  1. That's half a dozen for 6th December, anyone otherwise minded?
  2. Correct and I think that's why the rule is the way it is. Also I suppose it's possible that you don't intend playing that player in Europe then you wouldn't register him at all, so you get your full complement of 25 and let's say his contract is up at the end of the season it becomes someone else's problem.
  3. Last one is a good point and goes back to what I said about UEFA not flagging up the failure to register for the St Pats game.
  4. Legia appeal upheld. Take Celtic's place in Champions League. Maribor head of security Slobodan Slosovic breathes sigh of relief as plans to build special "cages" to house visiting fans are suspended and Scottish Polish fans still recovering from injuries sustained at Tynecastle are declared unfit to travel. Celtic now away to Steaua Bucharest in ELQ4. A Bucharest Police spokesperson said - we remember those wild Glasgow fans from the Unirea match, we couldn't stop them with tear gas and pepper spray, unaccountably they still wanted to lay down their banners and watch the game in peace. We'll nuke them this time. Local taxi drivers once again promise special tourist rates for visiting fans.
  5. Thanks MB. All looking good for SATURDAY 6TH OF DECEMBER so far.
  6. 6th of December is Saturday mate what we're you drinking last night?
  7. The Second Semi Annual Gersnet Dinner (with Special Guest *Star*) seems like a great excuse to book a ; you can make a quick dash for the airport straight from dinner.
  8. More than happy to accommodate the lovely Samantha, my good man; god knows what she sees in you Edit: There may be a supplement for folks with less than 100 posts in 4 years
  9. Of course they can't and no doubt that's why the rule is written as mandatory forfeiture of the match in respect of playing suspended players but the penalty is discretionary in respect of ineligible players. However, I don't think your analogy is quite true. It's not that Legia "chose" when to take the suspension, in fact it's almost the opposite; absent any evidence of deliberate wrong doing, they thought the player had served his suspension but it turns out according to the Rules he had not. In your example if the "error" was of the same or similar nature, and to all extents and purposes the suspension had been served, then a fine may well be an appropriate penalty. The penalty should not be dependent on the team or player involved. I could see your point better if a club said: we need the player for our next match so we will defer the suspension to the next round or the next time we are in Europe. Ludicrous suggestion, not necessarily; think of all the times that Clubs appeal in domestic football to avoid an immediate suspension. Fortunately in Europe, the Appeal process is expedited to avoid that situation. I do think that discretion is required here to avoid just the kind of ludicrous situation in which UEFA now find themselves. If that was tried and led to anomolous decisons then the mandatory rule could be reimposed. It should be writtten in such a way as to make clear that ordinarily forfeiture WOULD be the penalty unless under exceptional circumstances and it would be up to the Committee to decide what constituted "exceptional circumstances". So all that is really needed here is insertion of the words "except under exceptional circumstances". Sorted
  10. I agree with the OP to the extent that the current Board of non Rangers fans (which must surely be unprecedented in the history of our great Club) do not appear to see themselves as knights in shining blazers and ties, especially in the wake of all that has happened these past two years. They see their job as putting the Club back on a firm financial footing en route the SPL & Europe. Whether or not they are doing that job well, is not at issue in this thread. Therefore they employ others to fulfil that function. However if memory serves me, from attending one AGM after another, the RST in particular were extremely vocal in their criticism of the Murray don't by the Herald etc doctrine, so why are the current Board wrong to adopt that approach? Whilst some laud the UoF/SoS for successfully contributing to a vast decline in ST sales; others, like me, see this is as counter-productive ; because, whilst it puts the Board in difficulty, at the same time it puts the CLUB in financial distresss once again. Furthermore it seems more likely that GreenCo and/or others as yet unknown, will ride to the rescue than the great King of South Africa. The biggest problem however for those of us who believe in real positive fan influence (I would categorise the UoF/SoS as negative influence) is that both the RST and the RF schemes seem to have stalled in a sea of apathy.
  11. Most people will have a great deal of sympathy with your opinion but sadly there IS a diiference between an ineligible player (by way of registration error for example) and a suspended player and it was up to Legia to know the Rules, which apparently they didn't, so it's got nothing to do with corruption, at best it's an error on their part plain and simple. Consider also why have we never heard of this happening before? Could it be that that is because all the other Clubs who participate in the CL know and follow the Rules? All that said, the penalty should not be mandatory and hopefully UEFA will change it for next season onwards.
  12. I think the OP must have had a few too many last night.
  13. That's very tempting, rbr, but it's a democracy so I'll give everyone till noon tomorrow, then I'll look in on Cristobal on the way to the match to confirm.
  14. There are two lists A and B. The A list is the list of 25 players for each round. There are separate dates for each the qualifying rounds then a final deadline of 2 September 2014 for the rest of the competition. http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/Regulations/uefaorg/Regulations/02/09/88/17/2098817_DOWNLOAD.pdf (page 34 Rule 18.13)
  15. Indeed they are the RIGHT answers; but unfortunately we don't get to vote on it.
  16. Let's be completely honest here, with £20m at stake, if it happened to us the Club and Fans would take it and move on. We might feel a bit sheepish when we got off the train in Maribor, but we would take it nonetheless, knowing it guaranteed us a place in the Group stages of one of the competitions. In any event there is not one thing Celtic can do about it. If they were to suggest to UEFA that they should go by the result of the match, UEFA would say NO, the Rules are the Rules. If they then said well, we're not playing in the CLQ4 on that basis, they wouldn't be allowed into the ELQ4. If they then withdrew from the CL, what would that achieve? Sporting integrity, yes it would but would you expect Rangers to do it in similar circumstances, no you wouldn't; in fact I would venture to suggest that most folks would say, don't be daft, Legia screwed up let's take the chance and get on with it. It's a bad Rule which could easily be fixed by insertion of two little words "may be"; but we can moan all we like, it isn't going to be changed this season at least.
