forward to a few days of walking with a spring in my step. Thanks to the manager, coaches and players again for making us proud again.

honest accurate assessment. want to see that type of desire, intensity and quality domestically as well, starting Sunday.
-
initial thoughts on twitter is that it is managers choice and Katic has no injury. A bit rough on katic who has been excellent, and a big game for Worrell for his first game. Cant quite see the point in taking such a big risk here when he could quite easily give Worrell the game on Sunday instead and go with the tried and tested tonight. But thats why he gets the big bucks so heres hoping it works.
-
Glad to see this, but I think he went down too far a level and he should be standing out at that level but I fear it wont improve him enough. If he had managed to get to a Championship club, that level would have given him a much better experience.
-
I would rather wait to we see him perform for half a season at least. There must be a reason a diddy club like Angers are happy to let him go out on loan, lets make sure we have all the facts and see what level of consistency he brings rather than a good spell of a handful of games. Nobody can do anything official until 1 Jan at the earliest, so no reason why we cant wait till mid-Dec before deciding if we want to try to tie something up in the winter window. The early signs are impressive, lets hope this is his natural level and not a flash in the pan.
-
spot on @buster. i would love to see it, but it wont be just Villarreal that would be surprised by those tactics!
-
What little evidence we have is that SG is more inclined to go deep and defensive when up against it. The games we played with 10 men or when trying to hold out like at Fir Park, and the overly negative tactics at the piggery would indicate that we are more likely to try to shut up shop until such time as we are no longer level, and try to hit on the break or from a set piece.
-
Did I not read somewhere that Morelos & Flanagan were not suspended because all cards were cancelled after the qualifying rounds? I thought that was a bit suspect at the time!
-
I agreed with SG's after match assessment that we were good in patches and pretty poor in patches. Incompetent officials are clearly the norm now, but I dont see things evening themselves out as we are so frequently told when yet another goal is chopped off, or our player wrongly penalised. The Morelos "goal" is an absolute shocker from the linesman, not up with play, a square pass and Morelos is behind the play at the time of the pass, it should be an easy decision for him to do nothing. Only if he is certain that a forward pass has taken place and that Morelos is ahead of the ball and the final defender can he put his flag up, and none of these actually occur so I will call it what it was, cheating. As for the rhat Miller, he should have been sent off for the elbow on Halliday, and I was absolutely disgusted that he was actually clapped off after a bad foul on one of our players got him his overdue red card. That was pretty much his only two contributions to the game, he is an even worse player now than he was for us, and that is a really low bar. Dundee might have a chance if he is banned for 3 games and they can play with 11 hard-working players instead of that passenger. Diddly O'Dea should have been sent off for that shocking attempted leg-breaker at the halfway line that we didnt even get a foul for. It was high, reckless and he went to ground at pace and stuck his leg up to make sure he caught him. He did get the ball (from my angle) but the reckless intent to injure an opponent is what should have seen him go off. You fear for McCann & his Dundee side, he lost most of his best players from last year and could only replace them with conference players, and Miller. A straight fight between them and Accies for the drop I think, with the other probably going down via the playoffs unless something can change in the winter window. Onto Spain we go for the hardest of our 6 group matches first up, if we can take anything from the game it will be a great result that could set us up for a tilt at qualification and post-Xmas Euro footy which is an incredible thought having been in Luxembourg just over a year ago!
