Season ticket income is hugely important to the club so of course inferring tens of thousands of people won't renew could affect the decision-making from those who make them. However it is also a very dangerous ploy which could makes things worse instead of better. Remove 20,000 x £500 from our income then the savings have to come from elsewhere as SDM or Lloyds won't absorb the loss. Given we've still to see anyone step forward and say they will underwrite any debt we have in order to buy the club then that means we'd be in serious trouble. That is probably why fans who are otherwise concerned and frustrated about certain issues wouldn't go as far as removing their financial commitment to the club.

I'd have thought it makes perfect business sense to re-sign Boyd for the increased wage he wants. The lad is still young, in the best form of his life and doesn't suffer from many injuries (touch wood) so would retain a high transfer value if the club did require to sell players in the summer or beyond. Selling him now for £1.5million isn't the kind of sum that will suddenly scare the wolves away. And it certainly won't improve our chances of retaining the league title.

I don't anyone denies an apathy exists in our support which seems extremely difficult to overcome when we want invoke changes. Even so, one can see that amongst shareholders at AGMs there does exist a reasonable number of active fans interested in the kind of 'political' off the field issues we often read about online. The Donald Muir issue also showed that such strong feeling isn't restricted to the internet and supporters can make their voice heard (even if that issue was always a losing one). Unfortunately, there appear to be no obvious solutions for tapping into this offline percentage of fans to increase awareness of the club's future with regard to other issues which we feel should be changes. Moreover, the existing shareholding of SDM/Lloyds remains an ever bigger obstacle to enforce that change. It's not a case of stamping our feet and getting what we want.

Problem is his contract runs out in May so any offer right now would be minimal...

I think the Trust got on reasonably well with the club in the past but obviously not with a great deal of success when it comes to genuine achievements unfortunately. That relationship doesn't seem to be quite as strong now (achievements or not) but I'm reasonably happy someone is trying to pressurise the club into keeping Boyd.
-
I don't think the Trust have a cosy relationship with the Rangers board. They called for Muir not to be re-elected and have criticised the new chairman (albeit on unofficial forums). As others have suggested sitting on the fence (publicly at least) is probably not doing them any favours generally. The one problem I do have is that if the Trust did somehow end up as part of a consortium buying the club then they could no more guarantee the future of Boyd than the present administration.

Like I say, they didn't mention boycotts though.
-
And on that bombshell, the Daily Express is reporting that Boyd has been offered a 'king's ransom' to stay at the club.

Can we stop the off-topic stuff please. People are entitled to different opinions on here so if you disagree, challenge them. By the same token if people don't take an honest position in debates admin will challenge them.

I don't think Edgar mentioned season ticket boycotts to be fair... Yes, he rightly indicated some fans would consider their position in that regard but didn't suggest anything would be organised by anyone either. I'm also unsure why their alleged intentions to buy the club is directly related or contradictory to this matter.

I don't disagree but worth taking part hopefully. Have also emailed the guy asking for them to widen the debate.

Urge everyone to take part in this...

Isn't Miller free for the Scottish Cup game this weekend but then banned again for the league game next Saturday? McCulloch will also be suspended for that SPL match.

Several teams are interested but the lad is happy at Ibrox and doesn't want to move. Obviously though he wants (and deserves) a better contract in line with what Miller and Lafferty receive so we can only hope that can be agreed in a timely fashion. Even so, we'll be unable to match the more attractive packages other teams can from England and beyond so we can only hope Boyd's commitment to the club is more than a financial one. Unfortunately his agent's is purely financial and he'll fancy a nice pay day by moving his client on over the next 6 months. While we're on the subject, a few words on Boyd breaking Larsson's scoring record. Firstly, I don't think anyone can realistically compare the two players as they are markedly different in style. Boyd has always been more of a poacher while Larsson did a bit more in terms of linking the play and bringing a threat right across the last third of the pitch. In that respect, Larsson's SPL goal tally is even more impressive than the number of goals itself. The lad's contribution at international level and his cameos at Barca and Man Utd show his quality so anyone trying to suggest Boyd is a better player is throwing a red herring. However, over the last year or so, Boyd really has improved a fair bit. Leaner, stronger and a more rounded player; his overall game has matured to a level that compliments his goals more effectively. It's fair to say (like Larsson) he's better with a partner who works well with him and his partnership with Miller has shown that pretty well this season especially. This improvement has been shown with him starting to appear/start in games he may have not been trusted in previously. Therefore, we can hope his contribution in such matches is one that truly allows his effectiveness at higher levels to be judged more fairly than his harshest critics do as it stands. What is for sure, he was a true bargain when we signed him for Killie and many teams could find themselves a similar bargain if they signed him now as I certainly feel he could make the step up from Rangers and the SPL to a club who are competing in a more testing environment. I, for one, desperately want him to stay (his goals are invaluable no matter who they come against) but I'd also love to see him progress his career at a higher level so we can all see just how good a player he really is.

Can't see Boyd moving to Boro who are unlikely to be promoted any time soon....

Like you, I'd prefer we kept everyone but if we're realistic then that is doubtful. It could be argued that considering the length injuries to the likes of Thomson, Edu and Mendes we have benifitted from having the surplus players but if it comes to paying for a new wage for Boyd and keeping one of Mendes, McCulloch or Thomson; then I'd rather we sold.
-
No surprise there... Thank goodness I don't get Snyde through here...
-
I'd prefer we didn't lose any players but neither can we afford to have five highly paid central midfielders (Davis, Mendes, McCulloch, Edu and Thomson). 5 into 2 doesn't go and as much as I want to retain a strong squad, if we're to lose anyone then Mendes could be a player we could afford to let go (if Thomson and Edu can prove their fitness over the next month).

http://www.imscouting.com/global-news-article/Sporting-Lisbon-agree-15m-deal-for-Rangers-midfielder-Pedro-Mendes/4733/ Usual media rumour from an unusual source: http://www.imscouting.com/about-us/ I'd guess we'll be tempted at such a fee for an aging player perhaps unlikely to play all that often when everyone is fully fit.

Free kicks given: Celtic 21 : 5 Rangers Definitely a Mason then...

Free kicks given: Celtic 21 : 5 Rangers Did they discuss that?

Bizarre. At the time I thought the goal should have stood but replays (with the aid of slo-mo and without the aid of alcohol) clearly show McGregor was fouled. The one point I would make is that Conroy permitted several similar challenges throughout the first half especially when Caldwell fouled Boyd time after time. As such, he wasn't very consistent with the Fortune decision.

Yep, clear foul...
