Do you still stand by this? Provides assists though... Where did I say you could replace him and his goals for 400k. You just made that up! What I do believe is that Lafferty has got 5 in his last 7 games - a tally Boyd is familiar with. Lafferty might not be Mr Popular on this and other forums, but clearly the fans at Ibrox are warming to him and gave him an almighty ovation yesterday - he has the ability to score goals, just like Boyd. It's taken him a long time to settle, but surely people can see that while the two are different players, Lafferty is capable of scoring plenty of goals.
  2. Like so many of our players and staff. This uncertainty is incredibly concerning. Though I would be happy enough if Weir called it a day. 40 years old for God's sake? We'll get raped in the CL.
  3. Like him or loathe him his versatility and ability are 2 of the reasons we won the league this season. Lee McCulloch proved himself a vital cog in our armoury particularly this season and he was in the side on merit. I also don't agree that Thomson is the future - I think he's been quite poor since the St Johnston humiliation, despite a month of great form up till that game. I think that Davis and Edu are the future, personally, and McCulloch has a vital role of versatility to play. That all said, at his age, he might fancy a complete change and, like so many, is worried about his and the club's future as things currently stand, so I wouldn't stand in his way should he decide to leave - he's certainly paid back his transfer fee in his performances.
  4. We both know Smith isn't a fan of supposed lightweight creative players - he prefers more robust and hardy fellows. So it was disappointing but no shock when Buffel got no chance in the early days. What WAS surprising was Smith signing, of his own volition, another lightweight style attacker in Beasley.
  5. Weir started out at Celtic.
  6. Very disappointing news really - he had a chance to be an absolute first choice next season to replace either Bougherra or Weir, and he's choosing instead the money of Liverpool. He's chosen cash over his career, because surely he knows he will not be anything like first choice - he will be something below what Kyrgiakos is there - a squad covering man. In saying all this, our uncertain future clearly isn't helping us - with a bunch of guys, including Smith, not committing themselves to Ibrox, we cannot be too harsh when someone simply decides to desert a perceived sinking ship - instead of messing about talking about his future, he's just getting on with making a decision. And if he is a Celtic fan, moving to Liverpool isn't the hardest choice for him to make. So, in ways I am disappointed with him, and feel let down. In others, strangely I can understand him wanting to leave. That all said, I do agree with Hippo that I hope his career nosedives now, but truth is he really is a very good defender who's proven himself at CL level so should be ok in England when used.
  7. Who the fuck gives a cunt, pardon my french, about what Spiers has to say? Re: the OP - quite right. It would have been good money but the sheer tim hot bed of Boston plus that dreadful article suggests we were better off keeping well out this thing.
  8. Scored a few useful goals but dreadfully inconsistent and didn't have the temperament overall for the rigours of the SPL. Conducted himself pretty well though so leaves with most fans' blessing I'd think.
  9. I knew it was unlikely but I'd wanted to hear him discuss his future after the Hannover rumour.

Oh, I don't deride his contribution to us in the past - the man has scored many many goals and only a fool would undermine that. What I don't like is his recent arrogance in the press regarding his own future, which has gone up the noses of more than just myself, trust me, plus his general all round game going back to the shitter this calendar year. I don't think we'd be poorer without him.

Some don't like it on this forum when Boyd gets criticised.

I told you to feel flattered the first time, this one wasn't interested in you. Sorry to disappoint. His form this calendar year has been dire, his attitude even worse. At least Bougherra has form on his side.
  13. Thought he had his usual performance tbh. Decently reliable but nothing special. That's been his career for us.

Ok, now we have: GK: McGregor and Alexander LB: Smith and Papac RB: Broadfoot and Whittaker CB: Weir, Bougherra, Wilson, Webster to return LM: Naismith, Beasley, Fleck, Lafferty RM: Davis, Novo, Naismith CM: McCulloch, Thomson, Davis, Edu S: Boyd, Novo, Lafferty, Miller There are a few overlaps but the squad isn't quite as threadbare as you suggest. Oh, and Buffel was never a right winger

Well, it didn't happen last summer and he'd been here for a year and a half already. He's a great player for the SPL, easily our best CM, but I think English clubs are less interested in him than you think.

tbh as much as I'd like to agree with you I'd have to slightly side with Frankie on this one. Davis plays in the SPL because while frozen out at Fulham, no one else was interested in him. Whether that's because he's not as good as we think he is, or because of other reasons is not clear - but when it became apparent at the end of his loan spell that Fulham didn't want him back, even though he wanted to stay there, we signed him. He's here because, yes, he is a Rangers fan, but no one else wanted him and Fulham froze him out.

I'm not sure why we'd want to sell in order to replace. It seems a bit pointless unless both actually want to go. Isn't it better to retain them so we don't have to take risks with 2 or 3 new replacement players who might not settle? As far as I am concerned, we should be trying to hold onto our best players, and bringing in further ones. Naturally this depends on having money - and if we don't have any then holding onto our best players becomes even more important.
  18. If he could stay injury free for 5 minutes he'd be worth holding onto as he did show in December some good form. But his body clearly cannot tolerate the rough and tumble of the SPL and he gets injured far too often. So it's probably best for him to leave. The reason he wants to stay is he's clearly quite happy in Scotland, and settled here. Nothing wrong with that, even if his football career is struggling.

The only player I'd accept leaving would be Boyd. Quite honestly we're not in a position to let anyone else go.
  20. If you watched OF games alone you'd think Boyd would never make it as a striker either... Lafferty had a decent first half, making some good runs and made a few decent dribbles, particularly that brilliant turn. He faded out in the second half, isolated, as you say, on the left wing. Why is it that Lafferty always seems to be the target for so many folks' ire?
  21. Sounds vaguely like WGS.
  22. Fair play to him, his side are one of, if not the, in form side in the SPL in the past month or so.
  23. We don't really have a great deal to lose tonight but it's Celtic and we want to beat them at tiddlywinks if we could. I suspect Walter will send out an attacking formation looking to win the game, aware we can take a bit of a chance. Wonder what the crowd will be...
  24. That the official site doesn't have anything on this, that ESPN and the BBC still aren't covering it and it barely registers in news search engines really doesn't bode especially well. All we have is Ellis speaking to Sky Sports News telling them a few details and that he hopes to do it within the month. At best it's tenuous, at worst it's almost nothing.
  25. It is odd though that the BBC nor ESPN have picked it up.
