I was at the game after Celtic announced they'd signed him vs Aberdeen and we got beat 3-0 at home. When we got him my feelings were excitement he was a good striker that scored goals. I wasn't really old enough to see how big a thing it was. Looking back though, I think the reason it became such a huge thing was down to Celtic's mishandling of it from their side. Sure, the religion factor was big and would still have been a moment but Celtic made a complete ar*e of his signing.

I was a paperboy in the early to mid 90's it was great seeing the back pages and seeing who were getting linked to. The Daily Star always had the more incredible ones like Marco Van Basten.

Controversial but in terms of what Gascoigne and Laudrup were bought for. Which was to push us to the next level in Europe both were failures. Not taking anything away from 9 in a row. They joy they brought me watching them strutting their stuff in domestic games still makes me smiles even now. But it is bittersweet when I remember our record in Europe from that time. Bar one season. I would have loved to have seen both play for Advocaat.

Roberts did. He was a fairly decent keeper if I remember right he had a habit of going goal if needed. I'm sure he did it for Spurs a couple of times.

Not related but coincidentally William McGregor who was largely responsible for the Aston Villa we see today. Was from Glasgow and a Rangers fan. Villa's motto is "Prepared" similar to our own "Ready ".

Agree, the ageing veteran seems to seldom work out for us. Few odd exceptions like Weir but most are very forgettable and largely a waste of money.

If true and Southampton at least doubled that. Would be a good bit business for us. Assuming Gerrard and Allen had a cheap alternative lined up also.