  17. We're going to have to settle on a date GS and stick to it now, otherwise this will just go on endlessly.
  18. Amidst all the doom and gloom highlighted in Blueflag’s “What’s Next?” thread, we still have The Second Semi Annual Gersnet Dinner (with Special Guest *Star*) to which can look forward. A reminder of the story so far. The official result of the official poll for the Dinner - time of year - was a draw: Early Season - August/September 4 votes 40.00% Autumn – October/November 4 votes 40.00% In the posts on the thread some specific dates were highlighted: Frankie had weddings on the 8th and 9th of August; JC said that he is doing the deed on the 24th August and then off for a European road trip for 10 days so anytime after about the 6th Sept suits him fine; SC said not Aug 20 – 23 or the weekend of September 19th when he’s getting married; some suggested avoiding the September weekend as well, 27/28 September; GS commented that if we have something reasonably early we can perhaps then have crimbo drinks; and STB pushed September/October time from the start. All of which shows how difficult it is to get a date that suits everyone. Whilst it did seem reasonable to go somewhere in between the two winning time zones, which would have argued for September or October; the fixtures weren’t kind to us in that respect with only two home games over the two months: 27 September 2014 v Hibernian (September weekend, see above) 18 October 2014 v Raith Rovers We then have two home games in November 2014: 8 November 2014 v Falkirk 15 November 2014 v Alloa Athletic (may be postponed if Rangers have players in the Scotland squad) which dates are within the poll result. (I personally cannot make any arrangements between the beginning of October and mid November but that shouldn’t stop you going ahead in that period if someone else wants to take over.) In a further poll: the winner by a short head 6 votes (46.2%) was 27/09/2014 v Hibernian; and in second place with 5 votes (38.5%) was Christmas/New Year Only two other options received one vote each: 15/11/2014 v Alloa and End of Season None of the other options received any support. BT Sport then knocked out 27 September and I suggested either: Dec 6th v Cowdenbeath - easier from a restaurant point of view (and less likely to be moved perhaps); or Dec 20th v Livingston - slightly more attractive fixture, but last shopping weekend before Christmas and might be difficult for restaurants. In the subsequent thread TB rightly said that “Most decent restaurants are in full "Xmas special menu" mode by the 6th December, meaning busy restaurants with overpriced menus. Any restaurant not busy or overpriced at this time of year probably isn't up to much.” He was supported by four others (two of whom were at the first dinner). At the same time 75% of those voting opted to go back to Malaga Tapas. Based on the above, I have had a discussion with Cristobal the owner of Malaga Tapas, who appreciated our custom for the first dinner and the guys who have been back in since. He makes the point that because he is not in the city centre he does not feel under the same pressure as city centre restaurants to provide a Christmas menu or indeed to provide it at or from a certain date. He will do so subject to demand but he always wants to accommodate his regular customers and would never say it’s Christmas Lunch/ Dinner or nothing. In other words he will give us what we want when we want it. Therefore my suggestion is that we go ahead on the 6th of December. I don’t feel that there is anything to be gained from yet another poll so what I would ask is that folks post their agreement or otherwise in this thread asap and I’ll act accordingly. Oh and no speculation on the identity of the mystery guest, please, all will be revealed along with the detailed arrangements once we finalise the date.
  19. I think your first two sentences are just a little contradictory. If "They must have believed that by leaving him off the list (or when they left him off the list) , he would still officially be serving his suspension" (which I agree must have been the reason they left him off) then it follows does it not that they thought that would give them a full 25 man squad to choose from. I completely agree that any advantage was minor at best and indeed the additional player may not even have been involved in the match/on the bench; but it is an advantage nonetheless; and one the Rule is designed to prevent. That apart I completely agree with your sentiments and perhaps this may even lead to a Rule change. A Celtic friend of mine is equally embarrassed as was Ronnie Deila at the press conference IMHO; made worse of course by the Norwegian connection.
  20. I'm guessing that it was a genuine error; but one which the Rules are designed to avoid Clubs exploiting. Unless you read the CL Rules very carefully in conjunction with the Disciplinary Rules you would think that you wouldn't need to register a suspended player. The fact that they registered him for the Celtic match, even "knowing" he couldn't play in the first leg, supports that view. I think you really have to read between the lines, to avoid the pifall that they fell into. So I guess it may have been a bit of both. They wanted to have 25 players registered who could play in the St Pats match but didn't realise that that meant that the suspended player wouldn't "serve" two matches of the suspension. It's an easy mistake to make. My guess is the Manager had to be involved in that decision; but Managers aren't renowned for being rule book anoraks. They may have thought there was a loophole in the Rules; but they were wrong. The more I think about it; the lesss chance I think they have on Appeal.
  21. I think I've figured out why the registration aspect is so important here. If, as appears to be the case, Legia didn't register the suspended player before the St Patricks game then they can register and play the full compliment of 25 players; but if they are forced to register the suspended player so that he "uses" his suspension, then they can only use 24 of the 25 registered players. So by not registering him, albeit by mistake, they had an extra player to choose from in the St Particks match.
  22. It only applies when the teams otherwise finish level (AET if applicable).
