The madness and genius of crowds: last night versus Motherwell
ian1964 replied to bmck's topic in Rangers Chat
Great read Barry. WATP. -
Just watching CNN over here and they have just ran a good / bad story, how rangers are chasing an historic quadruple, and damming the SPL for the part they are playing in this, also ran the interview with George Burley slating them.GREAT EXPOSURE FOR THE SPL !!!!!

Walter is seething about this whole scenario,I actually think this is going to drive the team on to win the lot as i'm sure Walter will be using it as motivation for the players

"Everyone in Scotland has made it quite clear they won't do anything for Rangers. We just have to do the best we can. "They all made it perfectly clear there is no willingness on anybody's part to give us anything. The extension to the league they've agreed on is purely because it's physically impossible to fit the games in so they weren't doing anybody a favour by extending the season. They just had to do it. "There has been no willingness at all to help Rangers, so they're not going to help us now, are they? "If there was going to be an opportunity to help they could have done it by now. It's been a few days since we reached the Final. "The Russian league made their intentions quite clear from the start. In Scotland we've had a couple of days, we've not heard from anybody, so we play. "I think the SPL could have helped us. I think they could help any Scottish team in this situation." Reading Walter's quote above drives home to this bear how true that is,'' No-one likes us''. Trying to read it without blue tinted specs here, we have a man / manager who is well respected throughout the football world, well certainly UK,who is never anything but honest, fair and can take defeat and criticism with dignity, telling IMO the honest truth about the feelings of Scotland and the other teams in the SPL towards Rangers FC. It really makes me sick to the bottom of my stomach how corrupt and bias everyone is towards us,not sour grapes by the way. The only way we can stick two fingers up at every one is to do the unthinkable QUADRUPLE,I so dearly want this to happen for that reason alone,so we can say we did this despite everybody trying their best to make sure we don't win anything. I just hope Rangers FC remember this in future and when they are asked to help out with the moving of fixtures or postponements the say SHOVE IT RIGHT UP YOUR ARSES. Remember...........WATP.

DA would never have came near Rangers FC unless he was going to receive big money to spend.Walter came back in to try and help Rangers FC !!!

'How Will Artur Top This Stunt?' May 4 2008 John Hillcoat I WENT to primary school with a daft wee guy who would do anything for attention. And I mean anything. I remember David Harvey producing an onion in class one day and munching it like it was an apple. Pencils up his nose until his nostrils streamed blood, head shaved to the wood - you name it Davie would do anything to grab the limelight. The shock value of his attention seeking was jaw dropping and we'd all wait with bated breath each time there was an important visitor or a formal school assembly. But it wasn't until later in life you realised you were actually laughing at him, not with him. I had never met anyone since Davie with such a brass neck or need for attention. Until last Sunday. The Old Firm showdown was totally gripping and looked great on TV with the sun shining and both teams going at it hammer and tongs. But Celtic keeper Artur Boruc spoiled it with his stupid attention-seeking antics after the final whistle. He has rightly been panned for showing off his "God Bless the Pope" T-shirt and antagonising the Rangers fans. Boruc's childish behaviour was designed to steal the limelight - a bit like wee Davie's antics back at school. It's a shame he couldn't let it rest after doing his bit to help Hoops to a crucial 3-2 win. I wonder if Boruc's nose is out of joint because of all the press opposite number Allan McGregor has been getting recently. And Ibrox stand-in keeper Neil Alexander has deserved all the praise that has been heaped on him following his heroics in Italy on Thursday. Alexander stood up strong in the semi-final penalty shootout with Fiorentina and brilliantly got a hand to the spot-kick effort by Fabio Liverani to turn the tide in Gers' favour. I've nothing but respect for the former Ipswich keeper who sat patiently on the sidelines as McGregor took the plaudits for his performances. Neil grabbed his chance after an injury to Big Al last month against Celtic and got on with the job without fuss. Taking a starring role in a European semi is reward in itself for Neil - and he could yet run out in the UEFA Cup Final in Manchester if Mac doesn't make it back in time. But the word from the Ibrox camp is that Allan might well be fit, relegating Alexander to the sidelines again. If that happens I'm sure Neil will show a level of dignity that would seem lost on Boruc. The Pole's bizarre behaviour at Parkhead leaves me wondering where this guy would draw the line. Clearly Artur loves a bit of controversy so just how is he planning to top this latest stunt? There has been a clear sign of escalation from simply crossing himself to parading a Champions flag in front of the Ibrox punters last season. Maybe Boruc can take some inspiration from Brazil superstar Ronaldo's latest headline grabbing, er, cock up. The AC Milan legend fancied a bit of fun but discovered his three beautiful new "lady" friends came better equipped than he expected. On second thoughts I don't think even Boruc could get any bright ideas from that scenario.

