  1. Under the new system the "Champions" route is easier although it means an extra round, because the opponents in the Play-Off round (4th Qualifying) will be the Champions of Denmark, Switerland, Austria and Cyprus (though Austria and Cyprus have certainly improved a lot in recent years); whereas the "non-Champions" route means playing the 3rd or 4th placed team from England, Spain, Italy, Germany or Portugal, which is likely to be a much tougher proposition.
  2. Niraj, told me this on the phone today and it's encouraging to note the view from Fife bears out what he said.
  3. As discussed on the phone today; I will call Robert and ask him if he is agreeable to me passing on his number.
  4. I spoke to the guy Niraj today and another called Jake who is involved in the production. Their objective as he set it out is to focus on the fans interpretation on the history of the Club. He stressed it is not an investigative piece. They plan to focus on the Club's roots, what happened leading up to the liquidation and the Club rising again. I told him that there is a healthy scepticism about media interest in Rangers; they are aware of this and assured me that it is not going to be a critical view. For what it's worth, I too do not detect any hidden agenda and have agreed to be interviewed prior to the game at Ayr on 15 February. And before anyone says it; I have told them that my views are not always mainstream.
  5. Agreed. Notice that WBA apart, where he only played 45 games in 3 years; he seems to be a bit of a nomad and there has been more than one pub incident. At 30+ is he really the kind of player we want at Ibrox?
  6. That's exactly my point Hildy and one I've made here more than once in the recent past. Admirable as the RST effort was, it only succeeded in raising £250,000 to buy about half of one per cent of the company. Approximately 20x - 25x as many fans (by volume of shares) bought shares in their own right rather than go through the RST Scheme. Buying the company out of liquidation in concert perhaps with other wealthy investors or buying shares as a group in the IPO was the answer at that time but buying shares now is not the answer. 5% is the first threshold that you need to pass, so that you can call a general meeting of the company and require the company to consider something like a membership scheme at a general meeting. So the RST would need to raise 10x the money raised in that highly charged period of time when we were in liquidation, just to get to the starting gate. Frankly, even if the RST could raise another £250,000 to subscribe for shares in a new offer, and they would have to if it was a rights issue or the percentage would be even lower, it is pissing in the wind. I too believe in fan ownership or at least fan influence on the ownership; which is why I was member of the RST and its Secretary for a time; but that model is not going to succeed whilst the current structure is in place. It's not an impossible pipe dream in my view; but it would take a massive world wide coordinated effort and I don't see it happening any time soon. The reason I say that is that whilst it is a much debated topic on here and no doubt on other forums; the vast majority of Rangers fans don't give a toss who sits in the Boardroom, so long as there is a winning team on the park. PS: This thread has quickly gone off at a bit of a tangent!
  7. I agree with that Ian, too many people just looking after their own personal agendas and interests; the opportunity has passed but it COULD be done in a different way in the future.
  8. We could have, Ian, but sadly we couldn't raise 1/20th of the money required; which you would probably say proves your point
  9. Stuttgart are the masters at this in Germany, we would do well to look there or elsewhere in Germany as you suggest.
  10. I am having great difficulty treating your comments seriously. Correct. Ibrox Stadium has been the home of the Rangers for more than a hundred years. The main stand is a listed building. It has been the site of two terrible disasters and hundreds of famous triumphs. It is regularly filled with 40,000+ spectators. I agree that it could be better used although that was addressed to some extent when the offices were built. Most important of all in my opinion is the fact that it is known throught the football world as the home of The Rangers. Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes recently said that “Celtic create a great atmosphere home and away but I still think the most intimidating stadium I have played in was when we played Rangers. Normally as a goalkeeper you block out the noise of the fans but the noise they made that night was impossible to ignore. We had Henry, Ronaldinho, and Messi playing for us and I can’t think of another occasion when those three were on the same field and we didn’t score. “Rangers fought like warriors that evening and I am sure a big part of their performance was down to the fans and the atmosphere they create for their players.” It is one of the things that makes Rangers newco the same club as oldco: the colours are the same, the fans are the same, and we play in the same stadium with the same trophies in the cabinet. I expect Ibrox Stadium to be the home of the Rangers long after I'm gone.
  11. No it isn't; as per the thread on academies; it is absolutely vital to the future of this football club that we have a proper youth set up which would actually more than pay for itself and all the facilities at Auchenhowie; quite apart from the fact that it is a necessity for the first team to have proper training facilities. In the past it has been an important consideration in players signing for us.
  12. We are a Club that is recognised and supported throughout the world with the potential to be in the top 30/40 money earners in Europe but we are severely hampered by the lack of TV revenue due to our small local market; so a top youth set up is absolutely vital to our future. Kids all over Scotland and other countries especially the US would fight each other to play for us and the figures quoted show that it is cost effective. Getting back to the SPL and Europe is obviously our top priority but a fully fledged youth academy and a scouting system must be high on the agenda. It is ludicrous that we have neither. Hopefully Wallace recognises that these are areas vital to the future of RFC where money needs to be spent. The Dutch are the past masters at this, perhaps we should look there for someone to head it up; Artur Numan and Michael Mols spring to mind. Ronals de Boer would be my top choice but I doubt we'd get him.
