Football is a unique business and supporting a football club is a unique state of mind. I have been a Rangers supporter since time immemorial. I don’t know how it came about. The advice of big brother I suspect. Why I took that advice ahead of father (Spider) mother (Hibbee) big sister (Aberdeen) I don’t quite know. I liked the sound of the name and. I liked the colour blue. I could reel off the Iron Curtain well before I was completely proficient in multiplication tables. And that’s it. I couldn’t change. I’ve never wanted to change even though I admit the many triumphs are always marred by the memory of disasters and strangely, worse, spells of mediocrity and the anticipation that they could all happen again So there it is. I don’t own the club. I’m not a shareholder. The club owes me nothing. In the days when I attended matches, I paid my gate money and in exchange, got to see a game of football. I very rarely buy merchandise - too tatty mostly and I don’t wear team shirts - but if I were to buy something I would get the use of the article and the club doesn’t have to acknowledge my great generosity. Oh, I can rant and rave with the worst but I know that’s all I can do. Rangers - take them or leave them. I won’t leave them so I just have to take them.

They will need an Ian Ferguson type to play between them.

Every Rangers manager’s position is precarious if the team is not top of the league and out performing the nearest competition. Supporters know that. The Board knows that. It’s useless to make statements about it..

Jimmy O’Rourke, illustrious inside forward with Hibernian has died aged 76. A bit of Bobby Johnstone’s skill and a lot of Eddie Turnbull’s energy he was a cracking player. 100% energy every minute of every game.

As you know, r_s is the master of the slow play so that it takes time for his hand to be revealed, if ever. I assume his position is that a demand being dumb doesn’t mean or indeed imply, that the person making the demand is dumb. It’s a reasonable inference to draw, however, entitling the reader to an explanation why he should not so infer. Expect the explanation sometime on Friday morning - if ever.

Can’t work up much enthusiasm. England will win easily, as is their right, if you believe the media. Selfishly I’d rather they were put out early on so I don’t have to watch or listen to the cluelessly demented but that’s unfair to English football supporters who go faithfully to their clubs’ matches home and away. South Americans usually produce some exciting stuff. Are Brazil and Argentina any good? I don’t even know the bookies’ favourites.

Not forgotten. His absence provoked the memory almost every game. Let’s hope recovery-wise he’s Larsen, not Mols.

Rangers announce friendly with Bayer Leverkusen during winter break

I would have Gerrard back but only if celtic took lennon back at the same time. Thank you, neil, for your part in the 55. -
I’m not a member of either scheme but If I were, I would withdraw and cancel but if I could, I’d still turn up to cheer the team on. Or more probably moan at them.

Arrest made after Aberdeen fans fly sectarian banner at Ibrox
Scott7 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Would it be ok if the banner text was “Kill all Rangers Supporters”? -
I’ll have to take your word on that, old bean.
-
That’s quite funny ‘tho I expect the bannermen are deadly serious about it.

1. Few. 2. None. 3. Not I. 4. Yep.

Newcastle beat Chelsea (as most teams seem to do) 1-0 to go third! City lose at home to Brentford. Obviously City can’t compete against clubs with the massive resources of Brentford.

Perhaps this is Rangers’ level. -

The bloke is 33. Should be done for failing to grow up. -
Blood and thunder, glaur and muck. Fine for us old fellows but not so good for the young soccer geeks nowadays. Got to admit, though, City and Chelsea last night served up a sumptuous repast of old style football just without the ingredients aforementioned.

Arsenal and ‘Spurs out to BHA and Forest. Hammers lose to Blackburn. Liverpool stagger past the Derby County galacticos on penalties. The big clubs don’t want this, do they?
-
Everton duffed 4-1 at Bournemouth in the Carabou. They had a terrific young fullback in the sde, though.

Are you a shareholder, Sbg? If so attend at the agm if you can and ask the question.

No, thank you. -
Thanks for the word picture, 26th. I regret sincerely that my knowledge of Tranent is limited to what I saw when passing through and that so long ago, there was nether Asda nor Aldi there nor anywhere else in Scotland come to that. Why the carnation? Could you not just have worn your sword and carried your Bible? Just in case there were other dudes likewise equipped in Ternent, you could have packed your parachute on your back. Perfect ID. Easily recognised and unlikely to be copied.

Watching some FA cup games I had to turn off sound because of the monotonous cacophony. If you must have drums at games import drummers from South America. At least they’ve got rhythm. A bit of samba does no harm. The cup games were poor. What else can you expect from the first round.By contrast, the Rugby League World Cup was rattling good entertainment. Samoa v Tonga was the best bit of sport I’ve seen since I can’t remember when. -
He was greatly admired on R5 in his early days but they have form (bad) for that. They were previously enamoured of a couple of Cardiff City managers whose name I forget and a long-gone Watford bloke.
