THE former Light Blues No8 was in Irvine to regale a crowd of more than 1000 fans with tales of his career – an event marred by sectarian chanting.

Adair and his girlfriend Lynne Benson were among a small group who got to meet the troubled star at an earlier “VIP” session.
Other guests – who paid £115 to be there – said Gascoigne had no idea who Adair was.
As ex-chief of the Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Freedom Fighters, he was sentenced to 16 years in jail for his part in Northern Ireland’s troubles.
A source said: “Johnny Adair was there for the VIP part of the evening with Gazza. This took place an hour before the main doors opened. The select 125 VIP guests then had to queue up in the hall as Gazza posed on stage with them.
“He was standing there like a show pony and fans only had a few seconds each with him.
“Johnny waited patiently with the rest of the crowd and politely greeted Gazza with a handshake before getting his photo taken with a blonde woman and exiting the stage.”
This week our sister paper the Irvine Herald, told how bigots ruined the event by singing sectarian songs including The Billy Boys and chanted “f*** the Pope and the IRA” .
Ex-Rangers goalie Andy Goram warmed up the *audience at Magnum Leisure Centre with tales of Gazza’s time at Ibrox. Then Gascoigne, 48, took to the stage to reminisce about a career in which he also played for Newcastle, Tottenham and Lazio.
Gazza spoke of his starring role for England in the 1990 World Cup and 1996 European Championships.
Adair was brigadier of C Company UFF in Shankhill Road, Belfast. He was released early from jail under the Good Friday *Agreement in 1998 and moved to start a new life in Ayrshire.
Last summer, Antoin Duffy, Martin Hughes and Paul Sands were found guilty of plotting to murder Adair and ex-UDA leader Sam “Skelly” McCrory.
Adair was called as a witness and, when asked if his group was *responsible for the murder of up to 40 Catholics, Adair responded: “It has been reported as that.”
Terry Baker, of A1 Sporting Speakers, said of Adair and Gazza’s handshake: “Paul definitely didn’t know him because he didn’t mention it.”
