  1. He only got three. The penalty was par for the course but the first two were magical.
  2. Kai’s. I can see it as if yesterday. In fact that’s not true. I didn’t really see it at the time either. I saw his foot go back and I saw the net bulge. The connection of foot to ball and the flight of the ball to net were too quick for what was keen eyesight then.
  3. Fair play, old chap. Nobody can say that you get everything wrong.
  4. It was of course the ranks, not the hordes of Tuscany. That’s enough of this rank, Roman stuff for the time being.
  5. On FF GranvllusClutterbuckus has posted this table of Rangers’ top ten goal scorers. The placings are by average rather than total. Don’t know if it’s league goals only. Name Nationality Position Rangers career Appearances Goals Goal/Game Jimmy Smith Scotland FW 1930–1946 259 249 96,14% Jim Forrest Scotland FW 1962–1967 163 145 88,96% Robert Cumming Hamilton Scotland FW 1897–1906 209 184 88,04% Willie Reid Scotland FW 1909–1920 230 195 84,78% Jimmy Fleming Scotland FW 1925–1934 268 223 83,21% Max Murray Scotland FW 1955–1963 154 121 78,57% Geordie Henderson Scotland FW 1919–1927 195 142 72,82% George McLean Scotland FW 1962–1967 117 82 70,09% Billy Simpson Northern Ireland FW 1950–1959 239 163 68,20% Ralph Brand Scotland FW 1954–1965 317 206 64,98% Some old guys there. Surprised that Ralphie Brand is tenth after Maxie Murray and George McLean much maligned, by me anyway, and old warhorse Billy Simpson. No McCoist.
  6. I’m thinking more Horatius. And the hordes of Tuscany greetin’ on the phone-ins.
  7. Never. This is compo. He’s elite. Glenlivets, Glennfiddichs, Ben Riachs - that sort of thing.
  8. The trouble with Rangers’ bridge building is that the folk on the opposite bank don’t want to accept the spans ostensibly because the colour of the girders upsets them but really because those whom Rangers have vanquished time and again now see a chance to contain Rangers at a reduced operating level - high enough to generate income but not high enough to win anything. I don’t care if Rangers’ PR guy is Attila the h - , er, Leader of a horde of barbaric tribesmen, so long as he is accomplished in the business. I don’t seem to have read anything about the chap’s previous PR experience and successes. Have I missed it?
  9. Big crowds standing safely on high terraces.
  10. Not this year’s competition but vintage quarter final ties. Terrific entertainment. West Brom v Forest, Leicester v Wycombe, Arsenal v Watford. Slower than modern football and less athleticism but nowhere near as tedious. Wycombe didn’t string eight along the back but stiill won 2-1. Willie Johnston cutting through the Forest defence with ease. Clattered twice by Martin O’Neil so Willie gets up and cements Archie Gemmill. Couldn’t follow the logic there. Other legend* celtic managers featured across the ties. What a winger John Barnes was. Should have left it at that. * Legends for Rangers fans. Brady was another.
  11. That’s a good one. I hope the new PR guy keeps that up his sleeve.
  12. buster’s back. No bad thing. We all need to have our opinions tested. He needs to get shot of that bigoted avatar, though. No he doesn’t.
  13. Is he on his own or does he bring a company with him? I reckon PR needs more than one face. At the very least one bombast and one weasel. If a swivel-eyed fanatic is what’s required I am available and not expensive.
  14. Broadcasters would be foolish to attempt to recover their money but if they did, they would only be entitled to a proportion of the fee for the number of matches they could not show.
  15. For a terrible moment I thought the next line was going to begin with the word “Stewart”.
  16. celtic and Liverpool deserve their respective championships but as pointed out relegation outcomes are not so clear nor promotions and play-off positions in lower leagues. Cancellation is the easiest answer. Rotten luck for Dundee United by the way and I’d be raging the other way round. Should season ticket holders get a refund? I’m not but if I were, I’d just leave the money with the club. I posted this before I read John Mc #33.
  17. Definite penalty. What took them so long to decide?
  18. Is that possible? one might ask I read on another website that next season they will close the upper tier of their hallowed Dick Donald stand restricting capacity to less than 16,000. It will improve the atmosphere, says their heid bummer. He also boasts that Aberdeen are the fifth best-supported team in Scotland. Some achievement that. Apologies to Craig for mentioning the Dandies but I can’t resist sneering at them from time to time.
  19. Poor match. Liverpool just out in accuracy, just short of pace and just a little bit slow in anticipation. Margins between brilliance and mediocrity can sometimes be fine. Bournemouth were poor but should have won 2-3.
  20. And we’ll win 2-3 (King hat-trick)
  21. Liverpool 3-0 B’mth Arsenal 2-2 Hammers Palace 1-0 Watford Blades 2-0 Norwich So’ton 2-1 Mags Wolves 3-1 Brighton Burnley 1-2 ‘Spurs Chelsea 2-1 Everton United 3-1 City Leicester 3-0 Villa
  22. Rangers are underdogs for this match so the team can relax and probably win.
  23. I hope you’re right but I doubt it. A generation of Scots has brain washed themselves into not being able to vote Conservative.
  24. Correct. He should have followed a path similar to Ferguson’s. Partick then Dundee United then Ibrox. He could read a game like no other. I used to listen to his radio summarising. His ability to predict the timing and method of the next goal was uncanny. If he had kept Sandy Jardine he might have overcome the obstacles JohnMc rightly points out.
