As I said, Andy, I think that Crown Office will find the entirety of the Sheriff's judgement very strange indeed. Having been involved to some extent on the periphery of the legislation I am in doubt that whilst old firm fans were the straw that broke the camels back and the Government and the Civil Servants at least did intend for the legislation to apply to all fans; I am equally sure tnat you are right to the extent that the sheriff's comment about the accused "not being that sort of person" could be taken as implying that whilst I'm finding you guilty it's kindof OK if your a Partick Thistle fan but not OK if you support either side of the old firm. I am pretty sure that the police will be appopletic about this outcome for precisely that reason. I will email the Civil Servant who guided the legislation through Parliament and see if I can get anything out of him but he's probably had a very bad weekend indeed.

Andy Mitchell contract terminated "by mutual consent"
BrahimHemdani replied to SteveC's topic in Rangers Chat
That would have been my choice; see no reason why Gallagher could not have become another McGregor. -
I had a brief conversation with McCoist last summer when he had a bundle of players bios in hand and he surprised me by being not overly enthusiastic about the lad at all. I had a Spanish friend over at the Annan disaster game last year and in his opinion Mackay was the only Rangers player worth talking about and he was only on the pitch for the last 20 mins or so if I remember correctly.

Players like him HAVE to be the future for us. He may have to play wide left because Aird isn't half as effective there as he is on the right and McLoed as we all know is a central midfielder. But ideally, I would have him in the team as an attacking midfileder behind TWO strikers and to hell with Law and Black. I'd take McLoed and Mackay any day of the week.

In most cases going to the games, especially in the frozen north, is even worse; I can assure you. Debenhams certainly are benefiting from increased sales of thier thermal underwear range.

To my mind singing "f*** your Pope and f*** your Queen.”" IS offensive and the whole point of the legislation was to make such action at a football match a criminal offence if it was judged likely to to incite public disorder in the same way is it would be classed as breach of the peace if sung in the street. The legislation was intended to overcome the defence that it was somehow OK to sing such songs inside a football stadium whereas it was not OK to sing them outside. I find these comments from the lawyer extremely odd: because whilst the law is indeed vague: (a) the sheriff DID find him guilty (b) that's exactly the point, society HAS changed and what was acceptable in the past is no longer so © that's also the point, the law DOES focus on football behaviour, sectariansism isn't mentioned anywhere in the act, for at least two reasons: (i) it's almost impossible to define (ii) the Government doesn't believe that you can legislate it out of existence (it's about long term education etc). However, the fact that the the sheriff found him guilty but granted him an absolute discharge on the grounds that he wasn't that sort of person, might perplex the Crown Office even more than if he had been found not guilty. I do agree with Zappa to the extent that putting the onus on your average police constable to decide on the spot whether or not words are (a) offensive and (b) likely to incite disorder, is asking a great deal; but it has to be said that on this occasion the sheriff's verdict proves that the constable was correct in his or her judgement. The greater isssue in the sheriff's mind appears to have been whether or not the charge should have been brought in the first place and the absolute discharge demonstrates clearly that he thought otherwise. Whilst I think it is unlikely that the legislation will repealed (given the efforts the Government went to to drive it through) it is obvious from this and other recent decisions that a drastic overhaul is urgently required.

Gordon Waddell is one of the better journalists; but selling Llee Wallace (a) wouldn't solve the problem and (b) isn't going to happen because he doesn't want to go anywhere. A forced administration, highly unlikely but not entirely beyond the bounds of possibility. However, Graham Wallace going if he can't get the job done; that's well within the bounds of possibility.

I think I'm right in saying that we have 5 goalkeepers now, maybe we'll start a trend and play one of them in the outfield? Seriously, the Mitchell and Gallagher situations demonstrate the utter folly of short term loans; because when the player comes back both the player and the Club are snookered as he only has two places to go. If Gallagher was only going on loan for a few months then there was absolutely no reason to sign Simonsen; the others could have taken turns to sit on the bench. If we are going to loan out players we should stipulate that it has to be for a full season. -
The Goalie - Confirmed new Ayr UTD goalkeeping coach

Jim Stewart, the former Kilmarnock keeper who also had a spell with us, is our goal-keeping coach. -
The suggestion if I understood it correctly was that the District Council deliberately caused the land to be over-valued by not instructing the District Valuer to allow for abnormal costs as a result of contamination. It was further suggested that a prospective purchaser such as Celtic FC might benefit because they could arrange a higher mortgage on the basis of the Council's survey but then negotiate a lower purchase price based on their own survey which did make allowance for the abnormal costs. Apologies to D'Artagnan and stand to be corrected by him if I've got any of that wrong. If you read my comments at #2, #5, #7 & #9 you will see that I don't agree with this analysis.

Easdale brothers to plough £20m into Rangers
BrahimHemdani replied to Steve1872's topic in Rangers Chat
The thought of these two in complete control of the Club is enought to give anyone serious nightmares. Of course the only way that £20 million or whatever would benefit the Club would be through a new share issue but the lower the price of the current shares goes; the nearer that becomes a reality.- 74 replies

“Sadly we can’t offer him what he needs at Rangers and we thank him for his efforts and wish him every success in the future.” (A McCoist). A terrible indictment really. -
They're not in it for growth, well not long term growth anyway; they're in it to make a fast buck, say 2-4 years max; and buying into Rangers at the rebirth may well have seemed like an attractive deal over that timescale. I seriously doubt if there has ever been a similar opportunity in world football (though if there has been no doubt someone on here will remind me). Fiorentina (and I don't pretend to know anything about the Italian stock market) are not as big a club as Rangers nor are Portsmouth (who are now a community owned club anyway) for example and certainly not Accrington Stanley or even Coventry!

I am told but am by no means certain that the answer is "about a week". I had a look at the stock market rules but couldn't find anything; that said they are complex and I would certainly not guarantee that there isn't something somewhere; I'd be very surprised if there wasn't.

£4.5 million apparently, perhaps he'd like to invest it in Rangers International. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/mike-ashley-stumps-the-city-with-debenhams-bet-9065718.html The deal was so complex that not even the renowned Sky Business News presenter Jeff Randall could figure it out. However the nub of it seesm to be: a way of putting pressure on the Debenhams board to discuss his plans to start stocking Sports Direct fashion lines in the stores. If the board refuses, the share price could suffer and Mr Ashley would end up with a significant stake in Debenhams, which could cause further difficulties for the business. Basically he made a big bet on the shares going up based on the results; now he's betting they'll go down but not as much as someone else who is prepared to bet against hm. He may well qualify for all your descriptions but one thing is sure he's not stupid.

Unless it's been bought in the same sizes as sold in which case it would not be notifiable but you would still think it would come up on the ticker tape. Or they are still sitting with the market maker.
