  1. Well 3M is a good offer. We might actually get the guy for that. I'm not thrilled with the 1.7M for Verhoek though. If we get him for that then I stand corrected but I can't see it.
  2. He has never been great. He has gone through some decent spells but has rarely if ever been MOTM. I used to rate him quite highly, and I even thought last season he was overall one of our better performers, as I detailed on here, but the contract shambles followed by his form have left an indellible mark against his name. This season he has been probably worse than many of us make out, and deserves to sit on the bench. But given his wages (yes Zappa, I'm mentioning them again) he will probably still start every match. You rarely bench your highest paid players. Unless you're Man City.
  3. We know he's one of the club's best paid players. Only someone with their head in the sand would think otherwise after he rejected about 4 contract extensions before being given more or less what he wanted. I know you're trying to be awkward with your second sentence, to somehow defend Whittaker's new deal by showing I can't give the exact details. Or are you also going to say we don't know for sure McGregor is the best paid player at around £25k?
  4. Unfortunately I find it hard to give Whittaker a break given the absolute nonsense of the contract extension negotiations, then his subsequent dire form. I would say Bougherra was my least liked Ranger by a mile, but he's gone and Whittaker has sadly replaced him in that bracket for me. The whole shenanigans and quotes from his agent left a permanently sour taste in my mouth about him, and the only way I'd forget was if his form justified his revolting and innappropriate wages. Quite the opposite - he's been by far our worst player this year.
  5. Indeed. 5 years of injury problems suggests he's one who should probably give the game up. I heard the bid for Zuhasz or whatever his name is is 3M, and the bid for Verhoek 1.7m.
  6. Fixed that for you
  7. I'll put it more bluntly than Calscot. I never liked Bougherra, and he can now go fuck himself. I wish him no luck whatsoever. He's just another Boyd, although at least we got a fee this time. He can rot in Qatar.
  8. So, no more transfer stories today?
  9. Then I will respectfully agree to disagree with both of you and call you both deluded numpties
  10. Do you look only at the positive side of absolutely everything? Is there nothing you feel is your right to criticise?
  11. In 3 years+ he's shown no sign of it. I know you're Gersnet's eternal optimist, but you're deluding yourself here. He's been a complete disappointment and the original article is hilarous in the way it bigs him up. I'll be quite happy to ship him off to Blackpool, but I think he'll also struggle in the Championship.
  12. Surely we know they didn't reject offers because nothing was reported to that effect?
  13. Are we a small club? No, we're a mid level European team with a modest budget - the Europa league is our fair level and truth be told always has been. We've never been a club who seriously competed in the CL/European cup apart from literally 2 occasions (qualification for the last 16 under Eck, and one point off the final in 93). We did very well in 2008 in the Uefa Cup and that really is about our level. The CL excursions gives us finances which are most welcome, but we can't ever expect to compete with top teams even if we manage the odd outstanding result against them. Small club? No. But certainly not a team who are at home in the CL either. Mid range European side with a modest budget. Even if we're titans domestically.
  14. I kinda can. He rejected offer after offer. He seemed to know Ally rated him highly and he and his agent squeezed the club for every penny they could get. It wasn't like the first offer was 20k and that was immediately leaped upon with glee. We didn't see Shagger or Davis rejecting offers, only Whittaker. And Bougherra of course, but he blatantly wants to leave so ta ta. Point is, he forced the club to offer him a king's ransom, and Ally sanctioned it. Which is looking like a massive mistake now, as it looked to me when it happened.
  15. I feel he's really let Ally down big time. Ally had this bizarre faith in him, a strange manlove only he could understand. He hasn't let me down, I knew the contract extension was a waste of money and I questioned Ally's judgement on it. Whittaker is so far making that judgement look very very poor. And a mistake.
  16. I've not looked in the match thread so there may be a few comments on him already, but I felt the subject was worth its own thread. Whittaker has not had the best of seasons so far. He gifted Malmo their opener in the first leg, has been caught out several times in the SPL already, and generally looks a shadow of the reasonably decent player he was last year. Last night was genuinely astonishing. On top of his dire form, he acted like a child and did something so unbelievably stupid that very few players could be forgiven it. But in his case his manager went out on a total limb to retain him. Whittaker rejected so many contract extensions and pay rises, his agent publicly saying that if no transfer offer was accepted, he'd happily run down his final year. This left a sour taste in the mouth. So for this fairly average player to become one of the club's top earners remains something quite bizarre. I was completely against it at the time, and said he'd have to seriously improve his form to justify his selection and Ally's faith. Well, his form has gone to hell, and his petulance had a major hand in us losing millions from the CL. I'm no big fan of Broadfoot, but I'd much rather have him at RB for now and let Whittaker earn his place back in time. He does not deserve to be playing right now.
  17. I'd happily have him back, my post was no dig.
  18. He scored an OG V the Red Bulls at the weekend there. I was shocked when I realised it was him.
  19. A complete shambles from start to finish. It all started with the 600k bid in January, and it's been like a stupid war of attrition ever since with us refusing to go near the asking price. Then Blackburn come in, don't fuck about, and go straight to 2.8M on their second bid, leading to a further 4 bids from us, none of which meet the asking price. It's not often I say something like this, but if I was UTD, I'd refuse to sell to Rangers given how much they've mucked about.
  20. I can't see anything other than us losing on the night tbh. Couldn't predict a score.
  21. Another day, yet more targets missed out on. And add to that the loss of Bougherra and this window is going from bad to worse. We've signed: Ortiz - a player who has yet to shine in any meaningful way. Looks so far every inch a 500k winger. Admittedly being played on his weaker side isn't helping. Wallace - looks not bad and may be worth the 1.5M. Goian - far too early to judge. Bedoya - the bugger can't even play till January. Our new signings have not exactly been the overhaul the squad needed. It's good that we've tied McGregor and Davis up, not so good that we've tied Whittaker up. I think we really need some good news. And that would start with getting through tonight against the odds. Can't see it though.
  22. SSN said Celtic are the clear favourites to sign him. A truly great player but a frankly stinking attitude. If only he'd been able to curb his temperament, he could have been an England regular. He's that good.
  23. It would appear UTD have gone from being desperate to sell him to us for 2M, to desperate to avoid selling to us at any price.
  24. I'm not sure I buy this. We've signed plenty of players in the recent past without a stupid plan like this, why suddenly use it for one player?
  25. It's ok but no more. Reminds me of the dodgy collar from a few seasons back.
