Unless the rules have been changed in recent years (and they may well have been) a manager is not entitled to ask the ref anything at any time. What he is entitled to do (and this may well be only at full time because at half time would be seen as trying to influence decisions in the second half) is to ask the ref if he can come into his room to ask him a question. It is up to the ref if (a) he admits him and the question and (b) if he chooses to answer. It happened to me many moons ago in a reserve game at Kirkaldy when then Hibs manager Pat Stanton wanted to know why I had sent off one of his players. He came in the refs room asked the question, got my answer and then wanted to persist so he was politely asked to leave. The procedure was that one of the linesman would take notes of exactly what was said and by whom. It wouldn't suprise me at all if today they might record what was said, I would if it was me, better still video it.

It's an interesting rule, which seems to suggest that "use of offensive, abusing and insulting language." is OK provided that it isn't repeated?

Just watched the video and it looked to me that Whittaker took his back foot and Bocanegra took his front foot. So I suppose you could argue that if anyone was to be sent off it should have been Whittaker although Samaras was still going for a split second after that. BUT the telling thing for me is Bocanegra's reaction, head in the air and then down with a knowing look on his face. He knew he brought him down and he knew he was about to be sent off. If that had been at the other end and we hadn't been awarded a penalty and a red card we would have been screaming at the ref. Mr Murray had an excellent game IMHO, all three red cards were correct.

Now I've seen the video there is no doubt about that. Whether it's a goal scoring opportunity, I'm not so sure. Agreed Mulgrew would not have got there but the ball was 3/4 feet in front of Wallace; if it had been the other way I think we would have been beeling.

Yes I thought it was very noticeable that the ref let a number of tackles go where he awarded a foul that normally might have been a yellow but kept his cards in his pocket on this occasion. Kerkar go the only yellow for a silly foul in MF but there were definitely worse fouls by Brown, Wallace and McCulloch. I want to see the Wallace incident on TV but most of the Celtic fans on the web site I looked at and quoted on the thread I started seemed to agree that Cha pulled Wallace back.

I noticed Commons (I think it was him anyway) made a point of shaking every Rangers player's hand and the ref at full time.

Actually played in three positions today, Craig: started up front, droppped into MF when McCabe went off, then CB after Bocanegra got sent off. A quality football player not the most skillful but understands the game inside out and NEVER lies down. He will make a terrific manager at some point in the future (for any team).
