Jim McColl insists there will be no deal to keep Craig Mather

Recommended Posts

According to the report published by the SFA on Rangers bringing the game into disrepute.

Paul Murray was more than aware what Craig Whyte was, as were most of the board Martin Bain in particular. No one from that time should ever be allowed back on the Rangers board.

I'm not his biggest fan but to be fair to Paul Murray both he and Alistair Johnston did warn us about Craig Whyte. I think in the last few years of the Sir David Murray reign (even before the bank took over) there was no forward thinking or drive from anyone on that board, Paul Murray included. They were coasting along and hoping for Champions League qualification just so we could turn a profit. That's just not good enough IMO.

Does the same report not go into detail about how Martin Bain, Paul Murray & AJ tried to convince David Murray not to sell to Whyte? I thought it was their knowledge about Whyte which prompted them to try to offer SDM an alternative at the last minute when he refused to listen?

It does, but ultimately they let Whyte in as did SDM. They failed the shareholders of the oldco. They must've known full well what was going to happen to Rangers

Why not report Whyte?

How did they miss the 7 year ban?

They were supposed to do a forensic investigation into him - They could've killed the deal or at the very least make it difficult to go through

Pretty much, some like to give Paul Murray credit for reducing the debt but frankly Lloyds forcing the issue was the cause.

SDM had 80%+ of the shareholding......the other shareholders were completely powerless to block any sale, as were the board. All they could do was voice their concerns & try to persuade SDM not to sell.

Years before SDM left.

2 years before he stepped down as Chairman again, but let's be honest here, the real damage was done to the club many years before Paul Murray was appointed to the board in 2007. Many years before.

Seems to me that had Dave King not been tied up with SARS then he could have been the one taking over instead of Whyte - if he was confident on the HMRC case.

We seem to have been shafted by two incompetent and vindictive tax bodies at the same time.

Why they categorically said not to sell to whyte. Christ murray had to cobble togethervan alternative to try and stop it he was so desperate.
