I'd say he's worth £7,000 currently with an increase in time. Does this beg the question of Liverpool being a bigger club than Rangers? Or is it the EPL, in which case why isn't he going to Spurs who are in the CL too. £4M is a good amount, I agree - and from our point of view we've done worse deals. I guess I'm just wondering why a player of his age is so quick to take a gamble and go 'up in the world' rather than spending more time learning his trade here.
-
This would be good news for us indeed.
-
It was also the first job for him. I think for a rookie manager he did brilliantly in his first season, but it fell apart in the second one and he got the blame as that's where the buck stops.
-
That is very odd. He kept them up.
-
Edu has barely just turned 24 and shown much more consistency and ability than Thomson imho. I've been underwhelmed by Thomson and I think your point about his age is very true - he's well past the point where age was ever an excuse.
-
I'm seeing reports Wilson has rejected an astonishing wage for an 18 year old of a rise in line with first team regulars. Way more than I thought he would or should have been offered, yet he's apparently rejecting it to join Liverpool. Either he's getting astonishingly bad advice, or he absolutely hates playing for Rangers.
-
So, we're seeing Thomson linked with Middlesbrough, and according to this and other stories, so is Novo: Then you have Wilson who is almost certainly going to Liverpool: And the likes of Smith and Beasley already announcing their departures while Weir and Broadfoot sit there out of contract, as Hannover supposedly bid £1M for Lee McCulloch. Add to that the fragility of our most valuable assets Bougherra, Boyd and McGregor, not to mention the small chance that there may be some interest in Davis, and by Christ we've hardly got any players left. If all the players leave who it's rumoured will or definitely have (including the out of contracts), then we're left with: Alexander, Papac, Webster, Edu, Naismith, Lafferty, Fleck, Miller, Little, Whittaker. That's McGregor, Weir, Bougherra, Wilson, Thomson, Davis, McCulloch, Novo, Boyd, Smith, Beasley potentially all leaving. This could be a summer of more upheaval than I can remember seeing at Ibrox for a long long time.

Without investment we won't do as well in the CL as we did last season. AKA, we are going to be absolutely humiliated, and I'm not at all shocked if any player would rather swap that and the SPL for the Championship. As for Thomson, wouldn't be any skin off my nose if he left - he's consistently promised much and delivered little bar the odd month long purple patch now and again. Not always been his fault, what with injuries etc, but we seem happy to be shot of Beasley for that reason. Edu and Davis give far more in the centre, and McCulloch offers plenty.

His form was dire and I briefly wondered if I'd been wrong. But if that's the best response you can provide my post, I guess that says it all

Walker spent that entire match praising Rangers, and the one time he expresses an opinion you lot don't like he's a reptile? I agree, he was wrong to say there was contact, but it was about the only negative thing he said about us or the game. The rest of the time he was praising our football, ejaculating over Miller, praising Boyd's finish, singing Naismith's praises. For a tim, I find him pretty fair, but he's human and allowed the odd gaffe.
-
That's a very tenuous argument. That's like saying if Davis had put in the same displays and we hadn't won the league twice, he wouldn't have won POTY this season. Roughly put, I think your point is illogical, captain.

A seasoned Scotland international with plenty of Premiership experience cost too much at £2.25M? I remember when we originally offered Wigan £700 - Paul Jewell became a figure of hate because he laughed at our offer as insulting and dirisory. But ironically we did all agree the bid we'd made was rather poor. His performances previous to this season were dubious because he kept being shunted around the team. Like Whittaker he got no chance to settle in one position. Like Whittaker his displays were not terrific while that happened. But once he settled in midfield his displays became extremely important to us. As an aside I'm in the same boat as you - I wasn't a huge fan for his first season and a half, but this season he's come into his own and proved himself to me. £1M would be a steal and he's a valuable asset worth retaining imo.

Not unless you've misunderstood me In fact your post backs my comment up. I would be gagging to keep Boyd if he'd kept up his form of a small period of time last year. Just like I praise Lafferty for getting some serious form recently. The difference is I never stopped having faith in Lafferty, unlike most. And in Boyd I know exactly what he can do and what he always did. So, what say ye to that
-
I agree. I think some in this thread are being a bit unfair on him - yes, his injuries have been poor, but by all accounts he's been completely outstanding for Utd this season so he's more than worth having back. As long as he can stay fit.
-
That's like saying he's gone from being completely awful to below average. He was last calendar year yes. This year he's been back to what he used to be like. If he'd kept up the form of December, which utterly impressed me, I'd be gagging for us to hold onto him. But in 5 years, one month of smashing all round play isn't really enough for me. His goals = great. But we didn't struggle in his absence and I see no reason why we'd start to do so now.
-
Very true indeed, but it invalidates the point you made. You cannot know why Boyd's form has deteriorated - you're using conjecture as fact. 'clearly' again. What about other players who have been linked away, like Bougherra - his form remained unchanged, as have McGregor and Davis. In fact, the only player who seems to be letting 'speculation', in your book, affect him, is Boyd. Not very professional if all the others can put that sort of issue to one side, is it? My point is his form has declined for reasons known only to himself - you can make up what you think are logical reasons, so can I. Only he knows. Though in saying that it's more like his form has gone 'back to normal' than actually declined...
-
No prob. The funny thing is when he HAS used that kind of player, such as Beasley and Novo in December as a 4-4-2, it worked fantastically. But it's generally not his way to use flowing football - as you say, he's all about winning first and performances second. And 2 in a row later says we really can't complain much.
-
This being 28 year old Andy Webster who's regarded as the best defender in the SPL outwith Bougherra and Weir?
-
You're being a little bit semantic. I was not saying he dislikes Lionel Messi or Aaron Lennon, I was clearly implying he't not a fan of that kind of player for this Rangers team!
-
If that's the reason for his poor form, why hasn't Weir played poorly too? I do back all the players. I never once said I didn't. I do support Boyd just like I support everyone in the light blue. I just wouldn't cry to sleep if we sold him and I'm clearly not alone.