Furious Motherwell boss blasts referee By Ron Scott YET ANOTHER goal in the title race was shrouded in controversy yesterday. Celtic opened up an eight-point lead over Rangers with a narrow win at Fir Park and Motherwell manager Mark McGhee left no one in any doubt at his displeasure with referee Steve Conroy. “It was a poor decision by the ref to award Celtic a corner from which Samaras scored the winner. It was clearly a goal-kick,” insisted McGhee. “I was adamant it wasn’t a corner at the time and, having seen it again on TV, I now know for certain it wasn’t a corner. “Awarding a corner instead of a goal-kick may not appear a major decision, but it followed similar decisions. In the end, it undermines what we are trying to do at Fir Park.” Not complaining Naturally, Celtic manager Gordon Strachan wasn’t complaining. He was quick to point out, “I’m still furious about Inverness’s winner against us and the penalty they were awarded back in December when we lost 3-2! “Given the condition of the pitch, it had to be common-sense football here. “In other games we’ll try to play better football, but we couldn’t adopt that attitude out there. “Motherwell adapted to the conditions better than us, as you would expect with their knowledge of the pitch. “I was just pleased to have quality players on the bench, such as Georgios Samaras, Scott Brown and Mark Wilson to bring on.” Rangers, who now have four games in hand, start playing catch-up this afternoon at Easter Road.

By Ron Scott and Danny Stewart THE Russian Football Federation has shown the SPL how to reward member clubs for reaching a European Final. Zenit St Petersburg will not now play another game until they meet Rangers in the UEFA Cup Final at the City of Manchester Stadium on May 14. By comparison, Rangers have been forced to play three League games against Hibs (away today), Motherwell (at home on Wednesday) and Dundee United (at home next Saturday) before they can turn their thoughts to the club’s biggest game in 36 years. Announced The Russian authorities announced yesterday they have cancelled Zenit’s next three games against CSKA Moscow (a), Lokomotiv Moscow (h) and Luch-Energiya Vladivostok (a). Cancelling the Vladivostok game is certainly music to coach Dick Advocaat’s ears. It’s Zenit’s furthest away game of the season, entailing a nine-hour flight and six time-changes and was due to be played four days before the Final. But, with their games now having been cancelled, Zenit have been afforded a 12-day rest. No wonder Advocaat is delighted. “It is a strange situation for Rangers having to play three games in seven days before the final,” said their former boss. “Things are much different here. The authorities go out of their way to help teams who are successful in Europe.” Spy The cancellation of Zenit’s games means Advocaat will almost certainly return to Ibrox to spy on his old team either on Wednesday or Saturday. Meanwhile, Ally McCoist has hit back at Italian criticism of Rangers. Angered by his side’s UEFA Cup defeat on Thursday, Fiorentina President Andrea della Valle accused the Light Blues of “awful” football. Club coach Cesare Prandelli chipped in by claiming that Rangers are a team that “just do not want to play”. But Walter Smith’s assistant has defended both his team and the tactics used in the UEFA Cup. “We went to a country where they are the best in the world at defending and beat them at their own game,” he said. “When the Italians do it, it is fantastic and wonderful. But, when we do the same thing, it is ‘anti-football’. Compliment “People are criticising us just now and that is fine. It goes with the territory. “Personally, I take it as a compliment because they obviously have got a problem if they are saying it. “Anyone with any intelligence at all would look deeper into the situation. They would see that what we are doing is playing to our strengths.” And McCoist — who also praised several of the Fiorentina camp for clapping Rangers off the pitch on Thursday — pledged no amount of criticism will stop Rangers adopting a similar approach in the UEFA Cup Final in 10 days’ time. “We have watched them and they are the kind of team that LIKE to be attacked,” he admitted. “They have players up front with real pace, guys who are absolute lightning. “They want you to have a go so they can batter you, as they did to Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. “We will not give them that worry, I can assure you!”

Things are getting tough for our team, however they must surely get a huge lift from reaching the UEFA cup final, big enough to see us power on for the rest of the season, and when a team is winning you don't get tired, tiredness only kicks in when you start losing, which IMO we are not going to do.We are Rangers.WATP.

Zenit St Petersburg will not play another game until the Uefa Cup final after the Russian Football Federation cleared their fixtures. And Rangers chief executive Martin Bain has complained that the Scottish Premier League has not given similar help to Zenit's opponents on 14 May. "The SPL should take a long hard look at what other federations do, given the enormity of the situation," he said. "And what reaching a European final has done for the coefficient and country." Zenit were due to play Lokomotiv Moscow at home on 7 May and Luch Energia in the Russian Far-eastern city of Vladivostok on 11 May. But the national association says Dick Advocaat's side can play those in June. Rangers, in contrast, now face playing eight games in 21 days. They will host Dundee United at home four days before facing Zenit. The Scottish season has been badly hit by match postponements this season. And, although the SPL has delayed the end of the season by four days, Rangers are angry that they are still being required to play four games within eight days.
