Congratulations to the Queen

Some will say travelling all over the world to the very best hospitality all in the glare of the public eye is easy.

I'd say spending over 12 hours a day in tedious public engagements and the associated stress of being unable to lead your life freely goes beyond the call of duty.

Not to mention the amazing social and charity initiatives many of the Royal family are involved in. As well as their service in the forces.

Do they have a more difficult life than you or I? Probably not but I'd certainly say they work hard.

I don't think they do work hard. I think they might do their bit for the country but so does every other individual who pays their taxes.

Let's not start with the Royal Family being in the armed forces. They get pulled out of action if there's a sniff of danger unlike the others who stay out there no matter what. Saying that, it was their choice just like it was the choice of the members of TRF who signed up.

I raise money for charity and I donate money to charity every month.

I'm sure they can cope with being in the public eye given the lifestyle they lead when out of it.

The best thing I read (can't remember where) was from a guy having a go about the comments about how hard she works. He compared it to his granda who was down the pits at 12 and his gran who also worked well into her 70's. He said now that was real hard work and graft, not the luxury these 'people born into it' have.

Wish I could find the quote but know when reading I agreed with every word.

Work? Pffft, life of luxury more like.

My Grandad is now 85 and did work down the pit as well as spending done time in the army.

He worked hard and, according to my Gran, he played hard. However he still respects the work the Queen has done over her lifetime and appreciates while their lifestyles may be markedly different (and their working conditions) that she has performed her duty (which she can't hide from) as well as any job he has done.

On Sunday he and my Gran both insisted they'd much rather have their lives than that of any Royal servant.

I'll just agree to disagree. Nothing that anyone has or will write on this thread will change my opinion of anything to do with the royals. IMO and mine own only maybe, they are a waste of time and I couldnt not care one jot if they existed or not. My life is certainly not influenced by theirs....oh, sorry, free bank holiday!

The Royals might not be down mines, but that is to suggest that anyone who isn't down a mine isn't a hard worker. Which appears a rather insulting generalisation if you ask me.

Away ye go. He wasn't insulting anyone he was merely pointing out that a hard worker is someone who doesn't travel the world being treated to the best hospitality there is.

My grandad did the same Frankie, never knew his views on the royals an he never spoke of his time during the war. My dad an majority of uncles and many cousins are or were in the services. They have their views, I have mine. It's really as simple as that. I don't mock them for all the GSTQ rubbish but don't remember many of them saying how hard she works. IMO many go along with it because of their job, serving their country. I also know many who never had an interest in anything royal until they joined up then all of a sudden they change.

I just get it and never will.

Where did I say that?

I said I don't think what she does is hard work. I'll stand by that.

12 hours doing public funtions or whatever, touring abroad etc, treated like ....er.....royalty!!

Don't forget about the 3 or 4 hours she was on a boat waving at folk. Tough going!

Ah but she maybe stood up on that occasion too instead of sitting down waving as she usually does ;)

The hypocrosay of republicans and anti Royalists is amazing , they dont like the Royal family because ........... just because , then you get into a whole raft of pathetic socialistic reasons , they were born with a silver spoon , they are privelleged blah blah blah , get over it life aint fair , you only need look at the turnout all over the country and beyond to see the respect and love that her Majesty is held in by millions all over this small planet .

As someone who has travelled all over the world whilst in the merchant navy one of the first things people mention when you talk to them is the Royal family , you only miss something when its gone and tradition is something that should never be taken lightly , christ in the position we find ourselves in as aclub surely the irony isnt missed by some.
