Ally McCoist confirms signing talks with Nicky Clark

That's simply to make the songs scan. It's UNofficial. I'll accept it when people say 'London Arsenal.'

But you accept it is used. It really isn't a big deal. Glasgow Rangers, Rangers FC, the Rangers, just Rangers, it doesn't bother me at all.

I've not seen him play at all but he clearly knows where the goal is.

As long as he mobile enough and can work the channels, then those qualities should be useful. I'd say he's worth the risk.

Too right, can't be doing with another Boyd, eh?

We all know the club's official name in the correct documents, UEFA also refers to us as Rangers FC. The world beyond Britain knows a few Rangers though and while football fans may recognize us, others don't. Texas Rangers, New York Rangers, you name them. It is pretty common over here in Germany to add certain "signatures" to teamnames, e.g. FC Bayern, FC Arsenal, FC Barcelona and the like. As they cannot say FC Rangers (as it would sound ridiculous) they use the "British tradition" of the city's name instead, much like Manchester United / City. And rest assured, many people have heard the name Glasgow Rangers and know what is meant by it.

Quite so - and, indeed, Rangers are frequently referred to on the Continent simply as "Glasgow" - as far as they are concerned, there's only one team in Glasgow. :)

We all refer to Bayern Munich, but their real name is just FC Bayern. We all refer to AC Milan, but AC just means "Football Club". We all refer to Inter Milan, but their real name is just Internazionale.

There are other examples.

People calling us "Glasgow Rangers" really isn't a big issue for me.

Sorry to harp on it, dB but why does 'FC Rangers' sound any more ridiculous than 'FC Arsenal'? Celtic (sorry to swear there) are usually referred to as simply Celtic, so we should not be given an extra soubriquet!

They say "FC Arsenal" when not saying "Arsenal London", much like they do with Chelsea. While Rangers FC (and Arsenal FC, or rather Arsenal) is the British version, in Germany either FC Arsenal/Chelsea or the London add-ons are used. When it comes to us or the Scum, they either use Glasgow Rangers / Celtic Glasgow, or Rangers and Celtic. Traditionally no "FCs" whatsoever for either team and hence it wouldn't make any sense for Germans if they'd use FC Rangers.

BTW, FC in German stands for "Fuball Club" (football club) and the name always comes after that. Hence you'll see FC Schalke, FC Bayern, 1. FC Köln/Cologne et al. They adapted that for most British teams (especially those who have not much more in their name than a town and a "FC", e.g. FC Barnsley, FC Wimbledon, FC Blackpool et all) and if they have settled the place where the team belongs to (e.g. London) in a commentary or preview, the go to the FC + "team name" variety (e.g. FC Chelsea). Some are, much like we, better known and hence are the odd-club out. Thus you will hardly ever hear someone speak about FC Chelsea London. It is either FC or London, but not both.