  13. I think that TE is copying my stuff from here Rangers director King: Listen, we simply can’t risk a 6-0 battering at Celtic Park #17 01-24-2014, 12:18 PM And in this thread yesterday: His reported comments are way over the top and it's boring and does his already tarnished reputation no good at all IMHO. But he's wrong about this: I don't think any Rangers fan expects us to win the SPL first time out, a European place would be the limit of most fan's ambitions; but there's a limit to our endurance.
  14. Calderwood is an interesting thought but he just got a new job at De Graafschap. Apart from his brief and controversial second spell at Newcastle, Keegan has not managed a club for 6 years. The biggest obstacle to him however would be his far from wonderful realtionship with Mike Ashley. Keegan successfully sued Newcastle for constructive dismissal and was awareded £2 million by a Tribunal. "In June 2013, Keegan stated he would only consider a return should owner Mike Ashley leave the club" (Wikipedia). Given Ashley is a significant shareholder in Rangers and it was even reported (wrongly) last summer that he was about to buy the Club; it doesn't seem likely that Keegan would be a candidate.
  15. Only if it's a rights issue; but that is what I would expect, otherwise existing shareholders will see their holdings diminish proportionally. This is pretty much a rehash of what has been said on other recent threads. Nothing new in this "story". Other papers had a little more detail. Clearly King is on some kind of media offensive.
  16. That could be right because the wording is "or bonus in connection with the termination of his employment" so if it was the previous bonus to whhich he was contractually entitled then that would be correct; but economical with the truth as I said. In fact the more I think about it the more that sounds right. GS: We're going to sack you for cause and you can so us if you like BS: OK you got me; I agree to go right now for no payment but I do want the £200k. GS: Deal
  17. I agree with your interpretation. "Under a Scottish law agreement signed on 17 September 2012 (but effective from 1 September 2012), RFCL employed Brian Stockbridge as Finance Director of RFCL for a salary of £200,000 per annum……… The agreement is terminable by RFCL either for causes or on 6 month’s notice and by Mr Stockbridge on 3 month’s notice. " If he was simply on a normal contract (which is implied in that wording but would be unusual for a director) and he left by "mutual agreement" then he would be entitled to a maximum of 6 month’s salary. It’s arguable that if it was truly “mutual” then it might be 4.5 months i.e. half way between 3 and 6. If he was dismissed for cause then he would not be entitled to anything beyond 6 month’s salary unless it was deemed gross misconduct when he would be entitled to nothing. If he was on an annually renewable contract for example (which would be normal for a director) and he left by "mutual agreement" then he would be entitled to the balance of that contract i.e. 7 month’s salary. The 7 month’s salary would cover the notice period. I can’t see that he would be entitled to 6 month’s pay in lieu of notice as well. Here again, if he was dismissed for cause then he would not be entitled to anything beyond 6 month’s salary unless it was deemed gross misconduct when he would be entitled to nothing. Therefore if he has been paid £200,000 then someone is being very economical with the truth.
  18. No, not combined, you might be surprised at what they're on. Certatinly 6 figures each.
  19. Hadn't noticed that; bit scary actually.
  20. McCall, Davies or McInnes would easily get us to the SPFLP and probably a McInnes team would play the most attractive football in the process. Once we're back where we belong we can look further afield but experience tells us that not all foreigners are what they seem!
  21. The question I would ask now is with Stockbridge gone are Ally & Co next? IF you are going to do it; then now would seem to be the best time because the league is more or less won and it would give a new manager half a season with little or no pressure to blood more youths and build his team for SPFLC and beyond. My money would be on McLeish perhaps on a temporary basis (though that rather goes against what I said above); McCall who would be cheap and has an excellent record with little resources at Motherwell; or better still Billy Davies whose training regime alone would put the fear of god up the players, but not sure if he would come or if we could afford him. Another thread to rename perhaps, Zappa?
  22. Modesty prevents me referring to my post #31 at on this thread Tom English interviews Rangers CEO Graham Wallace 01-21-2014, 03:26 PM You heard it here first.
  23. Absent agreement to the contrary i.e. "mutual agreement" (and subject to the actual agreement not what is recorded in the prospectus, which is ambiguous at least in relation to the bonus and shares) , it would appear that he was contractually entitled to 6 months salary; I would regard anything above that as either ex gratia or a bonus or some combination of the two.
  24. Peralta scored in the friendly v Dundee, not sure if he's even been allowed to take one since then But I really want to see some imaginative moves because unless you've got Beckham or Bale I doubt you'd have a high average from direct shots.
  25. It's hard to argue with what the Sports science guy says (see other thread) about physical fitness but it's the tactical work that seems to be lacking. I really would like to know if they ever do anything in the afternoon or is it just the way it's always been i.e. down the bookies or the snooker hall (or home playing video games)? Do they do any work in the community for example apart from the occasional hospital visit or charitable appearance?
