  1. I heard we'd put in a fifth bid which STILL didn't match Blackburn. But even if we offered 2.75M, that still isn't enough now. And curiously enough, I am getting the impression that UTD ONLY want to sell to us. Don't ask me why, but given all the mind games going on have made me think they really want us to stump up enough cash for him. Or maybe that was before Blackburn offered 2.8M. That said, I get a further impression that the player doesn't want to move to England. I would disagree with that. He'd have signed if we'd offered the asking price. It's always been about money and getting what they wanted. Selling clubs hold the power, not buying ones.
  2. It didn't stop him sending Weiss up here in the first place. Now it's an issue. Makes no sense.
  3. Rumour has it that his religion and beliefs will no longer matter to us anyway given he's apparently off to Qatar for 3M. I'm sure someone else can address your post more relevantly as well
  4. Sooner this whole thing is resolved one way or the other the better.
  5. Not seen a thread dedicated to our new Romanian stopper :dg: so thought I'd start one. A 30 year old defender with top flight Serie A experience plus Romanian premier league too, he's got 37 caps for his country in which he's managed a very impressive 5 goals. His debut was of course St Johnstone, and I'd heard he was a monster in the air, but lacking culture on the deck. I'd say his display contradicted that entirely. He was actually comfortable with the ball at his feet, keeping the passes simple and effective, apart from one nice lob which the Saints defender missed and which ended up almost being a direct assist. In the air was more hit and miss - he didn't leap for his near goal, but still got to it ahead of the defence. But was beaten all hands up by the rather short Murray Davidson in the air by letting the midfielder get ball side of him. Other than that he was pretty quiet and will have more taxing days ahead where we'll be able to judge more accurately.
  6. How stupid are Smith and Whyte? If Blackburn have offered 2.8M, then that's the player's value. It was 2M, but we were too late. How we expect to get him by offering less than our rivals is beyond me.
  7. Regards the OP, it doesn't actually explain why we should have faith in Ally, it's just asking us to have it. It's one person's perfectly valid opinion that Ally's credentials are that he learned from Walter, will make his own errors to start with, and then will be a magnificent manager. I'd call that conjecture. He could go the way of Lennon, a sticky start before becoming, let's be honest, a very good manager who made some decent signings. Hence Celtic are favourite this term. Or he could go the way of Mowbray and PLG - a poor start which only got worse. Time will tell. There is no evidence to prove either case, we can do nothing else besides support him and hope he gets it right.
  8. It's true that we wouldn't offer more than £400k. Ally said that. But I find it hard to believe that he'd have joined us over Cardiff had we offered the required amount given they could offer him a greater wage than we can. Kenny Miller never struck me as an honourable player who put football first. tbf very few players do. And that line about his family? If they're settled in Scotland he will STILL be away from them a lot. I think Gav is correct about this excuse now tbh.
  9. I was pleased because it was the old Beattie I envisaged, the one on the fringes of England and who did great things in the Premier League. But the one who came to us was a pale shadow of this, and it was bloody obvious, to me at least, that he was pretty past it. And I'm not in the wrong job, he is well, now anyway.
  10. This was after about 3 games and I realised categorically he was a dud. Even after 5 games many fans were still saying he needed time. Sometimes it's pretty obvious when a player just isn't cutting it.
  11. I'm looking forward to this.
  12. I remember some of the laughable comments I read on here last season that he just needed matches to hit form. A shame really, I was really pleased when we signed him, thought he'd be useful. His 'moment' came setting up Miller at Easter Road. Otherwise he was arguably Walter Smith's worst signing during his second spell.
  13. He was also informed, through the press quotes from Smith, that he'd have to take a huge pay cut to join us. I'm sure that appealed greatly.
  14. Bottom line is Cardiff almost certainly gave him a higher wage than we could afford. For someone who was desperate to return to us, he sure changed his tune quickly when they came in for him. He doesn't have any loyalty to anyone, but it's a rare thing to see a footballer who does.
  15. If I'm not mistaken, world cup 2014's qualifying draw is tomorrow, but I have no idea what channel it might be on, or what time. Can anyone shed light?
  16. They started asking for donations before they ever became a premium hosted site iirc. I didn't like it and made my feelings pretty clear at the time. I still say no matter what, those who are in a position of responsibility are also those who should foot the bill for the site, whatever site it is, and I don't like members being asked to donate. Do FF ask members to donate in any way?

All I can say is - you want Frankie to take over at Ibrox?
  18. Had a dodgy preseason and hasn't been up to speed in the league or CL either. What do we attribute this to, for our player of the season last year? My theory is he played most last year as a right winger with freedom to burst into the box. This season he seems to be playing a striker who comes deep into midfield half the time. I don't know if this new position suits him like last year's seemed to. Thoughts?

Honestly? I've hinted at it already - bring in Wilkins as assistant manager and put Durrant back to the reserves or whatever he was and McDowall back to first team coach. That's one solution. Another is make substitutions rather than standing looking aimlessly. Wylde may well have made a difference, and Healy could have been given a shout. A third idea is not to start with alien formations in Europe that the team is unfamiliar with. 3-5-2 when we've never played it before in a vital match was dangerous. A fourth is to completely drop Davie Weir so we have pace at the back. I hate to break it to you, but us not winning the league isn't acceptable. I know winning every year isn't going to happen, but there's not one fan or player or manager associated with the club who is ever happy for us to be second.
  20. Our midfield is actually atrocious at the moment. We badly need some good reinforcements in there. I haven't seen this guy play but if he's good then we need to pay the hard cash.
  21. They only have 3 main strikers I can think of - Shirley, Hooper, and Stokes. Even we have more than that.
  22. This forum has the correct attitude tbh. A forum should be paid for by the staff and the staff alone. I hated RM when they started going cap in hand to the members, which imho is unnacceptable for a forum to do. And I was admin at the time and happy to contribute, but it left a sour taste when they became obsessed with donations from non-staff.

    I will, Patience lad
  24. Looks like UTD are sticking to their guns and won't accept a penny less than 2M for him.

It has 2 crucial contributions. It gives a great feelgood factor to everyone to have us up against Barcelona as well as St Mirren. The second is the money - it's bloody vital in this economic climate.
