  1. tbh it's just another Cuellar Boumsong really - a player who has bullshitted the fans with 'die hard Ranjurs froo an' froo' aspirations but when the chance to leave has arisen he's taken it. I really should be getting used to it by now, it happens that often. I don't even hold it against Boyd as he's by no means the first mercenary to go where the money and glitz is. But I've had a sour taste in my mouth ever since his postulating to the press in January where he seemed to consider his future as being the most important issue facing the club, and appeared to be holding us to ransom. He doesn't come across, to me, as big a die hard faithful Ranjur as perhaps we were led to believe.
  2. You're spot on, Walter Smith's future was the other reason. So Boyd's been lying out his arse?
  3. Unfairly maligned player I felt. If he'd had Weir alongside him he'd have settled way better than he did. Also didn't seem to do as bad as most made out.
  4. Not really, you apply for dispensation and an emergency loan signing. Like Man City did when Given got injured.
  5. You missed my point. I thought club stability was the sole reason for him delaying signing. Now we see it's money and nowt else.
  6. tbh the world cup is really just the most glorified footballing shop window in the world. We might all watch it thinking it's about who wins the greatest prize on earth, but it's really about players putting themselves in the limelight and winning a big money move after it's over. And managers too. So I doubt very much there will be any bargains to be had - any player who does well will instantly skyrocket in value. North Korea or Brazil regardless.
  7. Or to put another spin on it; it's one thing doing it in the SPL, quite another doing it in the Premiership. Steven Fletcher proved he's a much better player than many of us realised by scoring, what, 15 goals for a relegated side. Would Boyd get close to the same tally in the EPL? In fact, would he get close to it in the Championship?
  8. tbh winning the title last season, by the point of November wjen the shit hit the fan, was laughable.
  9. Problem is the latest news is both of his suitors have been put off by this transfer fee and are willing to wait till January and get him for £500k apparently.
  10. So Kris Boyd wasn't wanting stability at Ibrox, he simply wanted more money? Money really is the root of the majority of society's problems; I'm not so much surprised at this, more amazed that Walter has gone so extraordinarily public about it. He's literally said 'he wants more money'. btw, we will cope without Kris Boyd. Better players have left us in the past.
  11. Maybe I should have included: When I said that particular phrase. I was just meaning some seem to consider him the utter bees knees, with loyalty to him I can't quite fathom. I knew of one guy on RM who names himself after him, defending him at all costs and swearing allegiance in face of all adversity. There is plenty negative opinion about Boyd, and my point was that a very similar player in Velicka doesn't get the fair crack of the whip from the Boyd fans that I feel he deserves.
  12. So, by that logic, we shouldn't judge either Bougherra or Wilson because they only played about 20 matches each this season? I disagree - I think you can judge whenever the hell you like. There is no fast hard law as to what is the right number of games - it depends on the player himself. Look at Cuellar - we were calling him God after about 4 matches - and like or not the only dispensation was 'let's hope he keeps it up' - meaning he's capable of doing so, and in his case he did. Mendes is a player who didn't really keep up a bright start, and had a fairly average time with us in the end It varies from player to player. Forgotten men of football feel they have the world to prove - and he did exactly that when finally given his chance the season before last with, as said, after that opening goal V Falkirk, 3 in 7 when we REALLY needed it. He does have the mental strength - and I hope like Lafferty (Albeit he too has some way to go) he slowly turns round the negative opinion about him.
  13. Well we'll need the signings this summer to ensure we do not get ass-raped in it next season.
  14. Loved his comment on STV News: 'Celtic? Why would he want to go there? He wants to improve'. A true blue
  15. I'm baffled as to why you're so harsh on his goal scoring exploits when his record is 4 in 8 for us. Boyd has about 100 goals in 140 matches - be you a fan of him or not, he has scored more for us in ratio than just about anyone - so why compare others directly to him on that pedigree? As a backup player, 1 in 2 is about as good as it gets. As for fitness, well of course he couldn't last - he barely played all season so did you expect him to get up to full match sharpness in 7 games?
  16. Indeed true. Ledley's quality but out of our league. If this guy is worth 8M, then obviously I'm not understanding things but why would we be in any way attractive over a bunch of EPL clubs?

    New Top

Sadly have to agree. This one is not one of our more impressive tops imo, and the sponsorship font doesn't suit it. I don't like this top at all. I'll have to get used to it, but it's certainly going to have to be a significant grower.
  18. Me too. That's why I said 'decent'. I've seen worse, and better.
  19. Doesn't mean anything. Rob Jones' physique made him one of the most imposing defenders in the league - he even had a field day with the giant Cousin, but Cousin still scored an absolute belter from 20 yards. Novo's advantage over both is that he was small and quick - and brutal large defenders hate taking that on.
  20. Difference is that Boyd is heralded as the Greatest Ranger Ever by some, while, with a similar mandate, Velicka is laughed out of town. I would never ask him to be a first choice striker, but he's shown he can do a job when needed. And for a million squid, isn't that a reasonable return?
  21. I do agree - I don't like seeing injury wished on any player, even tims, though I admit I let my emotion get the better of me when we sold Cuellar. Let's just say I didn't wish him a happy career down there. But I do contest the 'one of our own' comment regarding Bougherra - he's someone who's currently contracted to Rangers but who it seems clear has never wanted to be here for any longer than necessary. He doesn't feel like one of our own, who are privileged to play for the club and don't take it for granted as a stepping stone to 'better things'. Even Cousin made it perfectly clear that while his ambition was the EPL, he was genuinely quite happy to stay at Rangers too - never made it out to be a grudging acceptance. Personally, I think Galatasaray is a strange choice for someone with Bougherra's rather inflated ambition, and perhaps their interest will bump him down to earth regarding how good he actually is.
  22. Ok, been out the loop recently, and truth be told too lazy an arsehole to read the whole thread. Is Ellis buying us or no'?
  23. Some harsh views on Velicka in this thread I feel. While hardly Inzaghi, when he's managed to be fit he's scored goals for us - and technically he always looked a decent player. A bit unfair to call a guy, who scored some vital finishes, anything like an Ostenstaad - in 8 appearances for us he got 4 goals. And 3 of them were during the vital run in when the pressure was on. I'm not saying he's the ghost of Van Basten, but there does appear to be a lot of, imo, negative posts about him in here. I think there are far worse squad men we could have, and HAVE had, than Andreas Velicka.
  24. I think you're confusing the user awards with the football ones. You don't need to have been here the whole season to have an opinion on Rangers and SPL football this year.
  25. I think the biggest question I'd ask about Ellis is quite why he actually supposedly wants to own us. We have monstrous debt, make little money, are in a financial hole, and are basically completely unnattractive to potential investors. Now, I could overlook this if some massive rich die hard Rangers fan came in and bought us - that would be a passionate investment which overides business sense to a degree and is all about love for the club. But this Ellis guy has no obvious connections on any level with the club - yet he wants to bail out a stricken team in a backwater league in a multimillion deal? I don't get it.
