I think it's like any other penalty except you only get one kick. If it hits the keeper and goes in then it's a goal.

Here we go again. More promises by legends..........

I could understand if it was Samford Bridge - but Ibrox? Have a look on Google Earth. -
Maybe I'm just missing something but couldn't you just switch the kickoff time? I personally have seen quite a few Rangers games live on telly completely legally... It could clash with any Sky game you like.
-
Whit? You could buy up a lot of land around Ibrox a hell of a lot cheaper - virtually free if you want to develop. Development would probably bring in more money with Rangers playing at Ibrox due to the cash and kudos that brings into the area.
-
Could Ticketus have decided to back Green to buy Rangers, then to pass on to themselves and finally sell on at a large profit to recoup their losses?
-
Sounds like bullshit to me.

Do they have that power?

Any chance you have a reference to it that I could have a look at?

Never heard of such a law. The cup finals surely break this law as well as some internationals? I think it's just a rule that leagues give TV companies to protect the attendances of other games. In Div 3, I'm not sure how relevant this would be especially with a subscription TV that appeals to only one set of fans. However, The KO times could easily be adjusted round those times and no need to worry about a clash with a another game.
-
There's no doubt it will be a factor.

If we start in Division 3, could we start a new Rangers TV company and buy the rights to televise the games - a bit like Setanta? We could offer them a decent amount then rake it in if our fans subscribe in droves. We could potentially be earning more than Celtic through a deal like this. Offer the other teams say £50k a season while we maybe have 50k fans paying £100 a year for the live away games plus full home games with delayed showing, highlights, previews, news and all the stuff the old Rangers TV did. After costs of say £1m we could be making possibly £3.5m for the season. Then, when we get back to the SPL, we could bring our TV company and then take them to court over monopoly of TV rights and competitive practices, which could then allow us to have our own TV deal. Just a thought.

I think we have to do something to recognise the players that come over and continue to play for us. Not sure what though.

I wasn't actually talking about setting up a new club, I just meant that if Wimbledon can do it from scratch, surely we can do something with a head start with the current club if we buy it and start in Div3? What we need is about 10m to buy the club and another 10m or so in working capital (although less may be needed for Div3). Can 200k fans raise 20m? It's an average of £100 each but a lot to raise at once. If only 20k subscribe then it's £1000 each which would be difficult to raise. The trouble is we have the number of fans but not the cash commitment and it needs a trusted leader and committee to get it going. In my opinion, the best way would be for one or more rich supporters to loan the fans the money and then have a membership scheme that pays it back over say five years - in a way that govansw1 has mentioned. I think for it to work you need to give shares in the club in return. There is nothing like ownership to give people a sense of financial responsibility.

Instead of revenge should we show them how it's done?

I'm not saying we do it now. I'm talking about when we're back on our feet. That's my point and you seem to be missing it by a mile. Do you like that situation? Would you do it differently if it was someone else? Then why not actually do it? The point is to show how it should be done - it's in the thread title... I suppose you either get it or you don't.... -
And yet the players walk away for nothing... That is most probably true, and while it stinks, it's understandable when you consider how mercenary players are these days. However, how is threatening them while refusing to talk to them (as has been implied) going to help? Someone mentioned that if they stayed till Thursday they may be paid and become de facto employees of the new company. But it's obvious to see that no-one knows the scenario and Green has been less than forthcoming about his part of the equation. The meeting for this should have taken place over a week ago for it to do any good.
-
I thought I already explained that - why tie yourself into a club with total uncertainty run by a man you don't trust when you can transfer yourself to any club who wants you? If you want a transfer, why allow Green to pick and choose what team you can talk to and have him hold clubs to ransom over the fee and put potential suitors off? The fact that the players will get more money doesn't make it right, but it makes it a no-brainer from their selfish point of view. I fail to see the win-win situation.

If Wimbledon can start a team from scratch, then surely we can do something with Rangers?

I take it you're known as "Mikey"? Welcome to the board. Don't know who "the gets" are though...

I don't get where you are coming from. When you want to attract people to come to you, you don't hit them with a stick and tell them to do as they are told. You have to talk to them, treat them with respect and give them assurances and breathing room with the odd extreme get out clause. You can't expect many of these players to want to play in Div3 and take at least three years to get back to the top flight. A footballer's career is too short. There are probably a few who would stick by for maximum of a season in Div1 but without assurances and a ticking clock, it's no wonder they have left. The biggest problem is that of self interest shaded with a bit of greed. Why tie your registration to a club with great uncertainty run by a guy you don't trust when you can take control of your own destiny and get a whopping signing on fee to boot? The situation needed kid gloves and diplomacy. Green went in with a challenger tank.
-
Looks like Green has only trying the tactic of bullying players into moving to his company rather than using persuasion and compromise.
-
Don't understand why people think we'll have to pay Div 3 average wages. Even with crowds as low as 20k we'd be the second biggest supported team in the whole country.

Just thinking about how shit almost all the Scottish teams have been to us in our time of trouble. In an amazing juxtaposition, when Woolwich Arsenal were in financial trouble, Rangers bought two shares in their club to help them through a bad patch and keep them as a going concern. Maybe we need to show Scottish football how it is done and have the fans create a fund that would invest in a share issue of a 3rd division club if it saves them from going to the wall as long as they are in a position to survive for some time after with the cash injection. In my mind, we're talking about say £20k. Now that would really show them that We Are the People.

You could say that's worse. The EBT thing is at worst, an accident.

Seems to me that if we're going to do that we should be using the money in share issues to gradually own more of the club until we have more than 50% like the Bundesliga. The fans will slowly lose their money but will own the club forever...
