Sorry but that's being as evasive as any currently at the RST. Much was indeed said but almost nothing was ever clarified. Here we have no shortage of fans discussing an event that virtually none of them know anything about. I think your assessment above is entirely wrong and I really don't understand why you are being so coy about those events. Either they happened or they didn't. If they happened then either they are relevant to \Rangers fans or they are not. If they are then why would anyone want to deny supporters a definitive picture?

I think some of these ex-players are just showing the same frustrations as the fans. No one enoys criticising someone who's done as much for Rangers as Walter Smith but what do you do when it gets as bad as this? Walter chose most of these players, he's had years to coach and organise, he sets the team out on a game-by-game basis, and he's the one they look to for motivation and leadership. When players perform so badly and are obviously unwilling to put the effort in, what do we or the likes of Gough and Hately do? Do nothing, say nothing? I don't think so, especially when you have a media platform to hand. Why should Walter expect their silence when his team are so far behind what he himself should be demanding. Walter needs to take heed to valid criticism and either get this group of players off their arse or take a hike himself. No man is bigger than the club, not even Walter Smith. And nothing that Gough or Hately have said is anything but the truth. It's a simple matter of accepting responsibility and deflecting atttention by taking a swipe at Gough and Hately isn't helpful.

Typically defensive effort from Smith. If it wasn't for some of those he's criticising, he wouldn't have lasted three seasons and left Ibrox a failure. Stop whining Walter.

Now we all know there never was a "gang of seven" but there were seven board members who did resign in close order from the RST. While we're talking about old wounds and fresh starts, I've never understood why none of these seven individuals have ever set out in plain language exactly why those resignations took place. I hear lots about moving on and putting the past behind us .... but who the hell knows what that past is? Frankie, you were one of those involved and you still maintain a commentary on these things, why don't you step into the light a little and put that episode in the RST's history into clear perspective?

Boss, You did us all (well, nearly all) a great service with your post last weekend. Not just for the curiosity it stirred up around Mr Duffy but for the eyes it opened among such a wide audience of Rangers supporters and for what it subsequently revealed about some of our own. No apologies were required.

I don't know whether you're informed or just speculating but you've got my attention. I said a week ago in a thread about Murray's recent press statement that he was still holding all the aces and that, one way or another, he would dictate what happens from here. Unfortunately, this may not be in the best interest of Rangers but there again, Murray never was.

Sadly, while it's probably just mischief, our newest member could just be right. Or at least, there seems to be nothing of substance to say he's definitely wrong. Now that really would be a serious downer.

Strange times throw up strange events. Who's next?

If you spot which one is the lawyer, be sure to let us know, we can't have one of those fellas on the loose. The accountants are everywhere but fortunately are mostly of the human variety and broadly house trained. Anyways, I think we're all mainstream bears like yourself and welcome your input.

All good and valid points. This certainly isn't a time for head-burying. I saw this in the late 1960/early 1970's. I saw it again in Greig's term and Wallace's 2nd term. There comes a tipping point where it all just falls apart and no amount of intellectuallising will stop it. By the same token, the eventual climb out of the abyss provided the very best of times as a Rangers supporter.

Then less pinging, more running with the ball and shooting accurately from distance.

Thanks Frankie. I suddenly started doubting what I knew but that sorts it.

I agree with you. It's been a while coming but the slide is about to turn into a freefall. Attendances and ST sales are starting to break previous trends and much more of the same will see attendances fall dramatically. At least that's my view and recent numbers tend to show something new is happening among the support. Perhaps eyes that were closed have been opened, perhaps it's the realisation at last that SDM isn't really here for ever. I don't know but something has definitely changed, even if it's at a subliminal level.

Can anyone remind me in a few brief words exactly why it is we are giving credence to Mr Duffy's reported interest in Rangers. This isn't sarcasm, or even mischief, just that I've completely forgotten why his 'plans' have apparently acquired more substance that any other. Is it because he really is the only show in town or because he's the one the RST have engaged with or because he has made some tangible moves that I've missed? Please, this is a genuine question.
-
Well could you try pinging them instead to someone who is able to do something with them.

Assembly to investigate ways of providing ownership scheme to fans..

Yer a very bad man. Maybe it's a reputation worth cultivating.- 22 replies

I find it impossible to believe Mr Duffy is as thin-skinned as to take genuine offence at website comments. If he thinks there is something of a more deep-rooted agenda against him then he must be receiving it from elsewhere? Personally, I think he can only be referring to mischief with tongue firmly in cheek.

I know it. Sometimes it's necessaary to be blunt in order to be clear. We have no issues, I'm sure of that.

It is a bit short on detail but that's just a fact of time and resources. However, what's appealing about this is the way a set of clear objectives is emerging that can be applied to all future proposals and used as a means of assessing each case. Above all, it's something of a relief to see someone finally commit their position to paper and publicise it freely.- 22 replies

I think it's more a difference between active and reactive but, again, you have to choose the words in your own posts. However, if you see anything offensive in my posts then please do point it out. None is ever intended and you mustn't confuse aggression with conviction.

You call it what you choose to call it ... but you're wrong. Genuine supporters rightly want to know who he is, what he is and how he proposes to be involved in our club. Since our representative organisations are not doing this job, or at least are not providing the balanced information we need, it is being left to journalists and individual research. To me this is exactly what interested people do in every walk of life. You need to spend less time in defensive mode, looking for the mischief both you and Mr Duffy have apparently found, and more time providing the evidence to support Mr Duffy's credentials as a prospective white knight for Rangers. With respect, if you have this information then please present it. If not then what position are you actually in to judge whether mischief is masquerading as enquiry?
-
It's not difficult for him to have a finger on a pulse. Whether it's the pulse is another thing. If he's as interested in Rangers as he says he is then I guess he can read posts on websites just like the rest of us really. What's much more interesting is that he is already judging scrutiny as "mischief making". Now where have I come across that before?
-
I can imagine a situation where both sides have reached tacit agreement he will go in January. This latest statement is simply a fairly transparent attempt to ratchet up the price by a few bucks.
-
I see you're point but I think unquestioning acceptance has largely been the very devil that got us in the current mess. I hardly think it's counter-productive to show concern and want to base opinion on fact. No one who is honest and genuinely has the interests of the club at heart will be in any way discouraged by supporters showing caution and judgement. How else do we express our own concern after the events of recent years. I'm particularly not interested in the notion of blind trust. The very thought that lawyers, bankers, regulators and even SDM will put the club's interests first is highly amusing. In my experience, lawyers look after their own interests, as do bankers and I'm damned sure SDM does. You trust in others mate, I'll look at the facts I can see in front of me with my own eyes.

As you say, time tells all and I guess you'll emerge saying 'I told you so' ..... or something else altogether. However, I'm sure the details will indeed be important in determining whether any such deal is a good one or not.
